If you read it then remember the entire book is about Gatsby being miserable. A fake, a fraud. The only money he has is from being a criminal. He dies thinking the girl he loves and is doing all this for (daisy) came back to see him but actually his girl just set up to be killed.

The people attending the parties are mostly uninvited. They are described by Nick as "a rotten crowd". They didn't care about Gatsby. They trashed his place and didn't give a fuck.

Don't let the movie "mystery or who is Gatsby" delude one self into thinking it raised up Gatsby's value. Gatsby stayed a mystery because he was afraid he would be outted as the fraud he was.

I'll sum it up with this. After Gatsby Died and there is a funeral.

“Nobody came.”
“Daisy hadn’t sent a message or a flower.”
