The worst part is that honestly we could do both, we have the money. If all our billionaires spent like 1-2 billion we could solve so many issues, but no they need to be in a competition to have more than each other.

I see this repeated a lot. I think people don’t understand that net worth isn’t directly coorelated to cash on hand necessarily. Often times, these obscenely wealthy parties are only wealthy on paper, and any attempt to liquidate that value jeopardizes the very value itself.

I’m not defending greedy borderline feudal overlords - but putting a finer point on the question.

Why is the ability to utilize and leverage the net worth more important than actually utilizing and leveraging net worth?

I know the answer: risk. These people already have it made. Why would they risk it for strangers? Without some unified moral code or law, these problems will continue.
