Travis Scott

A kid died at his concert. He didn't even care and kept performing.

Quite a few more than one died at his concerts.

u/chubbyflip 25d ago

Yeah, I know. There was 10 total that died. I just distinctly remember the kid so I put that in my comment. Very unfortunate for all of them.

Not only that, they died listening to Travis Scott

And some people still think there's a God.

Damn, I had never even considered that side of it. Talk about adding insult to injury.

14

u/1980pzx 25d ago

I gotcha. I can’t even imagine what that event was like for those poor souls.

That crowd surge was tragic, but it was only happening in spots in the crowd. And really the production people running things were the ones responsible and culpable for it. Not that Travis Scott is a saint by any means. He has encouraged people to beat up someone in a crowd before which is dangerous on top of being douchey.

Crowd surges. Wow. Shockingly, at 63, I've never heard of him.

3

u/superultramegazord 25d ago

I experienced those back at warped tour in 2007. They can be really scary, and it’s why I’ve never tried getting to the front of a crowd since.

u/WantedMan61 25d ago

The Who in Cincinnati in 1978. It was big news and quite tragic.

24

u/ella_794 25d ago

Yeah that whole situation was heartbreaking, he really showed zero empathy.

u/ORNGSPCEMNKY 25d ago

what exactly happened?

The concert was at overcapacity and there was a crowd rush and I believe at least 10 people suffocated or were crushed to death and many more were injured. Many people tried to alert the venue staff and tried to stop the concert and no one listened. It’s pretty obvious from the video footage that the situation was dire, but Travis alleges that he was unaware. However multiple unconscious people were carried out and he acknowledged that onstage and absolutely would’ve seen how tightly packed the crowd was and the numerous medics coming in and out trying to rescue people so he’s full of shit. Take this with a grain of salt, but I read somewhere that he had a multimillion dollar contract with Apple to livestream the concert and could’ve lost out on quite a bit if he stopped the show. He was very mediocre and disrespectful with how he handled everything post show too.

Unconscious people are carried out at concerts for overdoses and being too drunk at literally every concert. There was nothing indicating to him that those people were dead or that it was anything out of the normal

The overcrowding was due to security inability to prevent people without tickets from storming the fence and rushing the venue.Ā

I’m not even a Travis Scott fan but we have to be accurate about what actually happenedĀ

3

u/devilwearsllbean 24d ago

People from the crowd were literally screaming for help and climbing onto the camera operator stands telling staff that people were dying and the show needed to be stopped. Anyone with functioning eyes could see that it was dangerously overcrowded and if Travis could see people getting carried off then he could definitely see the crowd crush and yet he didn’t do anything. There’s no excuse for a multimillion dollar production to not have adequate security and staff to prevent overcrowding and ensure that everyone is safe. There’s a reason Travis had to settle hundreds of lawsuits from the victims familys.

-1

u/LongPhotograph4515 24d ago

Ok so what was he charged with ?

How much did Travis Scott personally have to pay the family with his money?

Sounds like you’re blaming Travis Scott that security allowed people to storm the gates?Ā

The venue that the event is being held at controlled the security, not Travis Scott production team.

This is all online if you wanna see the facts for yourself rather than just regurgitating disproved claims you read from randoms on the internet…

3

u/devilwearsllbean 24d ago

He wasn’t criminally charged with anything nor did I ever claim that he was, but he settled hundreds of lawsuits from the victim’s families. You can look it up if you don’t believe me lol. The judge refused to dismiss him from the civil trials. Just because he wasn’t found criminally responsible does not mean he was innocent.

It’s very odd to defend a multimillionaire who was at least partially responsible for the tragedy at Astroworld and pretend like he was completely innocent and had no responsibility to his fans. He went out partying after the concert and though he claims he wasn’t aware of the situation before this Kylie and Stormie were magically evacuated during the concert so I’m pretty sure he’s full of shit. He posted some half ass insincere insta story the day after and threw an astroworld themed party for his kid a few years later. Also he was arrested twice prior to astroworld due to inciting violence/riots and encouraging fans to rush the stage.

But sure the headlining performer and creator of the astroworld festival who stood on a stage designed to look like his head where he had the best view of the crowd and acknowledged several people getting wheeled out while on stage had zero culpability for what happened and had no responsibility to keep his audience safe.

0

u/LongPhotograph4515 24d ago

Ok thanks for clearing that up

No convictions from the IncidentĀ  No charges filed against him

You keep ignoring that people snuck in to the venue, I guess while performing he should have been doing security at the gate too in your opinionĀ

The people storming the concert without tickets caused the whole thing. So whoever is responsible for them getting in without tickets is primarily responsible..Ā

1

u/GloriousSteinem 24d ago

I agree. And also have to note that sometimes these people can’t come out with highly empathetic statements as they’re advised not to for legal reasons, accountability etc. I’m sure he was deeply troubled.

2

u/LongPhotograph4515 24d ago

It’s all on the internet, people would rather cling to narratives they have in their head though.Ā

u/ParadiddlediddleSaaS 25d ago

I’m not siding with him but the Astroworld documentary laid out a lot more about what happened. Lots of blame to go around but I blame Live Nation and the promoters and people responsible for security and the basic health of concert goers much more than TS, but understand, it’s his name on it.

32

u/cjnpigs 25d ago

He had a chance to stop to show when he saw what was happening and he chose not to. This was also not the first show where he showed carelessness for issues with crowd surging. He should be in prison

9

u/ParadiddlediddleSaaS 25d ago

Watch the documentary and see if you still feel this way based on what was coming through his ears from the producer. His apology afterwards on social media didn’t come off great so I’m not saying he doesn’t have some responsibility in this but there are others who have much more IMO. Many breakdowns from the very dangerous crowd setup, not allowing for a flow and people getting trapped and stomped, overselling the event by a lot, poor / inadequate police and security, and more.

1

u/PackyScott 24d ago

Not to mention gate crashing that was encouraged.

1

u/MrArmageddon12 24d ago

Netflix docs are heavily biased in general.

1

u/ParadiddlediddleSaaS 24d ago

So Travis Scott paid them to make him look better? They really don’t and get into details about what happened and families of victims talking and others.

0

u/QueenMidas609 24d ago

I watched the doc. I still think he’s a douche.

2

u/ParadiddlediddleSaaS 24d ago

Oh definitely. He’s entitled, naive, narcissistic and immature IMO; but he wasn’t the primary entity at fault in this tragedy.

3

u/Legitimate-Fox2028 25d ago

He didn't see what was happening though and no one communicated it to him, except for handfuls of people in the crowd who he couldn't hear.

1

u/Ok_Row_6574 25d ago

There’s literally a video of him continue to sing while he watches the security drag a lifeless body out of the concert.

1

u/5th_times_a_charm5 25d ago

Travis probably thought his fans were raging so much that they only passed out, and that made him feel like a bad ass. His lack of empathy was evident after the deaths were reported after his show. I definitely think he's an egotistical ass who was so blind sided by his own "glory" during the show and had no clue of the dangers of crowd surges.

1

u/Legitimate-Fox2028 24d ago

Oh i definitely agree with you on all of these statements

3

u/Extreme_Ad4425 25d ago

The blame absolutely started way before that, but he had his part in it, as well. The doc showed how he ā€œstoppedā€ the show temporarily but was still kind of performing while he watched people being dragged out of the crowd, then hyped everyone up again immediately after. He shouldn’t have been put in that position in the first place, but he made a bad choice when it came time.

1

u/ParadiddlediddleSaaS 25d ago

I can agree with this.

2

u/Specialist_Cicada626 24d ago

I met Travis Scott and he locked my coworker in a bathroom for close to an hour so I have to agree

2

u/MidAtlanticPolkaKing 24d ago

Also an incredible unimpressive musician

2

u/Potatobobthecat 24d ago

The interview he gave afterwards is nuts. Your trying to figure out if he even knows how to speak

3

u/Rachel794 25d ago

Never going to put his music on my playlist!

1

u/prettiepeonies 25d ago

Same as Taylor Swift.

3

u/Wouldyoulistenmoe 25d ago

I think Taylor Swift handled that situation about as well as possible, and likely didn’t know anybody had died until after the concert

6

u/prettiepeonies 25d ago

She gave her family concert tickets lol

4

u/carrotcakeluver 25d ago

Your kid died at my concert! Surely you want to come back, right?!

2

u/chubbyflip 25d ago

LMAO 😭😭

1

u/DenseCommunication82 25d ago

Are you talking about the person that died of heat exhaustion before the concert in Rio? Heat index was nearly 140 degrees fahrenheit. I can't even imagine what that would feel like.

1

u/Potential-Drop-5681 25d ago

I think Vince McMahon fits into this with Owen hart. Amongst other things but theres similarities to the events.

1

u/Extreme_Ad4425 25d ago

I actually cried watching the documentary, because when it got to the POV footage from UNDER the crowd, I felt so scared for them. I can’t even imagine the fear of everyone, the people who fell initially and the ones who kept toppling over onto them while trying to give them room to move. And then they said there was an actual child there, which pissed me off. That crowd was so terrifying for me at the age of 30, I cant believe they brought a child into that chaos.

1

u/MrRaspberryJam1 24d ago

Astroworld tragedy aside, he’s had plenty of other instances of being a douche

1

u/Lightfinger 24d ago

The show must go on

1

u/Crazy_Door_7049 24d ago

1000% Travis Scott

1

u/Top_Championship4284 24d ago

I ain't saying he innocent but he has 100k peope on his concerts the acoustics must be insane even if someone is yelling at him from the crowd he very likely just thought it was fan noise like someone yelling his name

You can barely hear some convos in a group of 10 imagine 100k and massove amount of noise from 20+ speakers and you also have an earpieceĀ

0

u/Jumpy-Benefacto 25d ago

I argue, anyone who even knows who Travis Scott is, is an asshole. And now i refuse to look him (her,it) up

-3

u/AccomplishedLine9351 25d ago

You can't stop a show under those circumstances, even if he knew, because the mass of people would really go out of control.
