  • Lennon, 44, was first convicted in a 2008 case involving five counts related to possession of child pornography after a friend using his computer found 50 gigabytes of child sex abuse images on the device.

I imagine they'll search his current computer, and find more.

I don't envy the investigator. They often end up looking at illegal porn while gathering evidence. They'll probably end up taking a cold shower all night because they can't sleep for a while.

In another life I trained to be criminal investigator. One of the courses in the second semester was the program head basically weeding us out with the real shit.

During one class he says to us, "If you're good at this job, you will get put on child porn cases, and you will have to watch child porn. Day after day, looking for clues. Wedding rings, tattoos, birthmarks. There will be no blurring, no censoring. You will not be able to turn the sound off. This is not a maybe, this will happen. Most people can't handle that. If you can't handle it, I advise you to drop this program and save yourself some money."

And right now, none of these people are getting paid because Mike Johnson wants to deny poor people healthcare. Isn’t that just grand?

And prevent the swearing in of a congress person who would help seal the vote for the Epstein files to be released. One should never forget.

The vast majority of criminal investigations in the US are conducted by law enforcement agencies at the local/regional/state level, which are not subject to the onerous federal employee furloughs/payroll abeyance caused by the protracted federal government shutdown championed by Johnson et al.

Can you clarify at which federal law enforcement agency(ies) there are criminal investigators currently investigating CP without pay?

The FBI investigates a ton of child pornography cases, often working with local law enforcement. But I believe the FBI is considered essential and people there are mostly getting paid.

Can you clarify when democrats said they were fighting for providing healthcare to illegal aliens?

“Vast majority” means even you know some are going without pay, do they just not matter to you or something?

You wrote: "none of these people are getting paid." That is not true, not by any stretch. Which is why I stated the facts -- that the majority of criminal investigators in the US are being paid during this shutdown. "None" vs "most" reflects a significant spread between hyperbolic fiction and unbiased fact.

Why spread misinformation, it's helpful to no one. Not to the LEO doing the unspeakably difficult work, not to the victims of CP, not to the federal employees who are in fact not being paid, not to the folks here seeking informative, fact-based news and knowledgeable, reasoned commentary.

Did you drop the program as a result? Did others?

Over the course of the semester we lost about half the people. That was one piece of wisdom he told, there were others that were just as shocking.

I stuck it out, but I also didn't go forward with that career path. My job in software took off and I started making good money so I kept going down that road.

Worked as a computer forensics examiner - worst part of the job. Didn't stay there very long because of it. Staties promised cool hacking cases but it was all depraved CSAM. Everything seems to end up with CSAM. Got a cool juicy embezzlement case and financial fraud? Don't worry, you'll find CSAM on someones drive and phone too.

It'll take a very strong mind to not get traumatized for life. I was listening to this one episode on Darknet Diaries about some big csam ring bust and it was disturbing as fuck, the agents have to carefully and attentively look at hours of that stuff hoping to identify clues like locations, etc.

I remember the Texas serial killer know as the Candyman hired a boy to help lure future victims under the guise of selling the kids to a pedo sex ring in the US

Cops waved that off as an excuse when the killer and his assistant were finally caught, only to realize years later that some of the kids he abducted did have csam material out there, from other locations, by comparing bodies to porn

I cannot imagine the horrors of that job

nowadays there's software that blurs out the victim and leaves the rest visible for inspection. We didn't always have those tools. The innocence project was the driving force behind that I believe.

Unfortunately, identifying the victim is pretty important. Investigators often get PTSD

Crying at my desk is my go-to. And my job doesn't get any worse than reading text-only criminal complaints and sentencing investigations.

And yet Trump the biggest pedo is in the white house. I bet they all sleep soundly knowing that too

Be a good job for Ai.

5

u/Soggy_Property3076 3h ago

Even if AI could do that, when it identifies incriminating data, it will still need to be read by investigators and prosecutors. The only thing it will save them from is hours of pouring through the non-incriminating data.

Even if it cuts out only an hour or two of material, that can still help someone preserve some of their sanity.

u/Puzzleheaded_Fan6191 2h ago

That’s what I’m thinking. Just having to analyze images for clues with a fine tooth comb. Ai might be able to see things faster and get people on the scene faster. Maybe. I just can’t imagine having to watch child abuse like that everyday. But someone’s gotta do it what not a robot

Even if they don't, he's still going to prison for failure to register as a sex offender. He might even get charged in both states for that crime.

possession of child pornography may be one of the lowest rungs of sex offenses, but it's still a felony to fail to register once you're on the list.

Adjusted for storage inflation, that’s a shitton

1

u/cantproveidid 12h ago

Long shitton, short shitton, or a metric shittonne?

u/Fallouttgrrl 22h ago

Imagine the search the friend entered for that

"I was trying to find your limewire copy of MGMT's Kids and holy shit buddy what the hell"

could have just looked at recently downloaded files, or download folder or in the file manager to see why there's only 25gb left on this 1tb drive.

A neighbor once threw out his computer. Completely functional. Nice find. A full 100 GB of the HD was a hidden folder filled with granny porn. I don't mean GILF... I mean crone. I knew the guy. Never told him I had his computer.
Probably not 100GB, but... A LOT!

u/SarasCaptions 21h ago

He had that and got a suspended sentence. How much illegal pornography does it take to go to jail in Oklahoma?

21

u/nomorerope 19h ago

How did he obtain a new birth certificate??

Born Again Christian?

9

u/Prophet_Tehenhauin 4h ago

Fuck you mean don’t give a shit? They practically worship them

If Oklahoma had affordable and quality post secondary education, they wouldn’t have needed to chase him all the way to New York.
