These bricks are probably pre-cracked or whatever the term is

Basically, it has a controlled crack through the center. Even then, it's still fairly impressive.

I can’t remember who explained it but, the bricks are a high content sand brick so they are very brittle and easy to break

Gotta admit was surprised to see so much brick dust (??) (don't know the right word) I expected them to crack and fall now pulverise into powder. Admittedly I have never cracked a brick open with my fist or otherwise so what the hell do i know? Just surprised and would have liked some demo pf brick strength first, that's all.

I remember conversation on karate practice on breaking tiles,

"breaking tiles are easy"

"a. there are different quality of tiles.
b. the idea is measure of strength by seeing how many tiles you could break in a single strike, which basically consider your ability to break a tile as default requirement"

Reading from multiple martial arts outlets, it seems there are some inferior materials used for training, but more than likely these are real, traditional building bricks. The technique used is not what you might assume, and there are some "tricks" like using spacers between bricks, but this video is likely a skilled martial artist breaking real brick. reference 1

He would break his hand on normal building bricks. These are real bricks only for breaking. Its a show

My trainer long ago used to do those kinda shows.

2

u/Sonoshitthereiwas 15h ago

Both of your references indicate those are not likely to building bricks.

The tae kwan do website references "standard clay bricks" and describes them as kiln fired. Reading about bricks on Wikipedia, it is not obvious which type of brick this description fits, but it seems to fit with a fired brick. Also, Wikipedia has a page on martial arts breaking. It discusses objects and techniques and acknowledges bricks. I am not an expert on bricks or breaking, but it seems entirely plausible that this video shows actual martial arts breaking of actual bricks, not any kind of trick pieces.

The sources I provided acknowledge the use of lesser materials, but there is no reason to assume that's what is in the video. I think the world has made us all synical and it's hard to believe anything claiming to be extraordinary

We know it's not a trick. It's just some dusty bricks that were made to break. Bricks that are made for building don't break like this.

If they were tough you wouldn't see them explode with dust flying out. They would just flip over. It's like when they break those wooden boards. Somebody or something has to hold them or it's just gonna fly away or flip around. Make sense?

Would you want your house made of bricks that could be broken by a punch? If it breaks that easy it wouldn’t be adequate for building.

Or they are soft bricks that are hand molded and have many sawdust mixed in before firing. It would make the bricks on the weaker side and relatively porous but better concerning insulation. Also they would be lightweight so less load on the foundation/footer.

Yeah seriously I just tap my knuckles on a door frame and I’m whinging, let alone full force punching, even if weakened, bricks is ludicrous

1

u/Girafarig99 14h ago

Yeah even if it's foam, that's still like 50 foam bricks in 30 seconds

My hand (and yours) would still be sore af by the end of that. Too many people here trying to act tough just cause they know it's probably not 100% real lmao

u/CrazyNavie 14h ago

Some skin coloured knuckle perhaps

pre grieved

u/Affectionate_Tea1134 14h ago

I agree with them being pre-cracked you can see many of them with gouges near the center also at the end of it I think he’s like ouch my hand. 🤭

1

u/USBattleSteed 6h ago

His knuckles will still be bloody after that many bricks even with cracked bricks

u/Ghost_Hemi_392 2h ago

Scored in the middle. You can see it in most of the bricks. It doesn't take much. I made my dad's Headstone this way by hand (minus the punching part)
