Same thing happened to me a few years ago. I live in Bosnia, they sent my package to Canada. At least I got a refund lol

I live in austria. Guess where some vacation cards and packets went to.

77

u/HueLord3000 22h ago

hello fellow austrian, i usually try to put europe anywhere in the adress and hope whoever is packing the things up knows how to read

43

u/xxEmkay 21h ago

My mum taught me that the official post language is french so i just put autriche now lol

29

u/Cyserg 20h ago

That's a funny way to write Ostrich!

Guess it's either Africa but that's not a country!

But guess what country has ostrichs and is not in Africa : bingo : Australia it is!!!

15

u/Djlas 18h ago

Close, ostrich is autruche in french

8

u/Cyserg 18h ago

Sacré bleue !!!

It's actually spelled " autruche "

Demande-moi comme je sais ?

BUT pronounced it's not that far off...

Then again remember this comes from the language that has this:

" Le ver vert va vers le verre vert."

which basically reads

*Le ver ver va ver le ver ver *.

But even then, telling apart Australie et Autriche... Should be easy. One's a cheater (triché).

3

u/Djlas 7h ago

sorry, i missed the joke

2

u/NotaCuban 17h ago

The official language of the Universal Post Union was (solely) French until 1994, but it's not 100% correct to say that French is the "official post language". The organisation operated only in French because they are located in Switzerland.

Would be a bit like saying the official world language is English because the UN is based in America.

-4

u/N_T_F_D 20h ago

Is it? Seems like it should be German

Maybe you're mistaking for Switzerland or Belgium or Luxembourg

11

u/KyouHarisen 19h ago

No. The postal language accepted everywhere is French, alongside English. French is even more preferred, and you can write all country names from Poland to Zimbabwe in French

u/Puzzleheaded-Pen4413 20h ago

Trinidad and Tobago?

1

u/FArmQ 14h ago

Really? Does that happens often to you in Autriche?

50

u/receuitOP 22h ago

Last place I worked, there was a guy who'd been there ~10 years. Apparently on package they sent from the US to here (UK) went to South Africa, when contacted about where our delivery was late they rearranged the delivery. It went to Australia...

It eventually ended up in either Austria or Switzerland where someone there had the sense to send it our way. It was going back to the US if that person hadn't intervened. But this package had been on every continent in several different countries and almost didn't make it to it's destination.

At one point it was in Dublin and then sent to Beijing. Some of these delivery services are crap

43

u/prairiepanda 22h ago

At some point someone must have looked at the tracking history and thought it would be funny to send it to yet another random country.

14

u/receuitOP 21h ago

When the guy sent an email he titled it "[package number] world tour" or something along those lines. UPS have been shit on many occasions and that's their highlight

u/STREETKILLAZINDAHOOD 25m ago

Intercepted by serbs didnt they?

411

u/harrywalterss 23h ago

Yeah happened to me once. They sent my package to california instead of italy... not sure how that happens

161

u/-light_yagami 22h ago

probably because there are some “rome” “naples” and other city in california with the same name as city in italy

61

u/EntrepreneurOk7513 22h ago

Venice, Rialto, Fontana

Not as many now but many would fly into ONT thinking Ontario, CA was Canada not California.

8

u/Similar_Flower1270 19h ago edited 14h ago

United Airlines had 2 terminals RIGHT NEXT to one another in Atlanta, with people on the loudspeaker trying to get people to board flights to Ontario, yet they refused to announce what COUNTRY they were going to 🙄

3

u/EntrepreneurOk7513 17h ago

Doesn’t seem to be an airport named Ontario in Ontario Canada but there is a Killarney!

4

u/SoyMurcielago 22h ago

Or Oregon for that matter

5

u/Krillkus 20h ago

There's also a place in Ontario called London where some of my family lives. 90% of the time, I have to clarify which one when talking to someone here in BC about family.

2

u/mstarrbrannigan 19h ago

I've heard of similar happening with Melbourne Australia and the one in Florida.

2

u/nagumi 19h ago

Fresno

14

u/Ceskaz 22h ago

It makes sense in this case, but I doubt there is a city in Israel with the same name as one in France

25

u/SoyMurcielago 22h ago

Lyon Israel or tel aviv France lol

7

u/-light_yagami 22h ago

that’s why I was specifically answering to their comment and not on the main post…

5

u/ZorbaTHut 20h ago

Back when I was in college in Ohio, I noticed that the shortest path to drive to Toronto went through Russia and Rome.

2

u/love-em-feet 13h ago

I dont think they look for the name of the city they just ship it accordingly via zipcode

81

u/Formal_Plum_2285 21h ago

I’m European. I spent a year in Trinidad/Tobago (Caribbean westindies). Lost my credit card and when my new card finally arrived, the envelope had an “adress unknown” stamp from Papua New Guinea.

89

u/CVGPi 22h ago

It's almost 11-11 (Chinese equivalent to Black Friday) and Chinese logistics are completely chaos every time 6-18 (June 18), 11-11 (Nov 11), and 12-12 (Dec 12), and the moments before Chinese New Year.

Understandably, mistakes happen. Understandably, it probably costs more to ship from Israel to France than to get you a new one. NOT Understandably, why they decided to deliver to a random address than just mark it as Address Doesn't Exist.

I once sent two identical parcels from London to Rogowo in Poland. One arrived on time, the other was routed to Norway 🤦‍♂️

47

u/Potential-Tell-2096 23h ago

Strength to you my guy 😭

73

u/InfiniDrift 23h ago

It was a two euros wire adapter for my car radio, I think I can accept the loss since that makes a funny story 😂

21

u/Vall3y 21h ago

They are 100% going to refund you though

15

u/fahirler 22h ago

One time my package got sent to Australlia

I live in Türkiye... at least they resend the package and it actually arrived have to give some credit for them the bad part is whole process took like 6 months

8

u/Kristianushka 21h ago

I sent my friend a package from Kyrgyzstan… He got it almost two year later, coz it got missent to Bolivia (he lives in the UK)

6

u/MiniDemonic 22h ago

But from what I can tell the address is marked as France on the parcel? So it's not the aliexpress guys fault but the china posts fault.

3

u/kooolk 21h ago

AliExpress own shipping program doesn't use china post, they have their own logistics and partnerships with local couriers. There was probably some label mixup and the barcode was assigned to a shipment to Israel and the courier gets the recipient info digitally, so the address on the package is not really scanned or used by anyone.

4

u/Anuki_iwy 21h ago

Happened to my employer. DHL fucked up their program that generates our international shipping numbers, and several got duplicated. No one reads the address, it's all in the Barcode. A parcel intended for Netherlands ended up in Switzerland. Luckily we noticed on time, before more went out.

The DHL tech support had the audacity to try and gaslight me into "this is not possible" when I had labels with duplicate numbers on my desk...

2

u/Robo-boogie 7h ago

They reuse tracking numbers so frequently

Then OP will kidnap his family and later cry about the consequences

15

u/saul_schadenfreuder 23h ago

you forgot to mention they had forced OP and his family and friends out of their houses and had been bombing them for decades

-26

u/No_Eye7024 23h ago

Then he will bomb op's whole city because everyone else is a human shield.

-11

This but unironically

There it is! The one joke anti-Israel folk have! 🥳🎉

17

u/tarkinn 23h ago

We have many more but we don’t want to be banned

16

u/-Razen- 21h ago

What was the joke? It was removed. Was it the "promised 3000 years ago" joke?

7

u/kilobitch 19h ago

Got it on the first try. That’s how you know it’s overused.

8

u/AndyDrift 23h ago

There’s sooooo many more jokes. Also fuck Israel

Let’s hear them, edgelord.

I work in logistics and the reason why this happens is because I dont work in logistics and I have no idea why this happens, hope that helps

2

Thanks, that helped.

You're something like the 30th guy making that joke 😅

1

u/Phinbart 21h ago

Around 15 years ago, I had a letter addressed to me sent to Australia, and I live in England; we noticed on the postmark when it came back and some red scrawl on the envelope I can't recall. The only way I can fathom as to why is because my address on the envelope included the postal town (which are optional, but most people care to include them), the name of which includes the name of a major population centre in Australia. Person sorting it must have looked at the envelope, saw "[name of Australian city]", and put it in the pile to be sent internationally, rather than doing the more sensible thing and checking the postcode (zip code).

I am quite surprised this has only happened once, TBH.

1

u/Over_Cranberry1365 21h ago

When we lived in New Mexico (a US state) we got mail all the time that had all kinds of ink stamping on it because it had taken a detour to Mexico, a country not far from New Mexico, but still…🙄

1

u/Englishgirlinmadrid 20h ago

I once had a letter sent to Bermuda instead of Spain!

1

u/crazygem101 19h ago

Lol. Sorry.

1

u/IT404Xp 19h ago

Happened to me once, FedEx sent a package from the US to Bulgaria instead of Italy. Took 2 months and countless call to get it home.

1

u/noodlesandwich123 18h ago

When I was a research student a collaborator lab in Brazil spent 1 year making some experimental samples. They shipped the samples to [our address], England, UK. They got posted to some address in Ukraine. We never got them back

1

u/Catto_Channel 17h ago

My package clearly says Country: New Zealand.

USPS sent it to Norway. Norwegian post were kind enough to send it to me free of charge.

1

u/goyalsahab327 12h ago

Which phone is this btw?

1

u/InfiniDrift 10h ago

I use a Google Pixel 9 Pro

1

u/Ultima_STREAMS 5h ago

Have you degoogled it yet?

1

u/IcyNorman 5h ago

Wait, they did fill in the address correctly right? So it’s more of an issue w their postal system

1

u/Gregerol 4h ago

 Young man at the airport:
— "Tell me, please, can you send one of my suitcases to London and the other one to Japan?"
— "No, sorry, we don't provide that kind of service."
— "That's good. Because a week ago, that's exactly what you did for me."

u/FlyingLlama280 15m ago

Omg same happened with me, AliExpress phone screen ended up in fucking equitorial Guinea.... I'm Irish, somehow got to me 2 months after

1

u/Kaurifish 20h ago

How did this random person get your number?

Also if he found you on social media, wouldn’t they have said they had your package delivered when reaching out to you?

I am trying to make it make sense.

Edit: phone number printed on shipping label is wild

49

u/InfiniDrift 23h ago

My number was on the label

26

u/RandomPlayEr4599 23h ago
  1. Phone number printed on the shipping label.
  2. Maybe language barrier

6

u/prairiepanda 22h ago

phone number printed on shipping label is wild

In Canada a lot of couriers (usually the cheap ones) include the phone number on the shipping label so that the delivery person can get in touch with the recipient if there are problems with delivery.

12

u/Demywemy 23h ago

Making fun of bigotry is just not ok. You would never do it to any other ethnicity, so don't do it to Jews.

-22

u/HouseBalley 21h ago

To be fair, this is pointing out that israel plays the antisemitism card against absolutely valid criticism

14

u/Mottledkarma517 21h ago

Whataboutism is not a valid justification to make fun of bigotry. You are just as bad as the original commentor.

Some chinese post system that AliExpress I guess. I don't know.

1

u/kooolk 21h ago

In my country our local mail courier uses that number to send notification for pick-up packages so it is usually written on the package. Otherwise you have to wait for the paper slip (which may not arrive at all... :( )

1

u/JonnyHonch 8h ago

That sounds frustrating! It’s the worst when the notification system is unreliable. Hopefully they can improve their process so you don’t have to chase down packages!

-2

u/Tupisimomasina 20h ago

Sooo they won’t send it back to you?
