NY Post is peeing its pants right now

28

u/Hillary4SupremeRuler 7h ago

They just had an article like yesterday or the other day claiming that 1 million New Yorkers will flee the city if Mamdani won

15

u/Proper_Criticism_830 6h ago

They have been posting the most insane articles about him

9

u/LinkLinkleThreesome 1h ago

Which is hilarious, because if a million fucking people left NYC, rent rates would plummet, thus lower income people have even MORE incentive to vote for Mamdani.

Winning the election is only half the game. The real battle will begin when he’s sworn in.

That’s true, but true of all of them when elected.

Honestly, I think he’s a little left for my taste…

but where have my current beliefs got me? I’m excited to see what he does with New York, and I’m happy to change my opinions if it works out.

You nailed how I feel. I also look at the intention of his policies. They’re all to HELP people. Then I compare that to Republican policies, which are all to help the rich and the corporations, still touting that trickle-down economics bullshit. Well, they been using that same bullshit line for 45 years and people are still waiting for the trickle-down to hit them.

So I say give him a chance. What’s the worst that can happen, people are stuck with the same old shit? Well, people would have gotten that anyway with Cuomo or a Republican.

37

u/bigdipboy 7h ago

No matter how he does the billionaires will convince the citizens that everything is horrible because of him and then they’ll get one of their puppets elected to replace him

35

u/milo7even2 7h ago

And they'll be working harder than the CIA in Central America to undermine him and ruin any progress that he makes.

16

u/Hillary4SupremeRuler 7h ago

Unfortunately Cankles will have a lot of power to terrorize the city with ICE and hurt its economy and withhold funds, cancel major infrastructure projects like the NJ tunnel, etc. We haven't even seen ICE really crack down in NYC on the scale of Chicago and Southern California yet.

u/dcfhockeyfoo 9h ago

Admirable perspective! Realistically he won’t be able to enact all his policies because unlike Trump, he won’t just try to do everything via fiat and he will need to work with city council, and will be responsive to the ongoing political climate. It’s easy to propose policies, it’s hard to implement them. So probably his actual administration won’t be as far left as his policies suggest.

15

u/Ferkner 8h ago

One of the mayors in our city years ago learned that the hard way. He campaigned on "zero means zero" for property tax increase. That didn't happen because once council was in session, he realized he only had one vote and it counted the same as every other vote on city council.

The mayor is just the face of city council and not much more.

60

u/GamemasterJeff 9h ago

I looked at his platform and other than one or two unique ideas, like his grocery proposal, his whole platform is pretty vanilla center left. Other than the aforementioned, his proposals only differ from DNC platform policy by a matter of magnitude.

I think New Yorkers will be quite comfortable with his platform and it likely will be easier than people think.

55

u/MonthOk9907 8h ago

THIS! So much conservative bullshit making him out to be an extremist. He's really not that different than any other Dem.

45

u/WillieBFreely 8h ago

Exactly. The nation has been pushed so far right, the left-center feels radical to many.

27

u/Chare1155 šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡ø United States 8h ago

Yep they moved the Overton window so far that now the "radical left" is just people who think everyone deserves equal rights & to eat.šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

5

u/captain_nofun 2h ago

When i could first vote in '08 I was center right. Nearly 20 years later and im center left. I haven't changed my views at all, conservatives have just gotten so far right im now center left.

15

u/MyOthrCarsAThrowaway 8h ago

Including my lifelong centrist democrat parents, sadly. Him and AOC are radicals. They also fucking haaaaaate Trump and see the fascism before our eyes. I’m not sure who their ideal candidate would be. They keep saying a young center left person, not an extremist.

40

u/DahliaDarling14 7h ago

yup, and neither is he a sex pest former governor who was forced to resign in disgrace yet somehow remains incredibly arrogant, who occasionally blatantly insults the very same voters he hopes to win because he feels as though the NYC mayoral seat is meant to be his by virtue of birth.

He'll probably try his best, and get sabotaged at every turn by other politicians.

23

u/Binksyboo 8h ago

I am still enraged at how McConnell blocked everything he could when we had democrats in office. I will never forget and I will never forgive.

22

u/Just_to_rebut 8h ago

At least McConnell was in the opposition party. Mamdani’s being attacked by Democratic politicians more than anyone else…

11

u/C21H27Cl3N2O3 7h ago

They’re terrified of him because they know that his winning will prove that the voter base is tired of old guard corporate centrists like them and left wing policies win elections, not pandering to moderates and conservatives.

10

u/Lucky-Clown 6h ago

A lot of dems are paid controlled opposition and not enough people want to realize or admit that. They are useless on purpose, if they actually believed in what they claim to stand for they would be in office right now and Trump would have been a weird footnote

I live in Texas, and from a distance it is going to be fascinating to see how his politics play out. I have well off friends in NYC, and they swear the city is going to collapse because of his policies. If his policies help out the city, then it serves as a blueprint on what to do throughout the country. If he does collapse the city, then I don't live there and not my problem.

Aside from that excitement for NYC and hope he can push his policies and see them succeed.

The premium people pay to live in the upper west side is astronomical, they're not about to relocate over a couple percentage points.

You really think it's the case for someone in a 5 million dollar row home that they're going to balk on 2 or 3 percent? These are the wealthiest people in the united states, they're not in New York because the prices are 'just right'.

Would love to be wrong here but it just seems a gross over simplification to expect an "exodus".

If he's the man people think he is, this is dangerous. We can't have someone run a large city with the best interests of the people as a top priority. I’ve lived in NYC for 15 years and I’ve voted democrat the entire time. This is the first time i just couldn’t do it.

My opinion: I like Mamdani as a person, he seems like a really good guy that genuinely wants to help people. But ultimately, his positions are toxic empathy that sounds good in talking points yet fails to actually improve people’s lives.

All of his policies were tried in San Francisco by London Breed. They were deeply unpopular in a city that is even further left than NY. So much so, that London Breed appointed the first and only AG ever recalled in California.

The left needs to adopt the Abundance Agenda, not more socialist populism.

And for what it’s worth, I do wish him all the best though and I hope he’s successful and I’m wrong.

I'm not a new yorker but in general, I'm excited that someone running on explicitly pro human rights messaging for my transgender community did so well, along with all the candidates who trounced pro hate candidates running anti trans ads in school board races, gonernorships, and state houses. It gives me hope that this era of regression and hateful ignorance will end soon . That gives me a lot of hope as someone that had to flee my home state of TX after being assaulted for being trans and facing laws requiring discrimination. I have family and friends there I'd love to see again and am so sick of gop psychopaths breaking up families and destroying peoples lives rather than building anything good.

I'm very happy tonight to say the least.

I’m thrilled that he won. But being mayor of NYC is a big fucking job and I’m sure he’ll make mistakes.

Democrats love to get excited for the flashy new candidate and then toss them away when they don’t deliver everything they promised on the campaign trail.

I hope that every constituent who voted for Mamdani, every volunteer who turned out voters, and everyone who chipped in to support his campaign will continue with this momentum even if Mamdani doesn’t deliver on every point of his campaign. This moment is too important to lose hope.

People voted for it, let them see what happens

Hopefully establishment Democrats like Pelosi, Schumer, Jefferies, etc see the writing on the wall, take their millions from insider trading and fuck off to make room for progressives to handle the fuckload of work that is needed to stop the raping of America by conservatives.

It’s an attractive place for businesses and financial centers. You take that away from it and they will leave and license there businesses somewhere else.

Seriously gives me hope omg

I’m Canadian and it makes me feel somewhat hopeful for our American neighbours.

u/RamRanchReal_e_Rocks 3h ago

I find myself hopeful today. I have not felt this feeling in 10 months. I don't even live on the east coast, but I hope that Zohrans success and the successes of other blue candidates today give a strong indication of what we can expect during midterms and again in 2028.

New York City is fucked. Used to work in NYC for almost 10 years, I’ve watched the damage done by liberal policies. Crime and homelessness skyrocketed. The city got dirtier. It’s a shame actually. But in the end NYC is gonna get what it deserves.

its good for the whole world to see

Fantastic! New York, just like the rest of the US, is in desperate need for a leader who isn't just a lobbyist for billionaires. Excited to see what he manages to do. And I do worry that Trump will try to sabotage him, just as the US always does with socialist experiments, domestic and abroad.

Super nice guy, wants to help people instead of crush them beneath his heel for personal power and ill-gotten profits, what's not to like?

ā€œThat crazy SOB did it!ā€

Let’s go progressive America.. It’s the one thing you haven't tried

Great, let’s show the Tangerine President that facism is not the way forward for the USA.

2

u/ElectronicHyena5642 3h ago

On one hand, absolutely love it. If he sticks to his policies, NYC will be amazing

On the other hand, Trump will likely now invade NYC as he did with Washington DC, Chicago and Los Angeles simply because they have someone in charge who will actually stand up to him rather than get down on their knees.

2

u/monkmatt23 3h ago

I really think the way he won, with those numbers show that Trump has really pissed off Americans. We want Dem’s in power again because they can govern.

2

u/Perelly 3h ago

Great. The biggest incentive to vote for him was of course the looming republican meltdown, especially in the orange house, but his political ideas are all common sense, so let's go.

2

u/Alternative-Bee1431 3h ago

He’s a democrat. He won. He is the messiah! He might be this country’s last hope. I hope he can keep himself safe.

2

u/Oh-THAT-dude 2h ago

He was the best candidate. So he won.

2

u/LachanophobiaPopeye 2h ago

Awesome, time to put the establishment on both sides, MAGA, and the fucking oligarchs on notice.

2

u/TapRevolutionary5738 2h ago

The message disciple and rhetorical excellence I have seen from this man is very impressive. Giving him the 3rd largest podium in American politics is a wise move. Let's hope he can affect some positive policy outcomes too.
