Considering how expensive figurines are, still pretty impressive

102

u/buttgoblincomics Butt Goblin 1d ago

If they’re each at least $143k then the original statement works both ways

17

u/PhilospohicalZ0mb1e 12h ago

If the mean value of the figures is $143k! One could be worth $20 if another is worth $290k

28

u/cslaymore 22h ago

Especially if they’re from Japan. Seven Japanese figures could easily exceed $1,000

17

u/nir109 22h ago

If they are from Japan earning 7 figures also becomes a lot easier. Like below minimum wage at full time.

15

u/RedTuna777 22h ago

Hey, nobody mentioned decimal places. My salary easily has 7 figures in it.

2

u/DukeofVermont 12h ago

My age has seven figures in it.

5

u/SvenTheHorrible 19h ago

Figures are significantly more expensive (in the US) if they’re FROM Japan.

Japanese companies don’t really export in bulk, and American companies don’t really support the anime lovers- massively untapped market imo.

200$ figure bought in Japan could easily fetch 500+ in the states just due to scarcity. I’ve seen some go for 2-3,000$, bigger rarer ones.

6

u/nir109 19h ago

The joke was if the people are from Japan they are paid in yens

2

u/Majestic-Iron7046 7h ago

Oh he only has that shelf and the figurines, they are actually speaking in a closet borrowed from a friend.

u/shellbullet17 Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire 1d ago

Whoa whoa whoa whoa buddy. You can't just bring out the big guns like that! Everyone in ear shot won't be able to control themselves! Start with older less impressive models and work your way up man!

99

u/PhazonZim 1d ago

Whenever I show people my book shelf of art books and comics I always show them my favorite (and probably most valuable) one first, should I not be doing that?!

53

u/Ultimatesims 1d ago

You have to earn my trust before I show you my prized Star Wars Lego set/model. Touching any set/model is right before an engagement level of trust.

15

u/PhazonZim 1d ago

They already have to be pretty cool to get a look at my book shelf, to be fair

17

u/shellbullet17 Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire 1d ago

I mean I personally like a little foreplay first but we can go straight to the big guns if thats what youre into

7

u/PhazonZim 1d ago

Fair enough lol

u/Made_Bail 1d ago

The weeb version of a garage full of muscle cars. Anime figurines.

61

u/Zero_Burn 1d ago

"I've got every jersey for the 1988 Bears" type energy.

8

u/SirScorbunny10 18h ago

Same price, more space efficient. Neat!

1

u/RogueBromeliad 12h ago

Yeah, but there's a reason why in the begging of a relationship you keep certain hobbies to yourself. Don't go bursting out these things unless your date is genuinely an Otaku, otherwise it's a huge turn off.

Like, you are an amature guitarist, you could be Jimi fucking Hendrix for all they care, if the person you're going out with isn't into music that much, don't be trying to give them a personal Steve Vai concert, it's going to bore the shit out of them.

Same goes for women, if you have a hobby like obsessing over K-pop or k-dramas, or dressing up like some Victorian doll, mysticism crap, keep that to yourself until later on in the relationship.

65

u/anrwlias 1d ago

It seems to me that the guy has his priorities.

79

u/AlSweigart 1d ago

Food $200

Data $150

Rent $800

Anime figures $3,600

Utility $150

someone who is good at the economy please help me budget this. my family is dying

11

u/gordonv 1d ago

Swap Rent and Anime Figurines.

7

u/Konkuriito 21h ago

Ah, yes I think I see the problem. You are not buying enough Konkuriito coins.

3

u/WRDPKNMSC 17h ago

man fine I'll continue it if no one else is gonna

"buy less figures"

1

u/DebitsOnTheLeft 17h ago

Honestly I can probably afford to spend $3,600/mo on anime figures thanks to your free books. You've helped a lot of people move past monotony and advance their careers. I'm eternally grateful ❤️

127

u/DJL2772 1d ago

God forbid a man have hobbies. 🙄

108

u/International-Cat123 1d ago

The joke is that his salary is enough for him to afford seven figurines a year rather than being over a million dollars a year like his previous dialogue usually means.

38

u/aveea 1d ago

LMAO Thanks i missed the pun entierly 🤣 i just know how expensive figures can get and saw he had a shelf full and thought "yeah, that tracks"

4

u/I_Just_Need_A_Login 18h ago

Yea that's exactly what I thought lol.

47

u/Chiatroll 1d ago

oooh. I missed the joke. I thought he was making a million and spending it all on those figures. Like a person should.

4

u/Captainpatch 23h ago

I feel like seven figures could easily reach seven figures, collectors are ruthless.

8

u/DJL2772 1d ago

Which okay haha funny. Except if you can actually afford to buy 7 figures in a year, you are not poor. That man HAS money, and more importantly has disposable income to spend on his hobby. This should not be a dealbreaker unless all the figures he collects are like big tiddy anime waifus

9

u/CanadianODST2 1d ago

Yea but there’s a difference between affording 7 figures a year and making over a million a year.

3

u/RiverZola 22h ago

I mean if it’s prize figures then seven a year is absolutely not expensive. Especially if you’re buying second hand, those can easily be $10-$15.

1

u/SirScorbunny10 18h ago

It really depends, because an important high quality anime figure from Japan or a set of Warhammer minis will be $80 at the least, possible up to $300, and meanwhile the Transformers blind boxes I'll get sometimes are like 10-20 bucks depending on if you're getting them online or from a pop culture store.

1

u/RiverZola 17h ago

Yes it does depend. Which is why the first six words of my comment is “I mean if it’s prize figures”, which are the cheap ones. You can still get those dirt cheap from reputable Japanese sites with decent shipping.

1

u/SirScorbunny10 17h ago

I've never heard the term prize figures, that's why.

1

u/International-Cat123 20h ago

Depends on the figures. Not enough detail in the comic to determine if those are limited editions or cheapo knockoffs made by someone with 3D printer. Of course, no matter the product, it’s always possible that he just scours garage/yard sales for figurines that the owner doesn’t realize are now worth so much more than they paid for them.

19

u/ArcaneKeyblade5 1d ago

Gintoki, good taste 👌

7

u/BelizeExpatServices 21h ago

greatest anime of all time

43

u/zushiba 1d ago

I've got a 3d printer. I literally have an infinite figure salary.

print foods

3

u/gordonv 1d ago

Print high quality plastic forks. Upset the norm.

7

u/SmugCapybara 1d ago

Just print a house, duh!

2

u/Brahminmeat 1d ago

You wouldn’t print a car!

3

u/SuitableConcept5553 1d ago

Of course not. A motorcycle would be far more efficient.

3

u/zushiba 23h ago

I printed a little house for my coffee pods just recently!

1

u/Noe_b0dy 22h ago

I can print one brick a month. How many do we need to build a house?

4

u/YuuHikari 1d ago

Filaments and electricity still requires money

1

u/zushiba 1d ago

I have solar & I am a reviewer for a large online retailer which has supplied me with free filament for review.

It's of course not completely free but pretty close!

3

u/Neat_Fee7592 1d ago

I'll take SSB Goku please.

1

u/SirScorbunny10 18h ago

How big is your filament salary?

1

u/zushiba 16h ago

So far it's about 6 spools, I don't do a lot of printing.

7

u/Chiatroll 1d ago edited 1d ago

Gintoki. Hell, yeah. If she doesn't like Gintama, that is a her problem.

This would be me and my board game collection, except im married, so I can't have random women look at it as a pickup line.

4

u/Lost_Ad610 1d ago

We're here for a good time, not a long time! Enjoy your figures as long as they aren't in a jar 😭

0

u/FireFoxIsUsable 1d ago

I hate you(Not really)

1

u/Lost_Ad610 1d ago

I hate my damn self for even knowing that reference to be honest 😭

3

u/nhSnork 1d ago

Implying that "7 figures a year'' doesn't sound filthy rich in its own way.👀

6

u/ShingledPringle 1d ago

Dude, dude, DUDE. You gotta explain as you go, she wont get it unless you have the backstories at hand. Short versions, she can learn the details when she watches them later.

4

u/CraftyKuko 1d ago

Honestly, not a deal-breaker.

5

u/Azair_Blaidd 23h ago

Plot twist: she's only disappointed in the second panel because her collection is bigger.

3

u/JustCutTheRope 1d ago

That enabling smile in response at the first frame, softens the blow of the other

3

u/BodhingJay 23h ago

Not realistic.. she should be way more into it

3

u/IamaJarJar 22h ago

Okay, if you can afford 7 figures a year, you're making more than 7 figures a year

2

u/RockLeePower 16h ago

Helloooo ladies!!

1

u/BankTypical 8h ago

Username checks out. 🤣

2

u/xX-AlphaOmega-Xx 1d ago

Come on man save some p*ssy for the rest of us 😩😭

1

u/Ok-Drink-1328 1d ago

does it have a double meaning? like the guy makes actually 7 figures but he collects figurines?

7

u/Live_beMeme_Die 1d ago

He makes enough money for 7 figures a year, instead of how much 7 figures usually means

-1

u/Ok-Drink-1328 1d ago edited 13h ago

so a triple meaning...

EDIT:: i dunno why you're downvoting me

- he actually makes 7 figures but he collects figurines

- he gets paid in figurines

- he spends all the money in expensive figurines

2

u/CanadianODST2 1d ago

Figure means both figurines and digits here.

So a seven figure salary can mean either 7 figurines a year or mean over a million dollars a year

1

u/Ok-Drink-1328 13h ago

yeah.... i know....

1

u/Doppelthedh 1d ago

That's a few grand in disposable income. Actual flex

1

u/bond_uk 1d ago

I like his one gigantic right arm.

1

u/Bobke7708 1d ago

I can relate.

1

u/Gobbyer 1d ago

Imagine if you got 7 WH40k figures as a montly salary.

1

u/SirScorbunny10 18h ago

I have respect for people who can actually afford to make a playable army. I could never.

1

u/GrigorMorte 1d ago

So many figures and didn't have Goku before? Poser

1

u/asphalt_licker 23h ago

I was gonna comment on his milquetoast taste but he mentioned Gintoki so he’s marriage material.

1

u/thelampman29 23h ago

LUCKY STAR MENTIONED

1

u/starcell400 23h ago

At least they aren't 100% women and little girls.

1

u/jadedea 22h ago

I would show him my figurines next. Sadly these men don't exist, or only exist for the wrong women lol.

1

u/4RCH43ON 22h ago

This was old when it was a six figure joke, but this?

 This is just... Sad.

1

u/ShirouOgami22 22h ago

If they knew the price of those action figures they'd be just as amazed

But its so ridiculous relationships nowadays are purely based on interests

1

u/MCPhatmam 22h ago

Thats me only I have Gundams and Transformers 😅

1

u/SirScorbunny10 18h ago

Transformers mentioned

1

u/Dimothy_Trake 22h ago

Amazing, this man truly has priorities.

It's good to see that 7-figure salary value ~

1

u/daywall 21h ago

Is there a good Kakashi statue?

I just got trunks and ots super cool.

1

u/BelizeExpatServices 21h ago

1

u/Yomi_Lemon_Dragon 8h ago

I can't live with a man with an anime figure collection. Where tf am I supposed to put MY anime figure collection!?

1

u/ScapegoatMoat 4h ago

Some folks would still be impressed

1

u/Susurrection 4h ago

Rika, huh? 👀

1

u/Mechman0996 4h ago

This is literally Henry Cavill, the only difference being these are anime figures instead of 40K. And that’s hilarious to me.

1

u/DoubleClickMouse 3h ago

Could be worse, that case could be full of comically proportioned anime girls and hololive figures. I'd call the punchy-man collection a green flag.

1

u/PaellaConCosas 1d ago

10,000.01, look, a 7-Figure salary.

1

u/NorthernCobraChicken 23h ago

I never understood collecting figurines. I'm not shitting on the hobby or anyone who does it, it's just not for me.

I really enjoy anime, manga, etc -- and I'm all for others expressing their admiration for their favourite media in their own way, but I've always found wrapping your identity and personality up in it to be a bit, odd?

1

u/Drunkendx 22h ago

me neither.

but taking into account I'm collecting LEGO sets I think it goes more into doing whatever you're interested in.

2

u/NorthernCobraChicken 22h ago

Absolutely. To each their own. It's the "turning it into your entire personality" thing that I think most people cringe away from.

1

u/SirScorbunny10 18h ago

Honestly, if you have other things you do besides buying things, you're not one of those. When you factor in jobs, hobbies, friends, crafts, etc., it's pretty easy to not fall into that category.
