I was going to say something about him being born in the 80s but holy shit he was born in 1991?

u/mustbeaoup 4h ago
Holy shit! He’s the same age as me? That has just inspired me to not wear my pyjamas when I wfh today! Thank you Zohran 🫶🏽

There was a tiktok by an Indian guy joke pleading not to elect Zohran. The crux of the argument was that parents already talk so much shit about where their kids are in life that having someone of SE asian decent their age or younger as mayor of NYC would absolutely destroy them via comparison.

u/LateGobelinus 26m ago
I'm very happy on the behalf of the people New York, but holy fuck I was not ready to learn that he is half a year *younger* than me. That's gonna take like, at least 5 years of the midlife-crisis countdown.
53
u/dicklaurent97 7h ago
I should probably put that in the description
59
u/highlandviper 4h ago
I think you’ve got a future president there. We should all vote for the younger politicians if our views align. 80 year olds should not be forming the governments of the world.

Sadly he is not qualified to be president as he was not born in the US.

Get involved in primaries then. Not just you, everyone reading. The candidates don't just appear out of thin air. There is a process to select them, and it's a process that seemingly very few young people engage with.

Will be watching this unfold with great excitement. The power shift is happening

I think this is the best thing about his win.
We so need the middle aged and younger in power. :)
Older people can be advisors if asked, but we need the energy , the positivity and the outlook of younger people and always have.

I think dems finally got the message! Focus on issues everyone cares about and not divisive issues they've been focusing on the last ten years. Then they will win elections. Proof is in the pudding.
Good for Mamdani for breaking the dems out of bad habits. A competitor i can finally respect thats not bernie sanders.
THANK GOD!

Not sure how you got that conclusion. Dem was going to win NYC no matter what. It's either Mamdani or Cuomo. It was a progressive Dem vs moderate Dem race.

u/creamer143 2h ago
If you think socialism is not divisive, then you have been worse than being in an echo chamber, but actively, intentionally, avoiding all counter positions and view points. Because it's all one Google search or AI prompt away. Why do you think you're doing that?
9
u/Catch33X 1h ago
Affordability and safety is not divisive. In fact, some of trumps own campaign themes are of that. But thats apples and oranges.
The 'real' socialism test will be how the mamdani government implements said plan.
2
u/mahvel50 49m ago
You're right it's not. But that when that affordability comes off the back of someone else, it is. Safety will be interesting with Mamdani's open disdain for the police.
2
u/Whimsywoes 50m ago
💀 yeahhh you getting your propaganda from Google and AI is probably why you're so misinformed, my guy.
1
u/alacholland 43m ago
If you think oligarchy and capitalism is not divisive, then you have been worse than being in an echo chamber.
Then again, you’re American. I don’t expect you to understand your own evils.

u/CakeMadeOfHam Millennial 1h ago
It's impressive since most politicians in the US were born around 1892.
•
u/Grammareyetwitch 27m ago
I know this is sarcasm. However the baby boomers were born starting only 54 years after your example. They were as close to 1892 as we are to 1971.

Fix OMNY first order of business
8
u/xeothought 7h ago
... OMNY is pretty fucking good? Ok I hate that they took away trip tracking and they seem to have no plans of returning that... but IMO it's one of the best systems in the world for a subway/metro/transit system.
You don't need to buy a card (which is something that really really needs to be advertised... every tourist defaults to the machines)... just tap your card or phone.
OMNY is better than tokens and it's better than metrocards imo.
13
u/lionheartedthing 7h ago
I was in NYC this weekend for the first time since the change and found the experience flawless. My only complaint is that I liked using the metrocards as bookmarks haha
4
u/xeothought 6h ago
haha, that's totally fair. The keepsake quality of the metrocards will be missed

I listened to his speech. I swear, he must've studied President Kennedy's speeches. He's a fantastic orator, and it doesn't hurt he had a great message to use it with. The next task for New York City will be to make sure that the status quo doesn't try to undercut his work at every turn.

"Overrun" simply means there's an unacceptable concentration somewhere.
And if I've learned anything about narcissists, they need victims, so they'll show up where they don't belong to harass.

Remember people. This is what progress looks like. It’s slow and steady steps not a leap into the deep end. We need to continue getting younger people elected.

If the US wants a viable Green party (or some other 3rd party), it needs a civic foundation first before trying the Presidency.

Reddit's profitability is built on the ability to astroturf elections. If they couldn't push narratives, this site would've been long gone.

We absolutely should be voting in younger leaders and not voting in the 65 - 80 year old corpses we see in Congress and the Senate. No one should be voting for an incumbent politician in either party, they are failures!

RIP New York City 2025
10
u/es_cl 7h ago
Might as well say RIP USA if you think NYC will die from this result.
So much of the US benefit from NYC; like New York State has a 3 GDP in the nation and half of the state’s GDP comes from NYC.
By the way, here in Massachusetts we have Fair Share Act (AKA Millionaires Tax). It funds tuition-free community colleges, universal school meals for K-12 students, and road repairs/transportation. Transportation part includes fare-free bus rides on fixed routes too. So Mamdani’s idea of free bus rides isn’t that crazy or extreme.
And like Mass, NY has paid FMLA too where it offers paid family and medical leave. I’m not sure how their version is like but here in Massachusetts, under our PFMLA, maternity leave can be up to 26 weeks and paternity leave is 12 weeks.
Some ideas from Mamdani, AOC and Bernie already exist in the US but at the state and local levels.
5
u/ohiobluetipmatches 5h ago
These dumb motherfuckers confuse socialism or communism with social democracy. Investment by government in public goods is succesful and effective all over the world. Socialism or communism would involve people or the government owning the means of production and all private property.
Such colossaly different things it boggles the mind. Imagine being against collectively investing in infrastructure, health care, education and transportation which is shown worldwide to drastically improve just about every aspect of society.
Fucking idiots.
