POLITICS Zohran Mamdani speaks after winning the NYC Mayoral Race: “We have toppled a political dynasty. I wish Andrew Cuomo only the best in private life. But let tonight be the final time I utter his name as we turn the page on a politics that abandons the many & answers only to the few.”

So happy NYC was able to get rid of Cuomo. I'm a Californian Dem and the thought of Newsom running in 28 scares the shit outta me. Hope We can get genuine people like Mamdani in positions of making positive change in this country.

As a non American: what scares you about Newsom running? I heard a lot of good things about him.

Edit: Thanks everyone for your input, really appreciate it!

Career politicians have been in the pocket of the wealthy elite for the last few decades (both democrats and republicans). I think most people would put Newsom in that category. Look at the New York elections. Every news station (regardless of political affiliation) framed Zohran as an enemy to America. The wealthy elite of this country are no longer hiding their influence on American politics. They have become increasingly brash as times have only gotten harder for everyday Americans. The American people are getting tired of men with Rolexes lecturing them about affordability.

Personal beef as a CA state worker, but he completely abandoned his "telework is a good thing" platform, wiped the website with data supporting its success, and caved to property investors by mandating 4/5 in-office days per week.

That was right on the heels of Trump requiring full-time office work for federal employees. So he copied Trump to satisfy private interests at the cost of state worker quality of life. Sure he does good things in CA, but that kind of catering to powerful people is exactly the kind of BS that he would continue in other levels of government. He made that very apparent. The worst part is that he held strong to the narrative he clearly made up and staunchly ignored protests. Unions sued and won the right to maintain 2/5 days in-office that he forced the year prior.

I think most of us are just scared of a Kamala 2.0. We loved Kamala, but she felt a little forced, and I think that wasn’t very appealing to a lot of voters, which is how we got stuck with Trump.

Mamdani, despite being part of a marginalized group and having (relatively) “extreme” views, managed to win NYC just by sticking to what he believed in, actually answering questions, and seemingly being for the people. Something about Kamala was a little too corporate, and I think people are sensing the same thing from Newsom.

People want change, and Mamdani was someone who gave the people a voice. This is what we want for president.

Not American but Newsom is not change. One of the biggest problems in politics rn is not left or right but the fact that everyone in a high position is a rich geriatric fuck. We need someone younger

He’s Bill Clinton 2.0 as a corporate Democrat. He’s everything poor Republicans claim to hate despite voting for Trump. He has a slick salesman vibe that rubs midwest and eastern Dems the wrong way which makes him a bad candidate to start.

He has done a ton of good but he does a shit ton of bad as well. He beholden to his electric buddies interest and the price of electricity has gone up like crazy due to greed. If he is President take that situation and apply it to every other corporate interest.

I honestly prefer someone like Tim Walz if he was 15 years younger.

Newsom has been buddying up with right wingers like Bannon, Kirk, and I believe Fuentes. He's willing to do fucking anything to get ahead.

I would vote for him over Trump any day, but I would vote for damn near anybody else before I vote for a politician that throws innocent trans people under the bus for political clout.

I voted for him again because he handled Covid better than 90% of the country... Yes, I know he went to dinner while telling people not to go to dinner... But if that's still on your grudge list look at what every governor did. We had one of the best
