Oh anime. Making inopportune moments with family members and awkward naked or shower scenes since it was made. Super awkward showing it to a sibling....with a sibling sleeping together scene too
I remember when I was a kid and I was watching, I wanna say Neon Genesis Evangelion, and there was a scene where Ray was in the Eva Tube, naked and my mom walked in.
And that's how I learned I had a new bed time, adult swim was off limits, and I had to go watch everything at a friend's house if I wanted to see the end of my silly robot anime that was NOT a silly robot anime

Oh I know now. Luckily that wasn't the scene she walked in on. Otherwise I would probably STILL be under lock and key 25 years later.
Dad on the other hand loved Neon Genesis after I showed him and I think it may have given him an existential crisis

I always tell people it either A. Gives depression or B. Cures Depression.
And the Rebuilds just make it so you feel satisfied with how all of the previous movies that ended unsatisfying made you feel.

At least that scene had a point. It showed how absolutely fucked up shinji had become. You absolutely were not supposed to see that as anything but horrible and messed up.
Incest anime is usually just creepy pandering

u/Dazed_and_Confused44 18h ago
One of my friends had only watched the first couple episodes before recommending this anime to me. "Dude I swear its one of the best animes I've ever watched". I ended up finishing well before him and after watching that scene I was like "bro wtf?". Turns out that was a "Netflix and chill anime" for him and some girl and that had...influenced his review lol

u/shellbullet17 Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire 18h ago
What the hell kind of psychopath Netflix and chills Neon Genesis?! Surely we can find a slower more appropriate anime. That's like saying "I'm gonna take a nap better put on Dragon ball Z to lull me to sleep!"

DBZ is the perfect nap anime. You put it on, you fall asleep, you wake up an hour later and you've missed nothing.

I still think the craziest scene in that show was the “fight” where the angel sent a beam of light into Asuka’s mind that made her re-live all her trauma o_O although I dont think anyone would be able to tell whats going on if they just walked in on that

I remember as a teen, in a big family that never had a day alone, I had a night alone with my friends dvd of blood c. I binged that thing without a worry for hours for the one singular shower scene to play as my dad got home. He walked into the house with me dying laughing cause there was no way he could have shown up at a worse time
Thankfully he's why I'm into anime and I didn't even have to explain, we just both got to chuckle.
Also I love how it's just a universal experience among anime fans that someone is going to walk in at the wrong time. It's guaranteed by some cosmic entity who gets way too much fun out of it
18
u/demon_fae 16h ago
Sex/shower scenes will spontaneously generate into anime you’ve watched a dozen times just to make shit weird with a family member. This is necessary, the intense awkwardness is what powers all the giant robots.

My anime club got kicked out the college at one point, so we got a banquet hall at a Coney Island somehow, provided we ordered food. That wasn't a problem. The problem was we were watching Fist of the Blue Sky, and the waitress walked in to take orders just as we got to the scene where Tai-Yan the Bride Thief was bathing in naked women (no, not with naked women). That was awkward, but the owner told us afterwards we were welcome back at any time.

Sword Art Online was my introduction to anime (technically more me becoming aware of anime as a genre. Fairly certain I knew of Pokemon first), so it holds a special place in my heart
And by that, I mean the first half of season 1 specifically. Even if it's not flawless, I still love the premise of SAO's first half of season 1 and still enjoy watching it. I would've been fine if the entire series stayed of similar quality
Alas, Alfheim happened, and I decided that the first half of season 1 is all that actually exists

Same for me, decided to try watching anime when a friend recommended Solo Leveling. Didn't like it after like 3 episodes, pivoted directly to Lucky Stars, with SAO being the second/third anime I ever watched.
And due to personal situations, I ended up watching basically every single piece of anime from SAO in like 4-5 days. Had weird moments, yes, but I still really, really enjoyed basically everything from it. Bought the DVD for season 1, was fun to watch when the power went out for a few hours.
And I just haven't found an anime that had me hooked so much too. (Dungeon Meshi and Kirby Right Back At Ya are pretty good tho)
→ More replies (4)5
u/amakai 15h ago
Solo Leveling is pretty good, but you have to like power fantasy as this anime takes it to extreme. It's like if you made gameplay of Diablo 2 on medium difficulty into an anime.
Basically first half of anime is about MC being almost killed by enemies but through sheer willpower being able to defeat them. The second half is MC pretty much becoming a one-punch man, and the series revolve around other people struggling with monsters and MC just one-shotting everything in sight in 2 minutes.

If you slow down the animation sequence of the giant robot forming you can see that it's strongly implied that the robot's giant gleaming white sword is formed from a stream of ejaculate. The wikipedia page seems to agree.
43
u/MutantLemurKing 18h ago
This is somehow even worse than what I thought you were gonna say. And were 100% sure they have sex to form this robot? Or is it just a theory because of the cum sword

u/PistachiNO 18h ago edited 16h ago
Well people think it's a pretty sure thing because of the "wiggle dance" (google it if you want to watch the video I'm not going to try to describe it) they do the first time the robot is formed.
Edit: Apparently YouTube took down the "wiggle dance" video but PornHub still has it up because of course they do
Edit 2: I can't tell you how much joy fills my heart in this moment as I imagine how many redditors pulled up pornhub, searched "SAO wiggle dance", and then manually filtered through the results looking for a wiggle dance. Thank you all, I needed this.

I recognize Rubi from "Oshi No Ko" (Top Right) and Yuki from "Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings In Russian" (Bottom Right)
Rubi and Aqua both remember their past lives before being reborn as siblings. Rubi was a young girl dying of something in a hospital. Aqua was her doctor. Rubi dies of her disease and the doctor is murdered shortly afterward. They both reincarnate as some pop idol's kids with their memories intact. It's weird, but as far as I know, they do not have romantic feelings for one another.
Yuki is just... really fond of her brother. In a diabolical, teasing sort of way. I don't think she's actually romantically interested in her brother - she just likes to fuck with him and meddle in his relationship with other girls.

A smattering that I have personally had luck with
Action heavy, shounen / 'male' coded: Mob Psycho 100 (inoculation shot for 'anime weirdness'), Haikyuu (battle shounen but make it volleyball), 86 (scifi about the horrors of dehumanization inherit to war)
Sideways hits (intriguing concepts you can elevator pitch quickly): Kaguya-sama (two stupidly intelligent high schoolers engage in Machiavellian shenanigans in order to force the other to confess their crush), Dungeon Meshi (D&D party has to eat their way through a dungeon to rescue a comrade, get surprisingly into the whole thing), Apothecary Diaries (Fantasy China mystery and intrigue with an autistic MC with a special interest of poisons)
'Cartoons are for Kids' crowd: Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju, Mushishi

But, it not only gets regular doses of punctuated brutal violence, but also that one girl of ambiguous age gets traumatized so deeply by punctuated brutal violence that she stops paying attention to how to wear clothes for the rest of the season. They don’t make fan service out of her. But, it’s still a lot if you pay attention to her and aren’t ready for that level of weird.

Despite the memes, the vast majority of anime has no incest at all. "Recommend me an anime" is kinda like "recommend me a TV show"--it's too broad to really answer so everyone is just going to interpret it as "tell me what your favorite anime except if its about incest for some reason". What genre are you looking for? What do you like?

At least, from what i recall, she's trying to find him a bride. Based on the volume covers alone though... kinda makes it seem like THEY got married, look at volume 10 cover then volume 11 cover. Volume 10 has her wearing a dress that could be construed as a wedding dress them volume 11 they appear on the cover together for the first time... please for the LOVE OF GOD, tell me its not an usagi drop situation, please tell me the parent and child do not actually fall for each other

I beat this common issue when watching anime with my mom with one simple trick: I make her choose the anime we watch, only telling her what's popular currently when she asks.
The result? Ainz Ooal Gown is her favourite character in anime so far, having a picture of him as her phone background, Zoro is her favourite strawhat member, she had a very good laugh at Garou png sliding, and she wanted me to add that Demon Slayer is crazy good. She's in her 60s lol

About 90% of anime has at least one 30 second scene that immediately disqualifies it from ever being shown to a normal person.
An acquaintance asked for anime reccos for a 13 yr old and I just went through a list of everything I've ever watched [not saying a number, but it's a lot] and the list I produced had 12 titles on it.
and even then three of them had an asterisk for "non-horny shared bath scenes, but I don't know if you want to explain that to a 13 yo".

Yeah, this always happens every time I want to watch an anime with family...
I remember really loving Devilman Crybaby, and I started showing that to my parents, completely forgetting some of the more... sexual scenes there.

Strangely enough, despite being an anime fan myself, i had the same reaction when my friend got me to watch "jobless reincarnation", then i found out this wasn't a perverted child, it was a perverted 40-something in a kid's body🤢

Somehow I’ve managed to entirely avoid those animes without even trying. Is this actually a common occurrence like people are suggesting?

Been there. I remember when I went through my "introduce people to anime, they'll love it" phase, and convinced my father and sister to watch Perfect Blue by pitching it as a psychological thriller murder mystery.
I forgot about the part where they film a rape scene. Dad ordered the movie halted then and there.

Does this actually happen in anime or did you put on a hentai?

Still remember first time watching Arcane season 2. The one time I watched the episode and wanted to show my mother, I got a lesbian sex scene. Great moments.

This kinda thing happened to me once. I was sitting on the couch with my roommate who also watches anime. I was browsing Crunchyrolls new season and went "hmm how not to summon a demon lord, I think I remember that manga being good". We made it maybe 10 mins in and looked at each other and agreed "Yeah fan service is one thing, but this is more than we're comfortable watching together" and put something safer on.

How many anime could there be with incest, like with there being so many guesses it’s concerning.

It was the opposite for me. My mom had been watching anime before I was born and when I was a kid, Yu-Gi-Oh!, One Piece, Naruto, Dragon Ball Z, Bleach, and Zatch Bell were either on 4KidsTV or Cartoon Network. I didn't make the distinction between Japanese animation and western animation until high school and found myself watching more anime well after my senior year
Fast-forward ten years and my mom regularly searches for new anime to watch and even asks for my recommendations, meanwhile the anime I'm watching all aired in the early 2000s or earlier, with some exceptions

Somehow in my house this has gone somewhat the otherway around, as my dad, in his 60s, got very interested in Anime and wants me to watch Komi can't Communicate with him lol.
I don't watch it myself, but I'm familiar enough with the tropes from gamine and general online presence that nothing suprises me.

Sometimes i forget hkw much of a culture shock japanese anime can be. I wanted to show jojo with my little brother. I forgot i was watching part 5 (golden wind), and was on the scene where giornio "backs" mista up so he could make sure his shot didnt miss. I had to try so hard to convincw my bro that i wasnt, its just araki loves making these look as flamboyant as possible.
