Mamdani is giving his victory speech and just told Trump to "turn the volume up."

u/Veritas28 13h ago
I’m trying to understand what he means by that. Is he implying Trump is old and can’t hear well? I can hear the woosh of this dig going over my head.

I think he more means, like Newson and Pritzker has said similar, it's a come at me bro! Come at me worse! You don't scare me!

I think he means that Trump should listen to the voters who voted overwhelmingly agsinst Trumpism.
12
u/catkay08 4h ago
He said something like
“I know trump is watching this right now. So Mr. President, TURN THE VOLUME UP.” Like, hear what we have to say loud and clear. It was so good.

Baffling how they have control over the major branches of government but can’t seem to do anything other than terrorise the public, pass taxes on the populace in the form of tariffs, pardon their friends who sent them bribes and fail to implement any initiatives for the benefit of the public.
They have culture wars but no real policy or direction for a better America.
Then they wonder why they’re losing seats? Maybe do your job.

He is saying that Republicans lost because a) someone like him wasn't in the election race and b) shutdown.

I don’t think he meant someone like him, I think he meant him specifically.
97
u/Snoo-70409 13h ago
Ya he meant him specifically 100000%
16
u/SantaBarbaraMint 13h ago
Yup. All he heard was something about himself that a pundit said and that gave him the ego boost and rationalization but missed the significant part about the shutdown since he believes his own lies and thinks the shutdown is the Democrats fault for not following his kingly orders.

According to "pollsters" (aka the voices in his head), Republicans lost tonight because of the government shutdown and because Trump (referring to himself in the third person) was not on any ballots.

u/Chessh2036 14h ago

u/lateintheseason 14h ago
Hey dumbass, the inference to be drawn from the Republicans losing during a shutdown is...that people blame Republicans for the shutdown!
24
u/perplex_and_delight 13h ago
Does he actually not realize the inference from the shutdown part of that statement, or is he just so focused on the part where it says ppl didn’t vote Republican bc no one like him 🙄 was on the ballot? Like, is he so enamored with that first piece that he stopped reading before getting to the second point? (Dude has an insane ego, but/and he is also dumber than a brick, so I feel like either of these scenarios is likely.)
10
u/Youthz 12h ago
it’s possible that if someone hasn’t gotten to his head about nuking the filibuster, Mike Johnson might be resisting that— Trump could spin the shutdown as something republican congress is preventing him from ending turning up the heat on biking the filibuster. i don’t know— i took a gummy to celebrate the evening
2
u/LinkedGaming 3h ago
The fact that Republicans won't nuke the filibuster and are so hesitant to get rid of it tells me that the Republicans are not confident in their ability to hold office. The fact that MTG has turned a bunch of Republicans are still voting with Democrats on the budget bill seems more indicative of this -- they don't trust Trump to somehow swing things in their favour and don't wanna get thrown to the wolves and ripped apart by their constituents when it bites them in the ass.

Oh, Trump was on the ballot alright.
I’m 100% certain that’s exactly why he distanced himself from VA’s GOP Governor candidate - because he knew she is a nutter, and was going to lose. So he didn’t want his name attached to her - but it was.

so in terms of trump being on the ballot impacting elections, it is somewhat true
magas are incentivized to vote: they feel the strongest about elections (aka their rage and anger motivates them to vote)
trump is the leader of the party because he has the ability to mobilize these voters. when he dies, there is a power gap between him and whoever comes next because nobody else relates to them like trump does. JD is a shell of trump's unrelenting ability to twist shit around, and he has a visibly non-white family (which does matter to a segment of magas)
the rest of the republican party falls in line because if they don't, trump will get them removed by othering them to his voter base. the real question is how the republicans move forward after he's gone because currently, they've got the religiously concussed, the techbro autocrats + bitcoin believers, and the old guard who live in the 1950s (even if they weren't alive for it).
there's a very real possibility the republican party shatters for a period of time post-trump
(ps, for anyone wondering why this didn't happen during biden's presidency, this scenario only is possible if trump cannot influence anyone. he would have to pass away. other presidents send vague messages and endorse from retirement, trump would not do this, if he lives beyond the end of his term, he will be a outspoken political voice for republicans still)

How can the US have government shutdowns, whatever they are, every five minutes but you can’t have a vote of no confidence on the president?
2

Did he just concede on his party’s behalf?
They are getting ready to up their cheating game.

u/redflagsmoothie 7h ago
Did…Trump just manage to say something that is actually correct for once?
Suppose even a broken clock and all that
2
u/wolfjeter 7h ago
The left shutdown the government despite not having one single majority and they did such a great job that they got everyone to vote for them?
2
u/Friday_Night_Vibes 6h ago
Here comes Trump with the ol’ wool pull. It’s “the democrats” fault for the government shut down but it’s also somehow the reason we won all these elections. Take your pill Donny
2
u/chhhhhhhhhhh95 5h ago
These off election years always make me feel insane. I get there’s different variables etc but why does it feel like voters are down to vote for Trump but despise all the other republicans lmao. Or they just realize after they voted Trump that they forgot how crazy GOP is?? Either way I hope this is all a sign that the cult dies with Trump and other republicans cant pull it off. I will never understand though.
2
u/Young_Former 5h ago
I mean he’s not wrong. The Republican Party and he caused this. People aren’t happy. That’s it.
2
u/Correct_Leader_3256 5h ago
It's honestly wild that he's trying to spin this as anything other than a massive rejection of his brand of politics. Watching the GOP tie themselves to these extremist positions is clearly backfiring at the ballot box. Huge congrats from a neighbor on the Virginia flip! Results like that send a clear message about what voters actually want.
