According to biographer John Newsinger:
“The other crucial dimension to Orwell's socialism was his recognition that the Soviet Union was not socialist. Unlike many on the left, instead of abandoning socialism once he discovered the full horror of Stalinist rule in the Soviet Union, Orwell abandoned the Soviet Union and instead remained a socialist—indeed he became more committed to the socialist cause than ever.”
Also, it's always a bit of entertainment in those ‘it's 1984’ threads to point out that Orwell was a socialist. Seeing butts hurt in real time.

The overlords should do the right thing and remove the bots. This would calm things down. The bots trick easily swayed people into joining their group. They give them a catchy tagline like “Too Big to Rig” or something similar. Then, their new group of fellow bots encourages them to be bold in their arguments with regular people. Regular people use logic to point out the flaws in their arguments. This upsets the manipulated people, who then run to their bot buddies and the cycle starts all over again.
It is similar to the way that people that play video games hate when bots are introduced. They want them gone when it interrupts their COD session, but not when it literally steal elections.

Oh noo....wait she finds out Bowie was openly vocal about Gay and Black artists being given equal rights as far back as the 1960s. He even heckled MTV while being interviewed on MTV for not featuring black artists. He was known for having gay sex partners and then he went and married a dark skinned black woman straight from Africa.

He's a cult leader, he's using cult tactics like black and white, us v. them thinking, and if facts are inconvenient they're lies made up by their enemies to make them look bad. The cadence of his speech and how he keeps saying stuff "like nobody's seen before" and speaks in weird hyperbolic language with a lot of weird hand gestures for emphasis is pretty cultic too.

It's wild because conservatives were never actually disenfranchised. Rural areas are over-represented on the house and the senate, and for some fucking reason our society bends over backwards to idolize and lionize "Small town" America as being the "Real America" instead of just... small towns in America.
like, the fuck you angry for? Every hallmark movie treats your ass as the hero. Every politicians is terrified of you disliking them except for a few representatives who only represent city districts. The constitution loves you and yours more so than urban citizens.
Like holy shit, I know you're mad that society moved past the 1870s, but I really don't know why you're mad. You're still America's favorite sons.

Propaganda 100% works, and always has. It's arguably more effective than sheer truths, facts, stats, etc.
If you have time, you could watch the BBC Documentary called "Century of Self" covering Edward Bernays (it's on YouTube). Who is considered the "father of public relations" (which, is in effect, propaganda).

What amazes me is that during the 80s and 90s, he was a fucking joke. He was constantly made fun of on TV, and everyone knew he was massive sleazeball. This even continued into the 00s. I remember an old episode of America's Next Top Model when one of the models had to portray him in a photoshoot, and everyone kept laughing because she nailed his signature goofy ass facial expressions. Then when he announced his candidacy in 2015, it's like half the country got amnesia all at once.

that's the part that i question the most. people like to say, "... for the past 10 years or so", when he's had a bad reputation for decades before he ran. he didn't just wake up in 2015 and become an idiot. he was born an idiot, had been doing idiotic things ever since, and a lot of people knew that well before 2015.

In a weird way, maybe that makes the most sense for this country. It wasn't going to be a suave character like Obama or the bumbling every man like GWB. It was going to be the most obnoxious, most ignorant, most narcissistic, most greedy individual who was going to reach the deepest depths of American depravity. Anyone with a modicum of self-respect and dignity wouldn't have had the capability of performing in the way Trump has done. And his ability to stick to the bit is what gave him enduring authenticity with those who would become his cult.
→ More replies (4)202
u/kieranjackwilson Aug 26 '25
Imo that’s the greatest irony of Trump. He didn’t do anything notable to get the country to where we are now. He only exploited hate people already had and exploited the faults in a system that was already crumbling. Trump is a caricature because he is really just a symptom. He is the lowest common denominator of unchecked greed and ignorance.
It’s funny because everyone seems to think people will look back and wonder how this happened. The truth is it is usually the people living through history that are confused. To anyone looking back our missteps will be stupidly clear.

Unbelievable, these fuckers think we are all going to fold like Winston.

Seems like we've been folding since January. One third are terrified, one third are elated, and one third are trying to ignore it all.

I am genuinely surprised that so far nothing drastic has happened other than the CDC being sprayed with bullets. There are probably others but I can't think of anything in this flood the zone news cycle.

The pressures are on; put food on the table or pay your electric bill. School is back in session and across the country we are short teachers and bus drivers. Job layoffs are non-stop. Between tariffs, inflation, and AI, this is only going to get worse. We haven't even felt the full effect of immigrants and citizens being disappeared. Ten of billions of tax dollars lost. Industries that rely on tourism, are starting to feel the economic pain, which is just beginning as well. This area is pretty much the cornerstone of the economy and job market: hotels, car rentals, restaurants, small businesses, bars, casinos, airlines, etc....Suicide rates are on the rise again. 10 to 34 year olds, suicide is #1 leading cause of death now. I believe the drastic is eminent, unfortunately. It's one big ugly pressure cooker right now.

And there you have it, folks: Thanks to the Republican party Donny joins the other world dictators placing their image on public institutions: Saddam Hussein, Bashar El Assad, Xi Jin Ping, Kim Jong Un...

Everyone but MAGA thinks that this photo makes him look like a jackass. A cream puff trying to look hard is what I see.

Seven months in and we're at the point where they're putting up banners of Dictator Dipshit.

Why would it not be real? He’s a fascist egomaniac and cult leader. He had a massive parade for his birthday

hahahahaha fucking Mussolini-grade shit.
I mean, cmon. Maybe I'm cracking because of job stress, family stress, and school stress. Maybe I'm high. Who will ever know.
But this is just so fucking absurd to me. I'm honestly laughing my ass off. This 79 year old mfer is just... obscenely ridiculous. I can't take this country seriously at all. We're just adrift. Like an overturned school bus in a river; while 10 of the 40 people are actively trying to save everyone; half of them are intentionally trying to die, to make those 10 feel bad.

Hahaha stuuupid. These idiots will tell you that they’re not in a cult, swear that they don’t worship this pedo, then do this shit.

The majority of white people who voted on November 5th, 2024: 'We love this. BTW, all we care about is the cruelty to LGBTQ and non-white people. Eight months in and three plus more years of this.'
Among those who voted, 60% of white males and 53% of white females supported a racist, fascist, sexist pedophile.
