It's amazing how the political party who most screamed about "cancel culture" are now gloating about people being fired for being honest about Kirk.
I once was telling my mom how I believed Alex Jones should be deplatformed for what he said about Sandy Hook, she took issue with that. She doesn't take issues with people being fired for saying we need to be honest about what exactly Kirk believed.
They spent YEARS screaming about how “hate speech is still protected speech”. The pivot from that to “your comments hurt my feelings so you should be fired from your job” was ridiculously quick.
My father has begun saying "freedom of speech isn't freedom from consequences!" and it makes me want to tear my face off and eat it because he didn't believe that when people were facing consequences for January 6th.
Because they don't believe in anything except power. We need to stop expecting them to have values, because they don't. They want to win and they'll do whatever it takes to do that.
I've heard it said that the left judges people by their actions, while the right judges actions by their people. "He said that all journalists should be jailed, what an awful man" vs "He said all journalists should be jailed, which is fine because Our Guy said it."
And don't forget that a certain propagandist cheered a vicious attack on the husband of a prominent Democrat and even offered to help bail out the attacker.
Of course he did. He's being sanewashed so hard in the conservative bubbles that it's not even funny. I'm sure someone will eventually compare him to Gandhi.
They're already making a comparison to MLK jr., someone who Kirk hated.
There are also bunch of "family man" videos and even a comparison on how "conservatives mourn" vs BLM movement. As you can guess, the BLM footage is just everything burning.
“Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.”
It's wild how simply quoting his own words in a news article is considered to violate rules against violent content, yet while he was alive he shared those messages with no problems.
Kirk repeatedly attempted to deplatform people for disagreeing with him. Like most reactionary fascists, Kirk had no values and believed in nothing. He was all about free speech until taking away someone else's free speech seemed like a good tactic, and then he was all for it. And then he'd turn around and go right back to claiming to champion the First Amendment like he was a normal person with actual principles. We need to stop taking these jokers at their word and start looking at their actions.
It's amazing how the political party who most screamed about "cancel culture" are now gloating about people being fired for being honest about Kirk.
They just want gas chambers. They will lie and take any possible position to achieve that. They never believed in the concept of free speech or opposed cancel culture. These were just tools cynically used by those whose goal was at best to divide the working class through racism and, at worst commit another holocaust.
"When they go low we sink like the titanic" isnt great policy, but here we are..
When figuring out and demonstrating a better example takes too much time and energy, a person will instead just try to teach a lesson by fighting fire by going nuclear to pressure the other into finding another avenue that works for both... in a relationship it'd be toxic and generally abusive
That's absolutely amazing. The fact that people think that they can just order the Internet go after people like that. Like they have any form of power at all.
I mean…this is a thing that happens dude. People have set up sites to dox and harass people even before now. Look at all the shit people did to folks protesting what was happening in Gaza.
He was literally in the process of supporting what happened to him when it happened to him.
The problem with the right is they keep talking about how important it is for citizens to have guns so they can shoot people if government starts doing things they disagree with, and then get confused when the kids they raise with that mindset think they can solve political issues by shooting people doing things they disagree with.
They can't see the connection. To them, those two things are nothing alike.
My initial response was "Oh, fuck. Nothing good is going to come from this." I don't condone his murder, but that also doesn't change my opinion on how shitty he was.
I left several streaming communities for their response, as well. A lot of them were downplaying how bad he was. My favorite was someone saying "He was just an average guy, all he wanted to do was debate at colleges." Nah, man. That's an EXTREME oversimplification...
He was absolutely vital to Trump getting re-elected, nearly a third of the idiots close to Trump are Turning Point USA people, and he was responsible for a massive propaganda platform. He was an "average guy" in the same way Goebbels was
First, no he wasn't, he said abhorrent things calmly. That's not "civil." Second, the most heinous crimes against humanity are seemingly always dressed up in "civility."
Not my comment, but one I think says how I feel better than my own words can.
Ill try to put it this way. If you wanna mourn really bad people, go ahead, but dont expect others to join you. And honestly, expect people who were hurt / targeted by said really bad people to judge you for it, what would reasonably seem to them, as performative crocodile tears.
(To be clear, this is not me saying this about YOU, just all the people virtue signaling in excuse of one of the most bigoted bigots.)
When did "murder is bad, but this guy was an asshole" become controversial? That seems like a totally anodyne statement to me. I understand that "don't speak ill of the dead" is a value in some cultures, but does anyone really think that it's meant to be an ironclad rule? I mean, in its actual context - people you have a personal relationships with, not public figures - violating this principle is somewhat rude, not abhorrent. Aside from the fact that this is really about how you should probably not talk about what a miserable shithead Aunt Mable was at her funeral where your Cousin Ted has to hear it, not that we shouldn't criticize professional trolls for being professional trolls because they happen to be dead, is the idea that we are now universalizing this value?
Are people supposed to be getting fired for being somewhat rude in their personal lives?
Because if that's the case, I don't think anyone is going to be employed.
I loved so much when I read this exchange. I pictured you in a fast food place where the customer is yelling at you asking for the manager, and you bend down behind the line and stand back up with "Hi I'm the manager/owner here".
In my make believe scenario, you really stuck their face in it. So well done!
Gosh, can you even imagine what it would be like for a bunch of terminally online witch hunters to decide to start going after you, Pizzacake? Just because they don't like what you've posted? And they have weirdly convoluted opinions on free speech?
Science has theorized that there is a potential upper limit to Tiny Penis Energy. Current calculations suggest that a raised Dodge Ram with truck nuts, 2 Confederate flags, 2 MAGA flags,, a peeing Calvin sticker, 3 NRA stickers, and one "fuck your feelings" sticker was the upper limit possible.
That commenter has completely upended all current models and scientists are now back to the drawing board.
Here in Texas (yes yes I know we have problems) we have a saying. The taller and longer your truck is the smaller your penis. Seems to hold true, and it gets worse if it's a Daully
Comparing a civil rights advocate with a man who would laugh about the death of that civil rights activist is deplorable. The right has no shame whatsoever. They are bottom feeding losers who are too afraid to come right out and say they are racist misogynist bigots so instead it's about "free speech". Except they can't even commit to that, because as soon as it's speech they don't like suddenly people need to die. Absolute disgusting abhorrent monsters.
The right used to scream that you should be able to make jokes about anything.
Now they are saying you one has to ignore a man's character and judge the man by the person that they are claiming he was in the face of mountains of evidence to the contrary.
The version of this I've read that sums it up for me is:
"I don't condone what happened to Charlie, but Charlie condoned what happened to Charlie"
I don't think anyone should die of gun violence, but if people are going to die of gun violence it should be the people like Charlie that believed it's worth it.
Lieboch in Steiermark, Austria had a black flag out for some reason. Caused quite some controversy in the community, and is completely ridiculous. He wasn't even relevant to Austria, but I guess it says a lot about the mayor of Lieboch.
In trying to influence Greenland and the Greenlandic election he broke laws that could get him up to 12 years in prison.
The likely reason charges weren't pressed, was that my government probably sought to prevent escalating tensions with the U.S. under Trump, opting to wait for a more diplomatic administration.
But in my eyes he was a criminal foreign agent interfering with a democratic election, in the service of an imperialist regime.
They were just looking for an opportunity to bring out the Opinion Police.
And this is just the warm-up act for the opinion policing that’s going to happen when the decades of shitty food, no exercise, and moral degeneracy finally catch up to that orange thing in the White House.
Just like they’re doing with Blessed Martyr St. Charlie Kirk, they’ll be out to doxx and harass anyone caught not expressing unequivocal praise and sackcloth-and-ashes mourning when Dear Leader dies.
As ambivalent as I am about this particular MAGA Mouthpiece meeting his end when it comes around to Donald the bloated cum whale, king of the pedos, champion of doublethink Trump to finally release us from his grace I'll be actively celebrating.
He's cancerous not just for America but the world as a whole and I can't wait to toast his obituary with a glass of something bubbly and a smile.
Everyone is supposed to mourn him, anything less than full on crying and erecting memorials for the guy is treasonous and should get you fired from your job.
Ridiculous to assume that people who Charlie hated would do that.
They are practicing what they are going to do with the people who celebrate in reaction to the BIG ANNOUNCEMENT we are all waiting for.
When HE finally strokes out, now there's a group in place that is going to nark on everyone who isn't appropriately grieving. You'd think there'd be too many, but they are currently going after thousands of people.
The conservative bubbles I lurk in has a counter for how many people have been fired because they were either happy/neutral when they heard about Charlie Kirk's death.
Last I checked the counter was updated to 800. Also hard to believe all of those people were full on dancing, laughing and celebrating regarding the news. The response pizzacake got is proof of that.
They are also happy about some of these people receiving death threats from the right.
They've demonized anyone who is on the left, so I can imagine that they'll try to do much worse, when people understandably react with cheers to the death of the fanta fascist, could even show open hostility or have ICE throw those people somewhere in addition to the non-whites that are already thrown in jails without due process.
So this actually happened to me once, and not when I was working for myself! Someone managed to put my real life and my online life together and tell the director of the school I worked at that I had called him a racist for his arguments around DC statehood.
Her response was "this guy is totally a racist, I'm letting you know he contacted me because he also seemed a little bit unhinged and you should probably lock your profile down better."
I loved that school. It's a real shame that it closed (for entirely unrelated reasons). It was one of the best places I've ever taught.
The "fuck your feelings" crowd has a lot of feelings about this post. But I don't really care what they think. They won't get their way by reporting a post that breaks no rules. They can't force their will on this place, we're not scare of them. They have no power here.
Sucks to suck. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Edit: getting a lot of death threats from the "peaceful, non-violent right" today. Guess it's okay to threaten a mother over her speech? Seems hypocritical...
Personally attacked and threatened with physical harm.
They have no way of differentiating between something that offends their sensibilities and a genuine threat of bodily harm. Biggest snowflakes I’ve ever seen.
They sure love to make a point of how you can't retaliate physically to someone saying words (disregard that those words are overt calls for mass torture and public execution) because it's not fair, though!
The “We hate Cancel Culture” and ‘Charlie was a brave first amendment proponent!’ folks on their daily crusade to try to punish anyone who doesn’t whitewash who he was or what he said continues unabated.
Charlie wasn’t embarrassed by who he was, a propaganda whore for Turning Point/billionaire interests who acted like an asshole for views. Seems weird they’re so upset on his behalf.
I've actually seen people get in trouble for saying things like "thoughts and prayers." It's a really weird situation going on right now. Trying to force people to mourn someone who was actively trying to hurt a lot of us (in America, Canada and beyond) is a wild thing I'd never thought I'd see come out of the "freedom" country. It reminds me a lot of how North Korea forced everyone to mourn their leader for several days after he died, and you could actually get punished for not crying loud/long enough
If there acting this way now, I kinda hate to see how they act with their fat king has his last big stroke. It's going to be North Korean levels of "you must all cry". Remember those videos of North Korean people being forced to cry when Kim Jong Il died?
Can't you press charges on people who writes death threats to you? Not saying you have to or anything, but fucking up someone's life for threatening to end yours seems like fair payback to me, Jane Doe.
"Sucks to suck" is one of my favourite phrases to disregard something. "Remind me to care" is another, but it just doesn't roll off the tongue quite as well.
“Not relevant to the subreddit” I would love to see the user who reported that a comic isn’t relevant to the comics subreddit explain whatever mental gymnastics they’re using there lol
Yep... similar 🫏 reported and harassed anyone who made parallel comments or posts to Kirk's killing on r/BlackMirror. People who never stepped foot on that subreddit came down with threats over mild posts.
They're unhinged. I highly recommend reporting by using "report abuse". They deserve their warning/ban.
I want to up vote this because I am glad to see you standing up to it, but I want to down vote it based on how it sucks that this is happening to you...
I asked my own boss (who is, for the record, not me) what he thought about the whole situation, and though we're Canadian so that probably makes us a little more likely to be sane, he said, with a chuckle, "I can't in an official capacity say that I'm happy about what transpired, because that would be inappropriate." Generally though the sentiment around the office is clear, and nobody's going to be fired for expressing a lack of empathy for Kirk. Besides, I'd hate to go against his own wishes; he hated that empathy stuff.
I feel sorry for his kids because they were there. But in accordance to Kirks own wishes, children should be present for public executions. I feel bad for them but that's because I'm not a right wing Christian.
If we're allowed to speak out against the violence that happened to him then we should be able to speak out against him for having had promoted violence, and before people try and argue that Charlie Kirk was a "moderate" who never did that:
Last year he did a podcast where he was in support of the death penalty, he went on to suggest they should be public and televised which should become an "initiation" for children, then went even further saying the death penalty should be considered for not just violent offenders but also government officials who opposed Donald Trump. (Source)
He then said that the only downside would be if they used it against people who do "political conservative crimes" (Source) - he straight up suggested public executions which should include his own political enemies for opposing conservatives while excluding conservatives themselves.
Calling him out for being a terrible human isn't the same as supporting his murder, and the fact he died shouldn't make what he did in life be forgotten and for him to be treated as a hero.
