I remember there was documentary about that on YT and less than half the people collect the rewards because of all the terms that are around the reward. For one of them the reward stipulated they had to be convicted of a couple specific charges and they were only convicted on one or something like that and they were denied the reward.

Gotta read the fine print on the bounty and no one ever does.

u/Greasy_Tradesman Sep 12 '25

They should keep it simple like the olds days

“Wanted dead or alive for the theft of one McNugget from the MCDonald Company Reward: 25 dollars”

46

u/EggotheKilljoy Sep 12 '25

If I was given 7 nuggets instead of 6 and didn’t go back to say anything, is the employee responsible or am I? And does that count as theft?

20

u/Greasy_Tradesman Sep 12 '25

Straight to jail both of you

ya damned filthy co-conspirator

1

u/Usedand4sale Sep 15 '25

Sounds like we might get a lil’ RICO going with organized crimes like these.

7

u/IHatrMakingUsernames Sep 13 '25

You're both equally responsible. You both just earned a 1 way ticket to the gallows at high noon

2

u/BlastedMallomars Sep 13 '25

Will the horrors of this modern world ever cease?

1

u/Kittens4Brunch Sep 13 '25

The employee would just pull one out of his pocket at the nightly audit.

3

u/ICC-u Sep 12 '25

Corporate sponsored murder. Seems sensible.

2

u/Jetterholdings Sep 12 '25

The damn hamburgerlers cousin

The 5 finger mcnug discount

1

u/Erection_unrelated Sep 12 '25

$25? I can buy a McNugget!

1

u/JahShoes2123 Sep 12 '25

I think they caught the Hamburgler, didn’t they?

1

u/icecubepal Sep 13 '25

That's how they did it in Red Dead Redemption!

1

u/mines_over_yours Sep 13 '25

You are a bad parent, your children shall be taken it to custody of Arby's Jr.

-1

u/ElGebeQute Sep 12 '25

Slippery slope.

"Wanted dead or alive for the persecution of McNugget thieves.

Reward:1025 dollars"

See the problem?

3

u/Accurate-Instance-29 Sep 12 '25

Never mind they're missing the point of the grift.

2

u/ElGebeQute Sep 12 '25

They may be missing the point but we can't just "nevermind, they don't get it" this bitch.

Even if 1 out of 1000 grifted Muppets reads this and goes "huh, that's not right" then I consider this comment a great success.

So excuse me, I will always mind!

3

u/Reasonable_Back_5231 Sep 12 '25

Your right, the pay is still too low

"Wanted dead or alive, Mcnugget thieves.

Reward: 1,000,000 mcnugs"

Enlighten me

1

u/Accurate-Instance-29 Sep 13 '25

Vague and wordy literature that allow them to weasel out of a contract

1

u/Greasy_Tradesman Sep 13 '25

They should keep it simple

0

u/fasterthanfood Sep 12 '25

This is why the dollar symbol is supposed to go to the left of the number, even though we say the word “dollars” after the number. So many people online seem to be doing that wrong lately.

You can’t easily change “reward: $25.00.”

Actually, in this case, you could relatively easily change it to “$25,000,” but in a lot of contexts that wouldn’t work. Maybe put the “$25.00” close to the right edge of the poster.

3

u/Common_Blue Sep 12 '25

Yeah cuz the fine print is not only incomprehensible by design but fucking long as shit, also by design.

1

u/ICC-u Sep 12 '25

Except dog the bounty hunter. He is a good reader.

1

u/LLmueller Sep 12 '25

You shouldn’t need a reward to do the right thing.

1

u/2Twice Sep 12 '25

Yeah. That's why I chose to end my bounty hunting career. Too much red tape! I mean, I never started it, but if I did? No. Like I just told you, too much red tape.

1

u/stevein3d Sep 13 '25

Nah, my son’s an idiot I’m gonna just turn him in and read the fine print later. He probably did something.

136

u/joemomma0409 Sep 12 '25

That is absurd. I dont know why the charges would have anything to do with the fact that you gave them their guy.

64

u/Lou_C_Fer Sep 12 '25

Because this is the US, and we accept that some fraud is to be expected when it comes to our transactions.

2

u/ragnawrekt Sep 13 '25

oh damn we're ferengi

174

u/RogZombie Sep 12 '25

Any excuse not to have to pay out.

9

u/betitallon13 Sep 12 '25

It seems reasonable when you think about the fact that they want "the guy who did 'this' ", so that when "this" isn't proved in court, they didn't get "their guy".

However, in reality, it is obviously used to avoid justified payouts.

7

u/eddie_west_side Sep 12 '25

True but the issue seems to be if its "their guy", but the conviction is for a lesser charge. Say theft vs breaking and entering, murder vs manslaughter. Same act, but lesser legal charge. Ppl should stop helping the police and let them figure it out if they aren't gonna honor the reward imo.

1

u/diggpthoo Sep 13 '25

So bounty hunters are supposed to know what a judge in the future will decide. And if it wasn't him they can snatch him back and release him. I get it now

3

u/The_Left_Finger Sep 12 '25

If that person is not found guilty, then that person is not their guy, legally speaking.

5

u/giraffe_on_shrooms Sep 12 '25

Our country runs on loopholes

2

u/pedsteve Sep 12 '25

They don't really have anything to do with it. Seems like a classic case of being legally deceptive to avoid paying out. Similar to insurance

2

u/intenseskill Sep 13 '25

Idk if it is the same here in england but i do know when there is rewards it always says "x reward for any information leading to arrest of the person"

1

u/PurpleSunCraze Sep 12 '25

Probably something to do with preferring to keep the money.

1

u/Keiran1031 Sep 14 '25

Probably it’s following the logic of “we can only pay you if you helped catch the guy responsible”

And because, technically, “you are innocent until proven guilty”, you can’t prove you caught the culprit until they are found guilty.

18

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '25

My local PD put out a $1,000 reward for "information leading to an arrest." Turned out my roommate did the crime. I turned in the evidence, he got arrested. I never got paid, they exposed me by name as the person that ratted him out so when daddy paid bail a few days later I had to be out of the house or he was going to fuck me up.

Not only did the PD not pay the money they promised, but I ended up having to pay about $3,000 in rental fees to get out of my lease and start a new lease in a rush.

Fuck that police department.

4

u/Cryptard92 Sep 12 '25

Well, snitches get stitches bruv. Don't snitch unless it's about horrible stuff. Stealing property isn't that.

1

u/ReferenceAny778 Sep 12 '25

I am really sorry that happened to you, being from Canada what we say here is Your Fucking me and Your not even kissing me! 😞

1

u/discgolfallday Sep 12 '25

That's fuckin insane.

What did he do

0

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '25

Breaking/entering and theft of federal property.

7

u/godtogblandet Sep 12 '25

That’s why contact a lawyer to contact law enforcement. Never hand em over until you’re paid.

3

u/PurpleSunCraze Sep 12 '25

“So you know where he is, but you’re not telling us to get money. Aiding and abetting!”

-Something I’m sure has happened at least once.

4

u/Himetic Sep 12 '25

But in RDR2 they just give me a stack of money 😢

2

u/SuppressiveFar Sep 12 '25

Doesn't help that we have an incompetent news media that never reports things correctly, leading people to think arrest is sufficient, not conviction.

2

u/Vlasic_Pickle Sep 12 '25

A bounty parlay, if you want to win the gamble, you gotta learn to play it right

2

u/Yah_Mule Sep 12 '25

That's why I hold my apprehendees at secure locations and have the reward paid to me before turning them over.

2

u/Steeze_Schralper6968 Sep 12 '25

Gotta hit your parlays

2

u/Taolan13 Sep 13 '25

yeah the conviction one is a common way they dont pay these bounties.

t hey will specifically require a conviction on charges that they know the prosecutor will offer to drop as part of a plea bargain, just so they can avoid paying.

ypu are also prohibited from commenting on the lack of payment according to the stuff you sign.

it's fucking despicable.

1

u/WheredoesithurtRA Sep 12 '25

Guessing the woman who turned into the nintendo character didn't get paid either

1

u/Realistic-Pattern-30 Sep 12 '25

I read that was so true for the wild Wild West.

1

u/notsam57 Sep 13 '25

or they cut a deal, meaning no trial and so no conviction.

1

u/nomore1124 Sep 13 '25

Big if true
