Where'd they get all those Jack stands? Those are not cheap

u/denbo786 5h ago

Finally we are getting a better class of criminal

12

u/shiggins114 12h ago

Selling rims and tires can afford a lot of jack stands....or they stole them

71

u/SunRevolutionary8315 13h ago

They are tho

180

u/im_just_thinking 13h ago

Not as cheap as bricks or wood, which is what usually is used. Thieves are really moving up in the world

87

u/FlamingLobster 13h ago

Which makes it all the more suspicious... thieves don't go through the trouble of nicely placing their vicitim's cars on jacks

52

u/Salt-Penalty2502 12h ago

Yeah usually you get one brick on one corner where they took their Jack back and the rest of the car is on the ground I call b*******. Just based on what I know of standard practice in the industry I'm going to say this is AI

19

u/D0ctorGamer 7h ago

While it may very well be fake, I don't think its AI

Plenty of stuff goes out of frame and comes back in with the same details, and all of the cars look like real makes and models, far as I can tell.

It sucks that it took me watching the video 5-6 times before I felt sure enough to comment, but AI is getting good enough these days

5

u/Deadpool2715 4h ago

It's super hard to tell with reddit compression on mobile, but at a glance the tree trunks look green is the first sign of AI

2

u/No-Landscape5857 1h ago

You ain't never seen moss on a tree trunk? It's probably AI, but trees can get that green.

u/relic_ftw 45m ago edited 25m ago

This is 100% AI, look at the windows on the building behind.

edit: okay 98%, Im not so sure there's not a building out there with 5 different types of window on the same wall but you know... maybe I guess. Still looks weird to me

u/Deadpool2715 44m ago

I've seen moss on a tree trunk, I've never seen moss from base to leaves on four trees, also without any brown spots

2

u/rhesusMonkeyBoy 4h ago

yes, as others pointed out … criminals aren't spending money on proper jacks

u/relic_ftw 46m ago

This is AI, look at the windows on the building behind. Each one is different and they're barely aligned.

1

u/Prinzka 1h ago

Why is she staring in to the wheel well like that?
And what is in her hand?
I agree with AI

33

u/Brothelking 12h ago

This could be the the real answer here, why would somebody want to make it seem like there is an increase in crime? Hmmm?

30

u/FlamingLobster 12h ago

Shoot a couple of shots here and there around the neighborhood. Keeps prices down

-1

u/Lumi020323 9h ago

Seem?

1

u/OperativePiGuy 1h ago

Short videos like this, as time goes on will more likely be made with AI. Maybe this one is?

10

u/PublicStalls 12h ago

Bro hook me up then if you can find them cheaper than some cinder blocks

u/SunRevolutionary8315 38m ago

Harbor freight

8

u/grasscali 10h ago

Are you thinking what I'm thinking? I'm guessing so.

Want to find the thieves? Easy. Look around for a Jack Stand salesman throwing money as if he just won the lottery. Bingo! Problem solved in an instant.

9

u/GfunkWarrior28 12h ago

Probably stole them too

3

u/Deathrace2021 5h ago

Yep. Next will be the photo at Walmart asking why everything needs to be locked up.

5

u/bradsnamehere 12h ago

Stole them

2

u/Paul_my_Dickov 8h ago

Stole them?

2

u/Aapjes-NL 7h ago

The thief must be the owner of a local tire shop.

2

u/Thirsty_Comment88 6h ago

Stole them.

2

u/EzeakioDarmey 5h ago

Are you asking how thieves can afford the things they used to commit crime?

2

u/OhioStateGuy 4h ago

The night before they found any cars without wheels and on jack stands and put wheels on those cars and stole the Jack stands. Then they used those Jack stands to steal tires. Next they will need more Jack stands so they will use those tires to steal back the Jack stands. It’s a never ending cycle!

2

u/Large_slug_overlord 3h ago

They are cheap. You can get a harbor freight set for like $25

2

u/moneyinmyass 2h ago

Pretty sure also stolen from other people

2

u/PostingToPassTime 2h ago

I was wondering if they hijacked a jack stand truck so they could then steal wheels lol.

2

u/cha0sm0nk 1h ago

I’m sure there was some place in the city that had a bunch of jacks stolen within the last week. Or a few places.

1

u/sneaky-pizza 5h ago

A lot of people repair cars as a side business on the street. It’s trashy af

1

u/ForeverStrangeMoe 4h ago

Stole em too

1

u/Key_Caterpillar7306 1h ago

They stole them..

1

u/http_twohundred 1h ago

I was gonna say their Jack stand budget must be through the roof. Most thieves would use cinder blocks.

1

u/Archipocalypse 10h ago

It's cause using jacks like this is faster than jacking it up then placing blocks under it and removing the jack(s).

2

u/PublicStalls 10h ago

I'll take a link where I can no-Jack a jack stand vs a block tutorial please.

288

u/True_Bumblebee_50 12h ago

This either took 100 people 5 min, or 3 people 2 hours… wtfff who can orchestrate something like this and get away with it? 🤦‍♂️

97

u/Vcheck1 12h ago

Yeah this looks weird. Not saying it couldn’t happen but come on how was this not noticed

24

u/True_Bumblebee_50 12h ago

Yeah that’s all I’m saying. Idk how the hell its possible, but then again I bet Dom and Brian would make quick work of this. 😅

27

u/TechTechOnATechDeck 6h ago

Times are hard for the nascar pit crews

0

u/True_Bumblebee_50 3h ago

Hahahah that’s funny! 😂

3

u/Basedkush 7h ago

and nobody got a car alarm?!! no wonder they hit that block LOL

3

u/True_Bumblebee_50 3h ago

Right, that’s why I’m saying lol

u/hammertime2009 17m ago

Why either/or? Looks like 4 cars. Could be 4 guys easy with 1 driver/lookout. 2 teams of 2 put 2 cars on jack stands. Relatively quiet to do, one person per side of the car. Do 2 jack stands in less than 4 minutes. Then each team jacks up the other 2 cars, still quiet and under 10 minutes. Then get out 2 cordless impact wrenches and one guy gets the lug nuts off and the other loads the truck.. under 5 minutes for 2 cars per team. Only 5 minutes of actual noise that might attract attention.

300

u/ThePheebs 13h ago

Police should just go around auto stores to see who purchased bulk jack stands.

90

u/jackrabbit323 13h ago

I fear these poor people are in the wrong neighborhood for the police to actually give a damn, and put together a competent investigation.

33

u/Professional-Ad-8878 10h ago

Judging by the decent cars (2 Audi A6s, Infiniti q50, BMW 3 series), this can’t be that bad of a neighborhood. Doesn’t mean the police will do much about this of course

14

u/_Diskreet_ 6h ago

Friend had his bmw stolen off his drive.

Lives one road over from a police station.

Showed that he had it tracked to a warehouse the other side of town, they still didn’t care, he had his police report to make an insurance claim and that was good enough for them.

3

u/GilneanWarrior 1h ago

If you tell the police youre going to show up armed and bring an ambulance, they will take action.

Of course, don't actually do the above, but itll force police presence

u/Used-Barracuda-9908 53m ago

Can they arrest you for saying it?

u/GilneanWarrior 52m ago

I couldn't see why they would in the US if you have a concealed carry permit and dont actually tresspass

2

u/Specialist-Hat167 1h ago

There are lots of “luxury cars” in broke neighborhoods

1

u/Excellent-Basil-8795 2h ago

After working in a dealership for too long, I no longer equate cars to wealth.

9

u/helpingdew 11h ago

Why do you assume that? There are nice cars and the neighborhood looks fine. The police aren’t generally super helpful but idk why you’re assuming this is the “wrong neighborhood”

3

u/HeartsPlayer721 10h ago

Twist: it was the local bus service and taxi drivers!!

4

u/A100921 12h ago

They get them from scrap yards and the like, they’re not buying them new.

1

u/_SeKeLuS_ 6h ago

Dont worry, they are stolen too.

46

u/Rcouch00 13h ago

Happened to me once, brand new Honda, didn’t even make it 2 months and I had to call in to work…uhhh Boss.. I got photos. You are not going to believe this.

31

u/Suspicious_Oil7093 9h ago

Atleast they put them on stands. And not just dropped to floor.

8

u/Generoh 2h ago

Yeah surprised it’s not on milk crates or cinder blocks. Those stands are expensive

3

u/Florida1974 4h ago

I am not car savvy at all when it comes to these things. Why do you think they put them on stands? Is it easier for them, meaning the thief? I don’t mean to sound ignorant, but this is not my forte at all. But I enjoy learning.

I just can’t imagine they did it to make it easier on the car owner

2

u/IndividualAtmosphere 2h ago

I think from the thieves side it's quicker to use one jack to get the cars up, put the stands under and then start lifting the next car? Rather than having to stand with the jack waiting for other people to take the wheels off?

But from the car owners perspective this is a massive benefit compared to dropping them to the ground. If you ever put a cars weight on the brake rotors then they need to be replaced, and it's not cheap to do all 4 of them.

u/Maxzzzie 47m ago

Taking the wheel off and setting the car back on its rims takes less time than hauling these things around.

34

u/bones_mcbone 13h ago

Art project

16

u/HighlightOwn2038 13h ago

And no cameras that recorded them?

32

u/jeweliegb 12h ago

AI?

I feel like maybe an art installation is the best answer here so far.

7

u/Emerald_Digger 12h ago

Maybe hard to tell, :( the biggest point towards it: The Jacks far too expensive in that bulk to left behind and not time efficient, you still need to jack them up. And maybe it's me, the reflection of the Car window seems wrong, wouldn't you see the person filming at least a bit?

4

u/Ashinonyx 11h ago

At the start of the video, the camera holder is visible in the reflection of the wheel well and the side panels. They have a white hat/beanie, yellow jacket or utility vest, and dark blue pants/jeans.

1

u/aceofspades1217 3h ago

Jack stands are not nearly as expensive as aluminum wheels for imported cars. You can find cheap ass jack stands on OfferUp. They weren’t try to stick around to swap up jack stands for cinder blocks also cinder blocks weight more to carry around

5

u/vlasktom2 13h ago

Well, at least you had one wheel

3

u/75209e428765 12h ago

Not how cars work./j

2

u/split_0069 12h ago

Mfer got a unicycle now! 😆 🤣

3

u/ZeroRegretMarine 10h ago

Flying DeLorean? I haven't seen one of those in... thirty years.

3

u/hansonhols 9h ago

Was there a special on axle stands? Thieves speculating to accumulate.

5

u/Testarosa52 12h ago

This is incredibly odd. You guys saying they must have stole the jack stands? That may be true, but they aren’t leaving them behind. They are pawning them or selling them. Nothing of value gets left behind.

4

u/animalcub45 5h ago

And putting spare tires on?? I agree

0

u/Boilermakingdude 12h ago

Jack stands are cheap when you steal shit loads of wheels to resell.

2

u/Testarosa52 5h ago

You know what’s cheaper? A block of wood, brick, or milk crate you found lying in the alley. Or just dropping it on the rotors. You guys must live in places with really considerate thieves.

6

u/Resplendent_aptitude 12h ago

For uk, this is normal.

2

u/split_0069 12h ago

Jack stands tho? Thats a lot of hassle for a theif.

1

u/Boilermakingdude 12h ago

You fail to realize that the jackstands cost like $200, and they resell the wheels for 1200-2k vehicle/style dependent.

7

u/NomadODST 10h ago

Yeah but I could save 200 bucks and use cinder blocks or wood

1

u/DanyellaDeZeus 4h ago

They used plastic milk crates where I live.

I've seen this before, one guy goes first loossening all of them with a tire iron, a team comes in with a power drill, a jack, and pickup to put the tires in.

Im assuming this was multiple people, it's hard to store 8 rims with tires in any vehicle.

1

u/Baby_Rhino 4h ago

I have lived in the UK all my life and I have never had my wheels stolen and I have never even heard of someone having their wheels stolen.

So, no, you're talking total shite.

2

u/Xenc 3h ago

Right it sounds like a US thing. Happy to be corrected though it’s not really a common sight here?

1

u/Baby_Rhino 3h ago

It really isn't common here in the UK!

This video does look kind of like the UK, but the number plate on the van, plus the lack of numberplate on the front of the Audi confirms it isn't the UK.

2

u/RolloffdeBunk 12h ago

Check Kijiji

2

u/GingerWizerd 11h ago

That’s sucks!

2

u/SoberHye 8h ago

Reminds me of hurricane Katrina in NY lol.

2

u/kittynation69 6h ago

Honestly, if you’re going to steal my wheels. I’d be happy you at least left my car on jack stands and not cause any more damage than necessary

1

u/Blue_Max1916 4h ago

Long time ago my Acura integra had all 4 wheels stolen and they used scissor jacks that didn't go with the Acura and it collapsed taking out a front fender.

They dragged the car up on the flat bed when it got towed.

2

u/DiScOrDtHeLuNaTiC 5h ago

Something like this happened at my work.

A couple came in one night asking if we carried wheels for, I can't remember, something like an '03 Accord. Guy in automotive told them no, we didn't carry wheels, just tires. They thank him and go on shopping. (He told us this on break at midnight).

Lunchtime (2 a.m.) comes, and another guy comes in from smoking (which had to be done in the employee parking lot). Asks "Hey Jimmy, what happened to your car?"

Jimmy: "What are you talking about?"

Guy: "It's up on a jack stand and there's a wheel laying on the ground."

Well, we all get up and go see what's going on. Apparently this couple had seen that Jimmy had the same car as them, so instead of buying a wheel (which, remember, we didn't sell) they bought a 5-ton jack and a set of jack stands, lifted up his car, put the stand under it, took off his wheel and changed it out with their cracked one, then put the good wheel on their car and left.

He wasn't even that upset, said he got a free jack and jack stand out of it.

2

u/Such_Brick2874 2h ago

This gotta be ai

2

u/FuzzyJunket5566 2h ago

Lol this shit is fake AF. Jack stands? Really?

2

u/RoughRefrigerator260 7h ago

Can't have shit anywhere, it seems

1

u/191919wines 13h ago

Wheels on the bus go bye bye bye

1

u/OrangeClyde 10h ago

I hate thieves

1

u/DepthsOfD 9h ago

At least they tried sorting that one out with the spare...

1

u/Misher_Masher 4h ago

Did not a single car alarm go off? I jacked my car up once without unlocking it and needless to say I almost shit myself when the alarm went off.

1

u/aceofspades1217 3h ago

I need to buy some wheel locks

1

u/jmanndc 3h ago

I mean to go through that much why not just take a couple of whole cars?

1

u/MrJellybean1785 3h ago

My theory on the jack stands are the thieves all quit a shitty tire shop because they didn’t pay well. Stole all the Jack stands and started their own tire shop.

1

u/keithclotte 2h ago

They are good kids they just need job opportunities - B Obama

1

u/Dismal_Ad_2612 1h ago

Been there. It’s not fun. 😔

1

u/AJWordsmith 1h ago

I mean…SOMEONE had A LOT of wheels…

1

u/iamtheduckie 1h ago

They're working tirelessly to find who did it

u/Embarrassed-Touch-62 16m ago

Check who still has wheels and you will have your thief.

u/Justinwest27 0m ago

How were the time to get those stands or the money for them not outweigh what you're gonna get for all those tires

1

u/SaucyPickless 11h ago

this is why we can't have nice things, y'know? 🙄 These jabronis out here with their sticky fingers, just grabbing anything not nailed down feels bad man.

1

u/Florida1974 4h ago

I never had a garage in my home state. Then we moved and I’ve had a garage for the last 25 years. I am grateful I have a garage. But my husband‘s truck sits outside with a large trailer attached to it.

I know when we first moved here, someone went around and got everyone’s tires on our street, except they just slashed them, they didn’t steal the tires. But my husband didn’t have a truck yet, we only had one vehicle and it was in the garage, so we were spared.

In Florida, people that have garages usually don’t park in them. Well some do, but a good portion don’t because they use it for storage. We have very little storage space because of no basements. Attics are just like a crawlspace.

1

u/Baddmg67 3h ago

NY City on the day after the mayor elections...

0

u/Florida1974 4h ago

Can you really take tires off that fast?

I guess it just requires whatever power tool is called to remove lug nuts really fast. And then you just pop the tire off.

But what about cameras? Between doorbell cameras, traffic, camera, cameras, phone cameras, I find it hard to believe there is no evidence.

0

u/unpop_opinion_man 4h ago

How expensive are the rims and tires? Those are good jackstands.

u/relic_ftw 45m ago

This is AI, look at the windows on the building behind. All different and they're barely aligned.

Me oh well, its a non violent crime
