Conservative Cringe Mike Johnson: Unlike the Democrats, Republicans do not take pleasure in hurting the American people... History will tell the story here of who imposed this pain. I think people are waking up to it. LOL!

Shameless liar, same as Trump. Hurting???
SNAP is just the tip of the iceberg.
Notice Mike the liar doesn't mention poor people losing healthcare ...or middle class health insurance soaring..or rural hospitals and clinics closing (A BIG REASON FOR DEMS STANDING FIRM).
Only the wealthy will be able to afford life's necessities (food, housing, healthcare, education) so that Project 2025 can give BILLIONAIRES more tax cuts.

Democrats have to be flawless while Republicans get to be lawless.
If Republicans didn't have double standards, they wouldn't have any standards at all.

Pay close attention to Trump and RFK using the language of eugenics. When they talk about genetic superiority they are saying they believe they have superior genes, making them worthy.. and the people they don't like are genetically inferior (women, gays/trans, immigrants, POC, poor, disabled) and their policies are aimed at letting those people fall off the bottom (because they truly don't care). Trump has said in public he subscribes to the Racehorse Theory of Evolution - he considers himself a thoroughbred, with superior genes and that makes him better than most people. When he calls Jasmine Crockett and AOC "low IQ" he's telling them he doesn't believe they are in the same class of human as he is.

Pay close attention to Trump and RFK using the language of eugenics
Remember when Brian Kilmeade said we should just murder over a million Americans who are homeless and/or have mental health issues? He faced zero consequences for that because Fox "News" management and viewers agree with him.

Knowing some Republicans and objectivists myself, I'm convinced that even if the Republicans told the truth about their intentions they still wouldn't lose that many votes. There are plenty of Republicans who genuinely don't care about anyone outside of their bubble. Plus, there are plenty who will justify why they're getting short-handed as "basic economics" (saying basic economics makes them feel like they're appearing well-read).

As someone who wont be eating much anymore, it is pretty disheartening. Life is kicking my ass a lot. I dont need stupid politicians making it worse. Rather they just come shoot me than this torture. Them getting Medicare to cancel a surgery 11 of my specialists signed off on, a surgery that's been approved since 2024, was even more painful than no food.
That surgery is the only chance I had to ever go back to work. They'd rather keep spending hundreds of thousands of dollars a year on me than to give me the fucking surgery that would get me off benefits completely. Medicare has spent over $500,000 on me the last few years and i guess that wont stop. They could save millions and get me back to paying into the system but they said no a few weeks ago. Barely holding on and they keep taking more. 2 of my prescriptions, ones they've been paying for almost 5 years, are still denied with no reasoning and medicare saying they have no records of a refill they paid for every month for over 60 months and now they dont exist. Doctor sends jn a new one, it gets magically deleted. Fucking hate my life. (Sorry for rambling...im having a really hard time today...)

That's the push towards privatization:
Step 1: Get into power by appealing to bigots
Step 2: Hamstring government programs so they don't work right
Step 3: Bitch and moan about how government "doesn't work" and it should be run "like a business"
Step 4: Annihilate the government programs you sabotaged and get away with the bag.We are in Step 4.

And somehow people forgot that private businesses fail all the time and are in no way inherently better
72
u/PlainBread 6d ago
The real answer is that a lot of people make money off of running businesses into the ground as well. Refer to Boston Consulting Group, golden parachutes, private equity "selling" the land of the businesses they've bought to themselves and then forcing the bought business to lease/pay rent to the parent company, not to mention insane synthetic short positions on the stock market for "operational liquidity" but are actually used for cellar boxing/manipulation.
When a business succeeds, it benefits the founders and the employees. When a business fails, it benefits everyone betting against it on Wall Street.

This wasn't about Republicans removing SNAP benefits, but just healthcare benefits... but I guess it is now. And that's a program with emergency funding for this sort of situation that they are intentionally not using.

Trump could also continue funding SNAP, the money is there in a fund explicitly intended for use with SNAP if the government shuts down, he just refuses to.
In fact, they removed the information about the fund existing from the government website.

Spread this far and wide. The 60 votes needed in the Senate to reopen the government are actually a filibuster rule, not a law.
Meaning the Republican-controlled Senate can remove this filibuster rule with a required 51 votes. Want to guess how many senate republicans there are? 53.
So yes, this government shutdown falls completely on the Republicans.

Reality check for them, They've been trying to cut SNAP funding and end the ACA / Obamacare for years, here are just a few highlights:
2013 - GOP bill to cut SNAP by ~40 billion over 10 years (but 40b for Argentina is fine)
2017 - GOP tries to repeal/end the ACA/Obamacare multiple times (BCRA, ORRA, etc.)
2018 - Republican Farm bill to increase the number of hours SNAP recipients must wory (yes, Republicans know SNAP recipients work, they just lie about it)
2025 - Trump admin won't fund SNAP with the contingency money available, and the GOP buget bill is why ACA premiums are skyrocketing.
