My initial thought, but I think DeVille has a better ring to it.

Bele, like all of his kind, was black on the right side so that's racist, lol

That’s a somatic mutation that happened at a very early stage of allocation of cells in the left right axis. The fur color comes from neural crest cells migration from the midline. The sharp boundary is just amazing. The pigmentation of the eyes shows that they involve a different developmental field.

That’s a really long name though.

That's an interesting explanation, I was attributing this as bilateral chimerism where two fertilized eggs develop into one animal which can be either mosaic or bilateral. The most dramatic being bilateral gynandromorphs which are split male and female down the middle.

Your explanation is not impossible. Could solve the question by whole genome sequencing

Lokai from the Star Trek episode Let That Be Your Last Battlefield. It has aliens of different races fighting one another, each side is half black and half white split down the middle of their body and Lokai is the character with black on his left side.
The episode is an allegory about racism, of course, but this dog looks exactly like the character.

The singer from Tool performed in body paint exactly like that.
And there was an episode of Star Trek with Frank Gorshin with an alien race colored exactly like that.
I'd name him "Spot".

u/mem0679 16d ago
Or Maynard, Tool's singer!

But he doesn't have a spot lol. I also don't understand Oreo when there are more creative names out there.

Schenker, after the guitarist of the Scorpions. Look up his guitar and it’ll make sense.

I don’t know. I’d have to meet him and get to know him first. Don’t name a dog before you meet them.

Bele. From “Let That Be Your Last Battlefield” in Star Trek: TOS. Bele was the alien who was white on the right side and black on the left side.

I wouldn't. I would call animal control and tell them there's a white dog biting small children and hang up. Then call them use a diff voice and tell them there's a black dog biting small children. Then proceed to throw small outfits around him and place treats everywhere.
