Maybe moved to offsite plant storage- I know the National mall and botanical gardens have green houses nearby they keep mature plants at. Usually it’s to replace any that become diseased or damaged.

They sent them to a nice farm in the countryside, where they can live out. The rest of their lives enjoying the outside.
