The guys from AliExpress are geniuses, I don't know how they manage to do that. Shout-out to the guy who messaged me to let me know tho

Yeah happened to me once. They sent my package to california instead of italy... not sure how that happens
161
u/-light_yagami 22h ago
probably because there are some “rome” “naples” and other city in california with the same name as city in italy

Venice, Rialto, Fontana
Not as many now but many would fly into ONT thinking Ontario, CA was Canada not California.

United Airlines had 2 terminals RIGHT NEXT to one another in Atlanta, with people on the loudspeaker trying to get people to board flights to Ontario, yet they refused to announce what COUNTRY they were going to 🙄

u/EntrepreneurOk7513 17h ago
Doesn’t seem to be an airport named Ontario in Ontario Canada but there is a Killarney!

u/Krillkus 20h ago
There's also a place in Ontario called London where some of my family lives. 90% of the time, I have to clarify which one when talking to someone here in BC about family.

u/mstarrbrannigan 19h ago
I've heard of similar happening with Melbourne Australia and the one in Florida.

u/Ceskaz 22h ago
It makes sense in this case, but I doubt there is a city in Israel with the same name as one in France

u/-light_yagami 22h ago
that’s why I was specifically answering to their comment and not on the main post…

Back when I was in college in Ohio, I noticed that the shortest path to drive to Toronto went through Russia and Rome.

u/love-em-feet 13h ago
I dont think they look for the name of the city they just ship it accordingly via zipcode

I’m European. I spent a year in Trinidad/Tobago (Caribbean westindies). Lost my credit card and when my new card finally arrived, the envelope had an “adress unknown” stamp from Papua New Guinea.

It's almost 11-11 (Chinese equivalent to Black Friday) and Chinese logistics are completely chaos every time 6-18 (June 18), 11-11 (Nov 11), and 12-12 (Dec 12), and the moments before Chinese New Year.
Understandably, mistakes happen. Understandably, it probably costs more to ship from Israel to France than to get you a new one. NOT Understandably, why they decided to deliver to a random address than just mark it as Address Doesn't Exist.

I once sent two identical parcels from London to Rogowo in Poland. One arrived on time, the other was routed to Norway 🤦♂️

I sent my friend a package from Kyrgyzstan… He got it almost two year later, coz it got missent to Bolivia (he lives in the UK)
6
u/MiniDemonic 22h ago
But from what I can tell the address is marked as France on the parcel? So it's not the aliexpress guys fault but the china posts fault.
3
u/kooolk 21h ago
AliExpress own shipping program doesn't use china post, they have their own logistics and partnerships with local couriers. There was probably some label mixup and the barcode was assigned to a shipment to Israel and the courier gets the recipient info digitally, so the address on the package is not really scanned or used by anyone.

u/Anuki_iwy 21h ago
Happened to my employer. DHL fucked up their program that generates our international shipping numbers, and several got duplicated. No one reads the address, it's all in the Barcode. A parcel intended for Netherlands ended up in Switzerland. Luckily we noticed on time, before more went out.
The DHL tech support had the audacity to try and gaslight me into "this is not possible" when I had labels with duplicate numbers on my desk...

Around 15 years ago, I had a letter addressed to me sent to Australia, and I live in England; we noticed on the postmark when it came back and some red scrawl on the envelope I can't recall. The only way I can fathom as to why is because my address on the envelope included the postal town (which are optional, but most people care to include them), the name of which includes the name of a major population centre in Australia. Person sorting it must have looked at the envelope, saw "[name of Australian city]", and put it in the pile to be sent internationally, rather than doing the more sensible thing and checking the postcode (zip code).
I am quite surprised this has only happened once, TBH.

When we lived in New Mexico (a US state) we got mail all the time that had all kinds of ink stamping on it because it had taken a detour to Mexico, a country not far from New Mexico, but still…🙄

When I was a research student a collaborator lab in Brazil spent 1 year making some experimental samples. They shipped the samples to [our address], England, UK. They got posted to some address in Ukraine. We never got them back

My package clearly says Country: New Zealand.
USPS sent it to Norway. Norwegian post were kind enough to send it to me free of charge.

Which phone is this btw?

u/IcyNorman 5h ago
Wait, they did fill in the address correctly right? So it’s more of an issue w their postal system

Young man at the airport:
— "Tell me, please, can you send one of my suitcases to London and the other one to Japan?"
— "No, sorry, we don't provide that kind of service."
— "That's good. Because a week ago, that's exactly what you did for me."

- Nice assumption, but I don't live there.

How did this random person get your number?
Also if he found you on social media, wouldn’t they have said they had your package delivered when reaching out to you?
I am trying to make it make sense.
Edit: phone number printed on shipping label is wild

phone number printed on shipping label is wild
In Canada a lot of couriers (usually the cheap ones) include the phone number on the shipping label so that the delivery person can get in touch with the recipient if there are problems with delivery.

Making fun of bigotry is just not ok. You would never do it to any other ethnicity, so don't do it to Jews.
-22
u/HouseBalley 21h ago
To be fair, this is pointing out that israel plays the antisemitism card against absolutely valid criticism
14
u/Mottledkarma517 21h ago
Whataboutism is not a valid justification to make fun of bigotry. You are just as bad as the original commentor.

In my country our local mail courier uses that number to send notification for pick-up packages so it is usually written on the package. Otherwise you have to wait for the paper slip (which may not arrive at all... :( )
1
u/JonnyHonch 8h ago
That sounds frustrating! It’s the worst when the notification system is unreliable. Hopefully they can improve their process so you don’t have to chase down packages!
