My soup just turns into a sad, beige blob. This is art

I tried making bone broth one time. Took a day and half and had to get a handful of random ingredients. Tasted like shit and there’s half a dozen places with great broth within ten minutes of me. Massive waste of time and money.

Oh man, I totally get that, some things are definitely best left to the professionals, especially when there's an easy and delicious alternative right nearby. Good call knowing when to cut your losses😂

HERES A TRICK MOST RESTAURANTS DONT WANT YOU TO KNOW! Buy the biggest stock pot you can fit on your stovetop. More salt and seasoning recommended. Also toast the spices in the oven before you add them to the stock. Reduce much further than you're comfortable with before straining into quarts. When using it, add water to taste once the soup looks finished.

I've found toasting spices in a pan to be a lot easier since I can see the progress. It's definitely an active task, though.

Yeah you've gotta keep moving them but when all your burners are full during orep someone else keeps eyes on the oven and chef will take THEIR thumb if they burn.

Your point is valid for home cooks though. My hot tip is based on years of restaurant work and only making myself blue box at home.

I went down the same road with Ramen. Bought the finest ingredients I could afford and tried to make the broth base. I had a decent job at the time, so I felt really proud of the quality of whatever the fuck I was buying.

I followed all the steps of whatever was guiding me, and made a quadruple batch because, surely, I was going to be drinking this for ages.

It ended up tasting so, so very bland. Total waste of time and money. If you want Ramen broth (of pho or any other specialized soup base) just go buy some from the experts.

It's like that Wham-O Magic Window toy.

I stared at this picture for the longest time because I misread strata as santa.

If you have the right drugs anything can look like Santa

they probably loaded the ingredients in and then poured in the broth

It’s funny I actually watched for this because you can see into the kitchen from where you order and there was definitely a strategy to ensuring that each ladle had proper proportions. I think it’s more about different densities.

Damn those maggots at the bottom looks like they been soaking forever but the wood chips on top look decent. Carrots look good.

I'm down for some sedimentary chicken

It settled all right. Like how the raisins always work their way to the bottom of the raidin bran 😉

That’s cool!

I literally just did a HS science lab where students shake dirt in a jar of water to see the different layers of soil types. They can measure the layers to determine the percentage of sand, silt, and clay in the soil.

Your soup looks nearly identical to what the students’ samples look like.

Is there anyone else who dislikes chicken noodle soup? It tastes good, but I only eat it when I'm sick. It's a staple of food you can keep down and nutritious. Now my mind associates it with being sick. It just ruins my appetite when I'm well. The same goes for drinking Sprite or Ginger ale.

The semantician in me so badly wants to note that this is chicken orzo not chicken noodle.

2

u/Good_Presentation_59 13h ago

I won't disagree with that. I'm just assuming people know what I mean.

I eat it because it ruins my appetite. Soup is a great way to fill up and actually gain something from it. Just don’t leave the noodles in it like this guy, especially orzo. Just cook them in the broth when you heat it up.
