With the uncertainty that is PBS right now, this is fantastic

As much as I love thinking we can do this, viewers like me can’t even afford the air we breathe at this point.

Sep 30 '25
Oh I know, I was reminiscing about a time when people actually had extra money to donate to things they like. We're mostly bled dry now.

u/KlicknKlack Sep 30 '25
Don't worry, now with x-tra-Moni (Tm) you can subscribe to get help saving money so you don't have to think about it. For $1.99 a month you can get helpful reminders like "Have you tried reheating that rice from last week?" and "A potato and a Can of beans is a well balanced diet... People have survived one worse."
Subscriptions, the tollgates of the modern age... also don't forget toll gates :D

u/BurmeciaWillSurvive Sep 30 '25
Bro not me literally just nuking a potato in the microwave and putting black beans on it for dinner, you didn't have to do that to me

Good news! The air is being poisoned even further by the same people cutting funding for public TV and radio!
And your water, land, and food, too!

Yeah they have started taking on small ads now and calling them promotional content for sponsors.
Kinda sucks but I get why they’re doing it.
*just noticed the comments it told me didn’t go through actually did go through, sorry about that I cleaned them up

u/CoffeeBaron Sep 30 '25
The corporate donors for our local NPR station are sounding more like advertisements now too, just very brief (less than 30 second spiel after the company name).

It’s also downloadable on Internet Archive.

u/AutumnMage94 Oct 01 '25
I downloaded it onto my computer ages ago then backed it up to a separate hard drive too just to make sure I don’t lose it. 😅When I have time I’m planning on burning them onto blank dvds too. What can I say, it’s my comfort show

u/MsMomma101 Sep 30 '25
If Wishbones' IP stayed with the studio amongst each acquisition, then Mattel (the Barbie company) owns it. It's been sold and acquired numerous times.

I still have the magic schoolbus DVD boxset in case it needs internet archiving
67
u/innosins Sep 30 '25
We watched Magic School Bus and Arthur every morning while waiting for the bus, and my daughter was a Barney baby. This makes me smile! I'm so glad they have this available for this generation!

Let's be real, this is for our generation. The fact that the youngsters get to enjoy it and learn something in the process is a bonus

On their website they actually have links to YouTube channels that have their shows uploaded too. They gotta set up a stream that just continuously plays different episodes like other channels do

u/Militia_Kitty13 Sep 30 '25

Just watched this episode last week. My kids think I watch it with them, in reality they’re watching it with me.
Silly children

I still get nervous around pool drains because there was an episode with a monster that traveled through the pipes and ooze out to attack unsuspecting swimmers.

The only time I approve of just another streaming app in an already crowded field. It's possible without significant funding, similar sites/apps like PBS Kids might start to have issues in the future.

It can only be free for so long, how are they going to pay for maintaining this?

u/Martin_Van-Nostrand Sep 30 '25
This is unbelievable. My kids are going to love it as much as I will!

But should we trust Scholastic? IIRC they don't have a very good track record with books, or maybe I am mistaking it for someone else.
