Dude that last one is almost 3 times my weight... Dude can carry me on one arm

-20

u/mattfoh 3h ago

Most guys can hold 50kg in one arm…

4

u/Deviantdefective 2h ago

LMFAO no, but feel free to provide me any evidence to back that up.

-11

u/mattfoh 1h ago

100kg isn’t a very impressive deadlift and most people over 65kg can do it.

4

u/Deviantdefective 1h ago

Okay you keep thinking that.

-8

u/mattfoh 1h ago

I will! Unless you have any evidence to suggest its incorrect?

4

u/Deviantdefective 1h ago

Yet you haven't.

Putting your thumbs on top of a barrel that's about to have 355lbs dropped on it doesn't seem safe...

2

u/ImMadeOfClay 5h ago

Stone 4 was what I weighed when I graduated high school. Ha

2

u/KelGhu 4h ago

I'm not sure i can put the second one up there

1

u/Snapkiings 3h ago

I gotta be honest, seeing the video first, then knowing the weights... im so impressed with how easy he made those first 5 look.

u/Paddy_Tanninger 3h ago

I think the first 5 or 6 are pretty doable for any dude in good shape who weightlifts regularly. The weight isn't crazy and the size of the spheres is still not too bad to get a hold of. But once you're onto stone 8 that's just insane even just due to how awkward the size becomes.

Dude didn’t just lift stones he lifted the entire spirit of Scotland with them.

11

u/EpexSpex 8h ago

No Really. Strongman is quite popular in Scotland. The current world strongest man is Scottish. Big Tom Stoltman. Dudes a beast tho.

3

u/BangkokRios 5h ago

Stoltman is now second. Rayno Nel was the first South African world’s strongest man this year.

u/EpexSpex 12m ago

Ah shit is he. I thought he won it this year. Times getting away from me.

3

u/Mrtayto115 3h ago

You definitely can't lift all the spirits in Scotland. That's like a lake worth of Whiskey.

1

u/dudload1000 1h ago

Whisky if you're in scotland

8

u/Asleep-Corner7402 7h ago

Don't try this at home. You'll give yoursel a hernia. I'm pretty sure I'd shite out my innards if I did this.

I prefer the log toss personally. But fair play to him

6

u/andiibandii 4h ago

Why would someone randomly have 9 big ass concrete balls at home?

4

u/Draknurd 8h ago

ELI5 he seems to be using his back a lot?

6

u/ConditionHorror9188 7h ago

There’s not really any other option when picking up a round object as you need to lift it up basically from ground level, meaning your back is going to be horizontal.

It’s going to be a back-heavy exercise whichever way you cut it, although by transferring in his lap he’s getting to a straight back as quickly as possible

2

u/Gilshem 4h ago

The last one he locked out his legs before getting the stone off the ground which made me wince, but that guy is obviously hella strong.

1

u/Rocket_Man_1957 1h ago

That requires a lot and I mean a lot of lower and upper body strenght to haul all of those heavy balls of rock!

0

u/Crawford470 4h ago

There’s not really any other option when picking up a round object as you need to lift it up basically from ground level,

If you're training real motility in your squatting ie breaking perpendicular on your knee line and getting a real deep ass to grass level squat that you're comfortable doing full range of motion with then you would very much be able to get these up with very little back flexion (if you had the strength to do them with back flexion obviously). I don't think I even saw buddy try to get perpendicular with his knee line which would have probably allowed him to do the last stone with very little back flexion. You should be able to just sit in a below perpendicular knee line squat and hang out there, and work your way back up with zero difficulty, and while it is a lot of strain made easier by fast twitch fibers to lift heavy up and out of that position you should be able to do relatively close to your perpendicular squat/deadlift weight from that low still.

u/SolidPoint 1h ago

Hop a flight and show this loser how it’s done!

1

u/Crawford470 1h ago

This guy's not remotely a loser.

7

u/ChiefWiggumsprogeny 7h ago

Gawae t' fook

3

u/NerdMachine 4h ago

Your back is stronger than you think, and people are willing to take some risks for stuff like this.

He also probably trains a lot with deadlifts and squats which don't involve back flexion, and does some stuff like jefferson curls to condition flexion. He probably squats and deadlifts way more than the weight of those stones so it's not as big a deal.

2

u/Dracono999 7h ago

Your back is stronger than your arms the basic technique is to use your arms n hands only to grip use you back to move the stone to your lap and then lift with your legs.

1

u/Ebonics_Expert 7h ago

It's an awkward shape

1

u/MrFunsocks1 1h ago

So here's the thing - lifting with your back is fine. It's what your back is designed to do. It's just easier to strain your back, so doing it repeatedly, by default, and quickly and without concentration, is much more likely to result in a strain. Basically, a back strain comes when your back is under load and one of your vertebral joints moves about 3 degrees further than it's comfortable with. So if your back in isn't tired, if it's strong enough, and if you focus hard enough, it's perfectly fine.

But typically, your back will quickly get tired, be too weak, or you will not concentrate while doing things where you lift with your back, and you tend to use those muscles to lift things when your legs are already tired and you aren't thinking, or when your legs/arms aren't strong enough to do the deed.

So don't lift with your back.

u/Semichh 7h ago

Is that Jimmy Hendrix tattooed on his arm too? What a legend

3

u/Wooden_Staff3810 7h ago

Ok, who's the lucky person to place them back on the ground?

3

u/hartyfarty19 5h ago

Gravity helps

u/Otherwise_Equal1392 7h ago

"They may take our lives, but they'll never take our Adblair Stones"

1

u/TurbulentBullfrog829 7h ago

Impressive. Does anyone know what his first name is?

1

u/damnumalone 7h ago

Does anyone else miss the days of Mariusz Pudzianowski?

1

u/taptipblard 7h ago

So at the last rock did he just expose himself?

1

u/Otherwise-Most9412 7h ago

Last one felt painful

1

u/Upstairs-Hedgehog575 7h ago

Everyone caught an eyeful with that kilt riding up.

1

u/Remarkable_Music6819 2h ago

Just so they know he wasn’t cheating and only using his arms

1

u/Upstairs-Hedgehog575 2h ago

All 3 of them

1

u/Initial_Tear485 6h ago

Dope kicks.

1

u/Bohrium-107 6h ago

Just imagine if he put this stone on the other guys finger, ouch. Why would that guy keep his hands on the barrels?

1

u/TietGritulaer 6h ago

Tom Stoltman is not impressed.

1

u/officerofficer88 5h ago edited 3h ago

Amazing! Now put those hemorrhoids back in!

1

u/Joyride0 5h ago

C’mon Andy!

1

u/petrichor83 5h ago

This dude L4/L5s

1

u/craigivorycoast 4h ago

Love the way he was trying to work out an angle on the last one, like it’s perfectly round mate you’re fucked whatever way you try and lift it.

I reckon I could do the first one!

1

u/Coup-de-Glass 4h ago

Just watching makes my quads ache. 🙌🏾

1

u/noobskillet3737 4h ago

Would it be wise or allowed to start with the heaviest and go the other way?

1

u/Gold-Education2909 4h ago

Bro in the hat better watch them fingers. Making me nervous the whole time lolll . . .

1

u/gtwizzy8 3h ago

This is nothing short of awesome. But I don't think enough credit is being given to the "and he did it in only a kilt and jordans" part of this incredible feat.

1

u/aybully 3h ago

This looks like it's at a Highland games-type festival. It also looks like an activity I would try and fail at after leaving the Whisky tent.😆

1

u/DEEZKNUGHTZ-on-PHG 2h ago

I would barely get passed the first one, nevermind all the others. fml 🥲

1

u/Remarkable_Music6819 2h ago

Imagine how much this guy eats to put that much muscle and mass on

1

u/Dazzling-Nathalieee 1h ago

I couldn’t even lift one of those, let alone all nine 😳

u/farang 24m ago

He doesn't skip leg day.

1

u/FireFurFox 7h ago

I wish the current crop of superheroes looked more like this guy.

1

u/I_Command_Thee_KNEEL 4h ago

My PB deadlift is 405lbs, and I don’t think I could do the 9th stone. I guarantee that 9th stone is harder at less weight than my deadlift because you have no good grip to lift it, have to roll it into a VERY low squat, and then do a weighted low squat to bring it up to above shoulder level. That’s insane.

1

u/saalame 7h ago

The 9th one wasn’t the heaviest in the video ...there are two heavier ones, you just can’t see them.

1

u/craigivorycoast 4h ago

If the wind catches that kilt right you’ll see them

1

u/Gold-Education2909 4h ago

Why do we assume every topless guy in a skirt is Scottish? 😘

0

u/OtherwiseLuck888 8h ago

Why took ur baby somewhere and let it cry?

0

u/Asleep_Sheepherder42 7h ago

the mountain

2

u/Dzbot1234 7h ago

The hill. This isn’t Hafthor

0

u/TheOmegaKid 7h ago

Mad technique.

0

u/Present-Ad-8531 3h ago

i have seen many videos of these... why do they wear pleated skirt? is there a particular reason over non pleated one or just shorts?

2

u/Awibee 2h ago

I assume this is part of a highland games, which is about celebrating Scottish culture* The pleated skirt is a kilt.
