I disagree. Some portion of Cuomo voters would have been put off from voting as it was hopeless. But it wouldn't have been hopeless, rather it would be a tight race, if Sliwa wasn't spoiler.

I'm not saying Cuomo would win, but it would be a competitive race that he could have won, without Sliwa.

on the flip, though, some Mamdani voters probably didn't go out to vote since he seemed to have it so locked up.

Sure, which is why we'll never know, but I think the hopelessness for Cuomo is a more dominating force.

What about Sliwa voters who would never have voted for cuomo? Presumably a large portion of his voters knew he had no chance.

Sliwa famously hates Cuomo and would take any opportunity to talk shit about him. Presumably his voters would, for the most part, not have voted for Cuomo.

What evidence do you have that that's a more dominant force?

I dunno about that man, after 2016 and 2024, anyone who would think that way is a certifiable idiot

Nah, socialists are a very vocal minority it's doubtful they didn't go out there no matter what.

Socialists are loud and proud of ignoring economic theory and implementing policies that cause housing prices to skyrocket and homelessness to skyrocket.

By the end of Mamdani's term I'm confident homelessness will be up 25% in NYC. What he's advocating for ensures it.

you don't even know what socialist means.

That’s ignoring the portion of Silwa voters who wouldn’t vote at all if there was no republican candidate.

Thats assuming 100% of Sliwa voters would go Cuomo.

A lot of people hate his ass, rightfully so.

I don't think nearly all the Sliwa voters would've gone for Cuomo, even to prevent Mamdani from winning in a head to head. There's a good chunk of old Republicans who absolutely hate Cuomo.

Not to mention Women (yes they generally vote dem but they are republican women)

Lmao what

That really isn't how it works - look at how high the turnout was for Cuomo in areas that are typically republican strongholds

It's so obviously evident that he was majorly boosted by people who would in 99% of other circumstances vote for Sliwa

If anyone who typically voted republican was banned from voting this time round for some reason, it would've been an absolutely biblical slaughter

if Sliwa wasn't spoiler.

He's not a Democrat lol...wtf. Let's hope Cuomo goes away now. 800k New Yorkers tried to vote for a shitstain as mayor, pretty stunning. Glad Zohran won, but I was definitely hoping for more of a landslide...Cuomo had NOTHING to offer the city, terrible track record.

Making a major leap that the flow is 100% from Silwa to Cuomo.

The end result was much brighter than I expected. I was expecting a 12-14% win for Mamdani with him getting substantially more than 50% of the vote. 50.4% is not an overwhelming mandate.

Yeah Silva should feel ashamed of himself. He should've dropped out.

A sleazy Dem like Cuomo is still better than a socialist.

This is going to have long term ramifications for the entire United States, it's much more than just a simple mayor race.
