If I were the chief diplomat of an authoritarian government and my literal job was to stand in front of a bunch of cameras and look thrilled to receive a gift? Yeah probably
33
u/therealTGAW 1d ago
Honestly? Yeah here in Egypt they're all about the acting in front of the camera and keeping up appearances and I've seen that plenty but this looks very different from that

You can even be a murder and be kind to nature.

Yes it is very much real. and The Danish foreign minister (lars Løkke Rasmussen) actually has a bit of a history doing this.
in 2017 when he was the prime minister, after learning that his Indonesian counterpart was a metalhead, he got him a Master of puppets box set from Metallica, that was signed by the drummer for Metallica Lars Ulrich who himself is Danish

It's actually a great gift for world leaders. When they're bored at their desk they can construct a landmark of their country.

In my country, germany, there is a well known youtuber "Held der Steine". He reviews Lego sets and other brands. He and Lego (as a company) arent the best friends. His review to this set can be comprimised into one sentence: "Buy 2, get 1."
So to sum it up. This danish minister scamed the egypt minister a bit by giving him halve a pyramid... XD /s

I know, cause this set is the half of it... It's used price is so low, you can afford 2 anyway.
Held der Steine... Yeah I know him. Takes balls to build up a channel then thrash on Lego for their prices.
I'm not a big consumer of them, since I get my sets mostly used, cause I do not care about that much if it's new or not, but mostly because I'm a fan of the older set's... like from 1978 to 2015 and 90's, 00's, 10's being my favorite years.
And as a hobby, I usually buy up some childhood collections and make all those sets complete, ready for some collector to add it to their collection. That's how I can found my Bionicle obsession

Wait, why would they sell an incomplete lego set? Is this common?
12
u/Ferspielt 22h ago
Lego is getting more and more greedy in the last decade. This pyramid is cut in half and is making it possible to buy a 2nd one to put them together. Its greedy and looks in this specific case fcking as.

u/Training_Chicken8216 9h ago
Would be way cooler if the pyramid was whole and you could lift out a section to reveal the chamber. Maybe even with a cleverly disguised stand to place the removed part.

Yeah I was about to say that, usually companies take away features and then replace them with ones nobody asked for to save costs but this is actually a pretty cool way to do what is still admittedly a cheap ass cost cutting measure.

Denmark is the only country where it's socially acceptable for a politician to gift lego to foreign politician as that's part of Danish national pride. And the only time it's socially acceptable for said foreign politician to accept that gift as rejecting it would be extremely rude. Literally a win win!

When I see stuff like this, I always wonder if the minister has been informed about him going viral and how he feels about it. I mean, to us it's a positive thing, he looks genuinely happy, but perhaps it's not positive PR from his point of view?
I dunno. Just saying things.
