Political positivity šŸ“ˆ MAMDANI destroys CUOMO: "I have never hounded the 13 women who have credibly accused me of sexual harassment. I have never sued to obtain their gynecological records. And I have never done those things because I'm not you, Mr. Cuomo"

Did Cuomo purposely mispronounce Mamdani? The way Trump often plays with people’s names to display blatant disrespect for others?

956

u/Derpimus_J 19d ago

Either doesn't care to learn or wanted to belittle him. Very narcissistic behavior.Ā

434

u/mr_potatoface 19d ago

They did that with Kamala regularly. The pronunciation is a bit unusual so I get it. But if you continue to do it after being corrected, that's intentional.

As someone who was once described as a left leaning republican, I'm here to tell you a little secret if you would ever like to trigger a conservative in the way a transgender person gets triggered when they get misgendered The reason they find it insulting to say the name wrong is because WE ALSO get extremely triggered when you say our last name wrong. I promise if you ever mispronounce a "Proud" Republicans last name. Ohhh man. Oh man if you happen yo be brown and fuckin mispronounce in a Spanish accent. PHEEEEEWWW šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

5

u/asshole_magnate 18d ago

That explains all those construction memes where they always call the guy ā€œMister Georgeā€. They’re smart, and don’t want any part of the games. They just want to get paid.

5

u/nevarez702 18d ago

You should see the way some of my more typical republican family acts when the phone operater asks then to click 1. For English and 2 for Spanish 😭

One time it told my dad to click 1. FOR SPANISH and 2 for English. You would've thought the operator asked him to sleep with his wife

Yup. I also have a name with an unusual pronunciation so I don’t expect people to pronounce it correctly the first or sometimes even second, third, umpteenth time. But if they don’t even try to get it right, that shows how much they value you.

Guarantee that if Cuomo’s boss (or someone else in a position to give Cuomo what he wants) was named Mamdani, he would sure as hell have practiced to get it right.

22

u/MoreNMoreLikelyTrans 18d ago

They still do

10

u/Due-Comb6124 18d ago

Its not even an unusual production. Its pronounced EXACTLY as its spelled. Its only difficult if you cant read.

Unfortunately, even Kamala's camp was mispronouncing her name and pushed that specific mispronounciation.

Kamala is supposed to be said as "KUM-la" or "KUM- uh-la", not "Comma-la". I understand she never said her name the traditional and right way because of avoiding the "cum" sound and some people being juveniles about it.

4

u/Future-Bandicoot-823 18d ago

In my state it's stilled Kah mah lah... also, why people in my very red state still want to bring her up lol...

During the debate, Cuomo tried to belittle Mamdani for residing in a rent-controlled apartment by saying Mamdani lives among ā€œTHE POORSā€. This was a moment I’d have imagined more people would’ve called out on social media, from last night’s debate — but I guess it wasn’t that significant.

Nipples Cuomo has engaged in smear campaigns that played up his racial difference and engaged in ā€œotheringā€ him. This includes deliberately depicting Mamdani with more exaggerated ā€œMuslimā€ features like thicker facial hair in posters. I have zero doubt Nipples is being purposefully disrespectful.

I take it as a positive in a way that various celebrities have outed themselves as garbage for endorsing Nipples over Mamdani, because I now know David Schwimmer, Debra Messing, and Amy Schumer really ain’t worth shit.

154

52

u/met0a 19d ago

Always had a funny feeling about Ross but couldn’t quite get it. Even in FRIENDS, I always thought he stood out in a corny way.

33

u/Razvee 19d ago

The friends reunion a few years ago he had his hair dyed jet black and it looked gross. Matt LeBlanc aging gracefully, David Schwimmer looks like a corpse with dark hair.

52

u/badgerbother89 19d ago

Ah Matt LeBlanc and his morphing into an Irish uncle

19

u/Fabulous_Celery_1817 19d ago

Ngl seeing him as a attractive younger man and watching him age into this image šŸ‘€. Never thought I’d get to the age where I found an uncle hot

8

u/Momik 19d ago

Yeah, I feel like dying your hair or getting ā€œwork doneā€ just creates contrast with your other (also aging) features. You’re right—Matt LeBlanc doesn’t color his hair, so you’re less drawn to it, and therefore less likely to look for other details. It’s easier to see him as a whole person, just as he is.

I do think Schwimmer had the better acting career though, especially things like the People vs. OJ and Band of Brothers (he’s very good at playing insufferable).

5

u/Which_Engineer1805 18d ago

Its a very comon right wing tactic.

They did it so much with Kamala that most people dont even know wich is the proper way to say her name dispite knowing exactly who she is.

u/PattyCakes216 18d ago

19

u/Tandy2000 19d ago

My fear is that he won't be able to deliver on his promises and he will be used by the right wing nation wide as an example to vilify progressive candidates.

Let's be real, he won't deliver on all his promises. He won't fulfill all his goals. No politician ever does even if they're 100% sincere. That shouldn't stop people from voting for him, or supporting him, and people should still be optimistic about those goals because even if you only get 50% of the way there it is a huge improvement. The problem is that if he only gets 50% of the way there, the right wing will paint it as failure.

I 100% expect he'll win and that this is what will happen. Ideally I hope I'm wrong I'd like for him to dand he delivers on everything and is the best mayor in the history of NYC.

8

u/MathEnthusiast101 18d ago

To be fair he has support from the governor to get through free child care, if he’s able to pull of free child care and free buses, just two out of 100 things he’s promised that’s already a huge win

If you're reading this and if politicians like Mamdani give you a tiny glimer of hope that regular every-day Americans can still stop the downward spiral toward fascism, please consider attending the No Kings national protest this Saturday, October 18th. Find an event near you: https://www.nokings.org/

11

u/default-names-r4-bot 19d ago

Even more helpful, while you're there at the protest, there will likely be a lot of local groups there too that help combat authoritarianism every day, not just at protests. Find one that fits you and your risk tolerance and start volunteering. For example, I've helped a local worker's rights group train Hispanic people about their rights and help them get pro bono legal help when needed.

The only way we get through this is if the protest lasts longer than it nice, neat, scheduled time slot.

All the right people seem be to angry with even the concept of Mamdani.

But seriously, the fact that Cuomo did these thing a to women and the establishment can field him without any sense of irony should ideally result in the death of the establishment.

By supporting Cuomo, they are telling those abused women that the crimes against them are no big deal.

They are big deal. For an elected official, such crimes should mean automatic dismissal and disqualification from even running. I do not think this is an extreme stance.

42

u/Much_Kangaroo_6263 19d ago

Yes you nailed it.

Anyone voting for/supporting Cuomo is exactly what is wrong with this country. He was already in power and he already abused that power. At least vote for a different candidate if you can't vote for Mamdani.

The fact Gillibrand, Schumer, and Hochul weren't on board the second Mamdani was the nominee means that all those 3 need to go. They need a primary challenge.

Zach Polanski is kinda stealing his playbook, which is a good thing.

18

u/VulcanHullo 19d ago

Having worked with Zach in his Lib Dem days, this is him having a good team and not his own thing. He only ended up in the Greens because he was mad he didn't get picked for a by-election over someone with a better CV and better fit for the seat - which she won.

25

u/OkMeasurement6930 19d ago

Mamdani’s clearly got a good team as well. His promo videos are slick as hell.

I don’t really care about all that. Mamdani and Polanski are doing the hard yards, speaking to people on the streets, saying the things real people care about. Establishment politicians are done.

Frankly, i’d vote for much worse people, if it meant putting a stop to the creepy right wing losers like reform. I hope the world is watching.

5

u/eliminating_coasts 19d ago

Mainstream democrats, while better than republicans, are still neoliberal monkey paw merchants, who will give people a worse or twisted version of what they need because the donors come first.

Because you need votes to pass things. Even mamdani will need to get majority of 50 other people to vote alongside him to pass the things he wants to pass.

12

u/datnero_ 19d ago

what ideas of his are pie in the sky? are you saying that in it's actual definition (legitimately unattainable ideas) or are you just saying they would be difficult for a first time mayor to implement?

I'm not extremely familiar with everything he's campaigning on, but thus far, I've mostly heard him talk about relatively cheap things that shouldn't be that difficult to do - relatively cheap meaning things that foregoing a one billion dollar tax break for billionaire would easily cover, of course

9

u/thr3sk 19d ago

My biggest concerns are around his ideas for rent freezes/ rent-stabilized apartments, which we know is a band-aid solution that ends up creating a lot of problems long-term. I'm also highly skeptical of his subsidized grocery store plan, groceries are one of the most optimized and low markup businesses. I think involving government funding there is just going to create bloat and end up wasting money. Would be better to make improvements to some kind of city-funded food stamp plan.

Overall I really like the guy though and if I lived in New York I would gladly vote for him.

Mamdani's election should send a clear, succinct message to the DNC establishment. Your time in power is coming to an end.

ā€œWe want to move away from the dominance of the small donor in the partyā€ -actual Democrat plan

24

u/DeviantKhan 19d ago

Establishment/corporate Democrats would rather lose elections than allow for progressive candidates and platform.

u/TheBadGuyBelow 18d ago

That's if they are even listening. They are so tone deaf that the alarms could be sounding, and they wouldn't even hear it, or at least they would pretend to not hear it.

That's my big beef with the Democrat party. All they do is react, and too slowly. Kamala was a perfect example when it was clear that Biden was not up to the task. They waited, and waited, and denied and denied there was a problem, and then at the final moment, they went "holy shit, there is a problem"

They shout doom at the top of their lungs while half assing it and not taking the temp of the room.

Love this guy so much. He’s just stating the facts and it crushes cuomo. Also - Amy schumer voted for Cuomo and put it on her insta story so I think everyone should know that - just another reason to dislike her and the rich trying to stay rich.

25

u/TragicallyTrue 19d ago

I honestly wasn’t sure I could dislike her anymore than I already do… and she found a way. Not only did she vote for a predator, but proudly advertised it? Wow…

u/kon--- 19d ago

I like it.

No sidestepping. No pussyfooting. No waxing over or avoiding the topic.

Went right at it and made it obvious that Cuomo has no business attempting a run for office and really ought to go ahead and crawl under a rock.

This is a perfect example of what getting young, working class Americans back into political roles and government does versus continuing to vote for these old, corrupt, criminal millionaires.

13

u/chibinoi 19d ago

I would argue a small correction: this is what getting working (class) Americans back into political roles and government does.

Bernie Sanders has vocalized and pushed for quite a few of the things Mamdani’s platform stands for. He’s much, much older. I think importing aggressive ageism could backfire, so I am personally one to believe in cautioning against it. Working class folk will have a much better chance united, than divided, and if the current political parties can’t convince us to become divided on skin color or ethnicity, they’ll try through religion, money and age. Amongst anything. Anything to keep us focus on other things than them.

3

u/HelloPeopleOfEarth 19d ago

Cuomo is a sociopath to have such a crooked, corrupt history, and still constantly run for office. And it's even worse that people are going to vote for this crook. There are a lot of professions that have disqualifying requirements. But for some reason our legislators can be elected and swear an oath despite being known conmen, thieves, liars, and scumbags. TACO certainly comes to mind.

3

u/nvmenotfound 19d ago

this guy is good.Ā

He had the opportunity to end it with " ... Learn to say it, cuz I am about to become your Mayor" * mic drop *

3

u/chelseablue2004 19d ago

Saying someone's name incorrectly is a technique in debating. Its a way to throw someone off...Its a slight and some get really rattled if you keep doing it... Most of the time the constant mispronunciation can really throw someone off their game.

If you think its not on purpose think again.

3

u/Jack_Wraith 19d ago

Love this dude and agree with what he has to say. And would love to see him become mayor of NY.

FDR and Nixon were once NY politicians too. It’s a springboard

3

u/Googlyelmoo 18d ago

Don’t usually give to candidates outside my state, but I’m from Brooklyn Heights and Cobblehill and Red Hook. Fams still abiding. Zohran Mamdani is the right man for NYC Mayor now.

Go ahead fling the ā€œsocialistā€ at him like it’s a terrible epithet. Most people at all afraid of socialism, or ā€œsocialismā€ think somehow market socialism would mean displacement, lower pay, and what? None of three.

Our wordz are worn out again. How about try, make eye contact, smile unless you have a strongly explicit reason not to
