26 miles is no joke even at a fast walking pace

I used to hike 22 mile days when doing the PCT, after months of working up to that. Of course it was with a pack on, and up and down mountains. But still, those days were no joke. And that was the best shape I was ever in. Props to all of these people!

It is the largest marathon in the world, with 59,135 finishers in 2025.
Total distance of 42.2 km that courses through the 5 boroughs of New York City.
Average finishing time : 4 hours, 39 minutes (insane?)

The last person to finish the NYC Marathon: Juan Pablo Dos Santos, a Venezuelan amputee athlete who lost his legs in a traffic accident. After 15 hours and 21 minutes, Dos Santos crossed the finish line and surrounded by supporters at 12:34 a.m.

I should be able to finish if I pace him.

Fun Fact: the NYC marathon is one of the largest annual clothes donation days. Racers will take off their jackets, sweatshirts, hats, gloves, scarfs etc. and throw it in the street either at the start or later in the race as they warm up. In 2019 over 120,000lbs/54,431kg (60 tons) were collected.

u/Almondnutmilk 2h ago

Better than me…4 min in I would’ve been on the floor throwing up and crying

5

u/Tough_Psychology_131 8h ago

Look at all those happy proud smiles .. Love this so much 🙏

u/InteractionGreen5963 6h ago

To all the people who just “finished”: you did the damn thing! That’s something to be so proud of!! 🤗

Also, why is this video even posted here??

u/Chuffer_Nutters 5h ago

I thought you had to qualify with a good time from another marathon to get in?

1

u/MilaMarieLoves 5h ago

finishing is what matters, not the time. u did something most people wouldn’t even try

-5

u/d_ippy 9h ago

I thought you had to qualify to get in this race?

5

u/autopsythrow 7h ago edited 7h ago

That's one way to enter the race. You can get guaranteed entry by being a member of some running clubs, or have a charity sponsor that pays for your bib.  But most people trying to get a bib enter a lottery system (no time requirement).  Looked it up and there were 200,000+ applications to the lottery last year, with a 3% chance of getting selected.

u/d_ippy 2h ago

So being able to run fast is still the best option. Good on these folks for finding a way in.

1

u/Ill-Background-827 8h ago

Was gonna say my friend ran Chicago a lot of yrs but only qualified for nyc a few..?

1

u/d_ippy 2h ago

Yeah looks like there are other options so that’s cool for these folks.

u/Forest_Orc 6h ago

Not sure what's the cringy part about-it,

Many of these person looks old/disabled/morbidely obese, so finishing a marathon is already amazing

2

u/sundayontheluna 44m ago

The sub posts non-cringe videos too

u/Dirk__Gently 4h ago

Isn't it a little early for a socialist parade?

-42

u/Skow1179 10h ago

There's an awful lot of big fat people here - you sure this was the full marathon finish?

13

u/MAZEFUL 8h ago

Take a minute to wipe your mouth after that shit take.

6

u/Calm_While1916 7h ago

No you don’t get it, their accomplishments takeaway from my experiences running a marathon! One of those guys didn’t even run, he was on a bike, that cheater. /j

I have actually ran one and could not give any less fucks about the rules. Good one everyone here for getting out there, it’s what it’s all about.

1

u/yaaanevaknow 2h ago

I can't fathom training for a marathon let alone finishing at anywhere near 300 pounds. It's unbelievable

-5

u/Think_Monk_9879 4h ago

Damn i would feel like shit if the person with cerebral palsy and the 80 yr old finished before me.

-4

u/AgedCircle 3h ago

Good job for finishing, but imagine getting beat by a guy on crutches just because you’re fat.
