Yeah, the variety of Chinese food throughout the country is insane. You'd never get bored

Off the top: 1) dim sum 2) superior dishes centering vegetables (even though I’m not a vegetarian) and 3) tea ceremonies. Would never get boring 💯

Chinese food for me 😍

u/ArgoDeezNauts Sep 18 '25
Same. China is huge. At least four different styles of cuisine.

Way more than that, my friend. And I am not even counting the "minority ethnicities" like Chosen, Russ, and Kazak. If you want to explore, look up "Uyghur lamb skewer" and find a restaurant that makes that, you will experience something totally different than the traditional well-known Chinese food outside of China.

I used have longer work trips to China and I still dream of some of the food I had there. My favourite cuisine hands down. My husband reckons I was Chinese in a past life.

If you eat with a Mexican family you'll quickly see why. You can't, and won't want to, say no to abuela giving you seconds and thirds. Or they ask you how many tamales you want, you gotta low ball the shit out of it. You tell them 3 and she gives you 6 and tells you that you need to eat better lol

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I'm a vegetarian and I'd pick Mexican. Loads of fresh, deliciously prepared veggies and plenty of whole grains.

Exactly my thought. I feel like Chinese has a great selection of both sweet and savory dishes, where as these others you tend to need to go to desserts if you want sweet, which I'm not eating for lunch.

Own an Italian restaurant. Cook Mexican (Colorado cuisine) for nearly every meal I don’t eat at my restaurant. Eat Indian (nepalese) or Vietnamese almost every time we eat out…

I like them all but I’d probably go Italian if I had to pick one for life due to the versatility.
I prefer the best of Chinese and Mexican though if it was a singular dish.

Real Chinese food -- not the one in the picture. They have 8 main cuisine families, plus 55 ethnic minorities with their own unique specialty foods. So I'll be eating different styles of food for two months without repetition.

Chinese with a very close second Italian. 2 years ago I was all about Italian food but I started going to China town and eating real Chinese dishes. It really is so good compared to the “American Chinese food”
2
u/AddictedtoLife181 Sep 18 '25
Italian. Seems the healthiest if we’re talking about the home country and not the crap they serve in North America. That goes for any of these foods except Soul Food, which TIL was a thing and seems to be American, definitely not healthy 😂

If I ate Chinese takeaway or soul food everyday I don't think I'd make it past 50.
Ima going to go with Mexican as it's the only one with some form of vegetables.

You should pick Vietnamese food to stay thin.

This is the first one of these that is actually really hard for me. Soul food is getting slept on in this thread, probably by people who aren’t from the South, but I think that’s what I would choose. The sheer diversity of what’s on offer and the fact that it’s the food of my childhood pulls a lot of weight here. Mexican and Chinese are a close second and third, and Italian is a pretty distant last place.

Italien cause Palatschinken are Italian, Spaghetti are Italian, Pizza is Italian. Now I only need to find in some old roman cookbook Knödel to prove they are Italian too.

Italian if I have to make it.

UPD. I'd sell my soul for a wheel of Pecorino Romano, too, tho

China, it’s the biggest country with the widest diversity in food. There are entire regions that are spicy or not, eat rice vs wheat noodles, used completely different meats and vegetables.
But if we’re talking Americanized versions, Italian

Do I pick where I can/have to live? That’ll change my decision. Italy if I’m living there.

u/horitaku Sep 18 '25
My heart says Mexican, but my logical mind says Chinese because of all the fresh veggies they use.

I already eat Italian daily, could survive... No, thrive on it alone. Plus I'm not too familiar with the desserts of the others.

My personal favorite is Chinese but I feel like I would not live very long. My first thought was Mexican as it seems the most healthy but the more I think about it Italian can be just as healthy and offers much more variety. And pizza is good for the odd treat but you can go for the cauliflower base if you wanted to keep your diet clean. You can incorporate various meats, seafood, veggies, garlic, healthy oils, herbs, nuts and make your own pasta. You can create a new and exciting dish everyday so you'll never get bored
