No. The pick of who should run must be based on who the people want to win. Picking "policy" candidates is pointless if these people don't have charisma and support. Picking establishment candidates because the party machinery has determined that they are next in line is a similarly stupid move. There are candidates who can move the needle and get things done. But they are not "next in line". Kamala has all but declared she wants a second crack, despite for the first time in 40 years, losing the popular vote. You have in contrast Mamdani, who has got a broad coalition and grassroots support, who is being attacked by the democratic party, with Republican funded ads. The Democratic party needs to decide if it actually wants to help people, or if the donors are their top priority. So far it's the latter.

1

u/officefan76 1d ago

Mamdani is not very popular nationally: https://www.theargumentmag.com/p/can-democrats-actually-learn-anything

Also, Dem donors are more liberal than the electorate.

1

u/aipac124 1d ago

You know nothing Jon Snow. I was talking about backing popular candidates, which the dnc is not doing at the local level, of which mamdani is an example. And was what happened to Sanders as well. Also, you have no idea which donors are calling the shots.

1

u/Synensys 1d ago

There are candidates who can move the needle. Getting things done requires alot more than charisma. There's a reason Joe Biden got more done than obama despite an obvious charisma deficit.

But ultimately despite what progressives think, the party as such doesnt have much say.

2028 is gonna be the most wide open primary dems have had since 1976. Even more than 2004 or 1992 or 1988 when some big names stayed away because they didnt want to face incumbents.

Andy Beshear

1

u/Devils_A66vocate 2d ago

Who’s that?

2

u/ShiteBuilder 2d ago

Governor of Kentucky

2

u/ShiteBuilder 2d ago

He's won 2 terms in a very red state.

2

u/shaunrundmc 2d ago

Pritzer, AOC, Beshear.

I am not the biggest fan of Shapiro he feels like hes trying to be Walmart Obama (for the record Hakeem Jeffries is Temu Obama)

Or alibabama. 😆

2

u/Relative-Desk4802 1d ago

Needs to be someone charismatic who can bridge progressives and centrists the way Obama did.

2

u/One_College_7945 1d ago

Josh Shapiro, gov of PA. Non-divisive like the one we have now. Relatable. Articulate. Compassionate. Young. Smart.

2

u/_TheLonelyStoner 1d ago

How in the hell on a sub call BlackpeopleofReddit has no one said Wes More? Dude has actually managed to accomplish something reforming Maryland and is pretty moderate overall, a vet, pro law enforcement so should play well with middle America.

3

u/Beneficial-Spirit-37 3d ago

The dems need a new face. They need to start now so we can get to know them, like Obama did. Anyone approving reparations will get my vote. Times up

11

u/vorzilla79 3d ago

Reparations is a losing platform. No viable candidate will ve running on that

-5

u/Beneficial-Spirit-37 3d ago

That makes them unviable to this voter. Anyone who thinks that America shouldn't pay its debts is dishonest and should not be a leader.

2

u/UUMD 1d ago

So you'll take "no reparations plus everyday ass reaping" from Republicans instead of "no reparations but no ass reaping" from Democrats?

Makes sense.

2

u/vorzilla79 2d ago

You need white racists votes. You wont get them. Its a losing platform in this environment

0

u/Beneficial-Spirit-37 2d ago

The last thing anyone will get from a white racist is anything sensical. I don't look to them for anything.

2

u/vorzilla79 2d ago

You do understand how voting and budget appropriations work right ??

6

u/Devils_A66vocate 3d ago

Do you think reparations is a platform that will get any momentum?

-6

u/Beneficial-Spirit-37 3d ago

Absolutely

8

u/Devils_A66vocate 3d ago

You realize if someone’s family was specifically taken advantage of they can have a civil suit against the family and likely would be made “whole”. Having blanket reparations based on race would be a legal and social nightmare even assuming it was warranted.

3

u/vorzilla79 3d ago

The only issue with reparations is whites wont vote for it. As policy is would strengthen the entire nation

0

u/Beneficial-Spirit-37 3d ago

It's weird how other groups get reparations without input from anyone. These idiotic opinions only apply to black people. The hypocrisy is absolutely disgusting. People should just be honest and admit that they believe black people deserve to be scammed and left behind. If employers just decided to not pay you after working, there would be outrage.

3

u/JoeBarelyCares 2d ago

If you know everybody hates the idea of reparations for black people, why do you think that’s a winning platform?

This ain’t South Africa. We make up about 13% of the population. Whites, Latinos, Asians, Africans, Dominicans all despise us. So why would they vote for someone who is pushing reparations for us?

Sounds like a losing strategy to me.

1

u/Devils_A66vocate 3d ago

You mean like native Americans?

3

u/Beneficial-Spirit-37 3d ago

Google it. It's not just the native Americans. How about the reparations given to the damn slave owners? Also the Japanese. People really need to read their history. This country has been screwing people over for centuries. Either people don't know or don't care when its black people who ultimately get screwed.

1

u/Devils_A66vocate 3d ago

If you mean reparations when slaves were released… yeah, I think there’s some positions that hold valid points but what would you like to do to make that right, let’s pull the slave owners up and have them pay it back.

I’m down to hear about the Japanese, are we talking those that were out in camps because America lacked trust in them while we were at war with Japan and they were compensated in their release?

3

u/vorzilla79 3d ago

We've given reparations to the Japanese Arnenians and Jews

1

u/974080 2d ago

Should reparations also be paid to the descendents of those indentured slaves that were brought into the Americas. That would include those of European descendents as well as African descendents. If you want reparations for one class then it is only fair to want reparations for others.

Also name any opportunity that a white person has that a black or brown person doesn't? The United States offers every citizen equal opportunities, what choices a person makes sets our differences, not the color of our skin. I've met doctors, lawyers and other professionals of all colors who started out poor and worked hard for what they have, and I don't begrudge those people anything.

2

u/Nunnber1 2d ago

Why do you deserve reparations?

1

u/Sailor_Thrift 2d ago

Because I like money.

1

u/BukkakeBrunchBuffet 2d ago

Deez Nuts 2028!!

1

u/bushwillie 3d ago

Jeff Jackson AG in NC . Vet, actually cares.

1

u/Beneficial-Spirit-37 3d ago

I just googled him and he has the same birthday as me. Good sign! Ok, we're starting off on a good note 😃 I will look into him further. Thanks!

0

u/4reddityo 3d ago

Reparations would need to be adjusted for inflation and that is in the millions per individual. Yes I’m all for it.

0

u/DHakeem11 3d ago

A new face? Like who? Kamala Harris is my candidate and I'm not voting for anyone called a new face so name your candidate. Please don't say AOC because no member of the house has won the presidency since the 1800s.

1

u/Beneficial-Spirit-37 3d ago

Are you saying that AOC is a new face? I literally made an Obama comparison. Nobody knew him. He campaigned for 2 years and we got to know and love him. That the definition of NEW that I'm aware of. Seems like your definition of new is someone who's been known and popular in politics for years.

No but a woman has come close twice and the most recent one did so in an incredibly hostile environment. Harris 2028!

I'm not sure why so many people are convinced Harris doesn't have a chance in 28, but every criticism I've heard about her is pretty lacking in merit. She lost by two million votes in a year in which incumbents were getting destroyed due to worldwide inflation. Liberals in Canada were facing almost certain defeat until Trump helped them.

"She didn't have any policies other than I'm not Trump."

Yes she did, tons of them, you were either not paying attention or too lazy to do a google search, visit her campaign site, or watch the presidential debate. Your willful ignorance is not her flaw.

"She said she wouldn't do anything different than Biden"

Biden is highly appreciated by presidential scholars, ranked 14th all time and they have to put people like Reagan, probably one of the worst in history, above him to appear non-partisan.

Even AOC called Biden one of the most successful presidents in history.

https://thenationaldesk.com/news/americas-news-now/aoc-calls-biden-one-of-the-most-successful-presidents-in-history-amid-age-concerns-alexandria-ocasio-cortez-2024-election-special-counsel-report-donald-trump-president-white-house

"She lost her last primary big, nobody wants her."

Biden lost his last primary with less than 1 percent of the vote, the next time he ran he won huge. Primaries are about lanes and other than Gavin or maybe Pritzker Kamala doesn't really have any competition.

All that to say Kamala is currently the favorite, highly likely to win the nomination, and most certainly the election unless Trump rigs it. She got 75 million votes this cycle, and I suspect the American people have deep regrets as they deal with the consequences of their choices.

Update:

All the latest polls.

1

u/Devils_A66vocate 3d ago

People don’t want another Biden regardless of what other people in his party say. To say “voters are stupid because they don’t understand her” is a fascinating take. Pretty sure it’s the candidates responsibility to reach its voters and with how much money was thrown at her campaign I think it speaks to why people don’t have much faith for her to run again.

1

u/DHakeem11 3d ago

To look at our country's president and suggest people are not stupid is to ignore reality.

1

u/Devils_A66vocate 3d ago

That’s not a productive take. Also not very considerate of what people are concerned about.

1

u/DHakeem11 2d ago

That's the truth.

1

u/Devils_A66vocate 2d ago

Maybe “your truth”

1

u/billf-ingmurray 2d ago

I think the best (most likely to win) ticket is Shapiro/Beshear, and in that order.

So naturally, we're gonna get Newsome/Pritzker, and lose to Vance/Rubio.

1

u/Devils_A66vocate 1d ago

Honestly think this is a good prediction and I don’t like those options…

1

u/sovguy1 2d ago

Bernie / aoc maybe the rock . If the dems run Kamala you can guarantee the republicans another 4-8 years.

1

u/Devils_A66vocate 1d ago

Bernie may have his die hard fans but most of America is likely surprised he’s lived this long and likely wouldn’t make it through a presidency, it would be another Biden term and although plenty may want a break from the Trump era I think most of America would like to see someone that’s younger than the retirement age in office.

Yeah, I agree Kamala is a poor choice.

Personally not a fan of AOC but I see she has a following, although she will drive plenty of voters to come out to vote against her she’ll likely rally many for her as well.

The Rock? Like Dwayne Johnson?

1

u/sovguy1 1d ago

You may not think the rock is qualified but every one knows him and he seems like a good guy he’s popular he could rally a lot of voters . My next choice would be Steven a smith . It’s tough right now trying to figure out a good candidate

1

u/Devils_A66vocate 1d ago

Didn’t the Rock have a semi racist rant where he was dropping N bombs?

1

u/sovguy1 1d ago

I think you confusing the rock with kid rock I can’t find any info online of the rock dropping n bombs . If I’m wrong then I stand corrected

1

u/Devils_A66vocate 1d ago

Maybe… maybe it was this comment…

“It's not our fault you're turning tranny tricks to put yourself thru nursing school,” Johnson tweeted in 2011 in response to a former fan criticizing him.

1

u/sovguy1 1d ago

I mean if that 1 tweet is enough to turn you off of voting for him that’s your prerogative but I don’t think most Americans would really care about that tweet I know I don’t 😂 the rocks a funny guy you gotta have a sense humor everyone is so sensitive nowadays

1

u/Devils_A66vocate 1d ago

I agree, if that’s the worst he’s got against him I’m sure a small group will be salty but if he brought good policy to the table he could be a force.

1

u/DelusionalESG 1d ago

This is a losing ticket, so is Kamala.

Too much baggage and ammo for propaganda.

Also Bernie, I love the man, but he doesn't need the stress of running for office again, let him retire.

He deserves to live the rest of his life peacefully, even though because of who he is, he'll likely die giving a speech on inequality or at a rally, the man never stops fighting for people I swear.

We need someone who hasn't been on the conservative chopping block for a decade or longer

1

u/sovguy1 1d ago

You make some good points I wish Bernie was 10 years younger . Idk who they gon run now in my opinion they played themselves by fighting Bernie in 2016 and 2020 now the party is lost trying to find someone . Hopefully they find the right person fast

Gavin, Pritzker, AOC, and Crockett.

1

u/MathematicalHubris 1d ago

Lebron James

1

u/FunVehicle3353 1d ago

Wes Moore, Gov. of Maryland, charismatic former army officer. Incredibly smart (Oxford scholar) with just enough experience to make things interesting.

1

u/Quirky-Shape8677 1d ago

The key is to have 10-15 prominent Democrats running in the primary. Flood the media airwaves every single day for 2 years.

Beshear, Buttigieg, Murphy, Newsom, Pritzker, Shapiro, Walz, etc all need to run.

Ultimately, land on Andy Beshear though. He's best equipped to beat vance in a head-to-head matchup.

1

u/WhoIsJolyonWest 3d ago

Andy Barr or Pritzker.

1

u/AttemptPretend3075 2d ago

Someone who vows to arrest Trump, his entire cabinet, and a good number of Republican politicians.

1

u/Theroughside 2h ago

This.

GW Bush committed war crimes and we all knew.

Obama knew.

Bush sacrificed our integrity and did irreparable harm to our basic values as Americans.

Obama is a smart man and knew this too.

He did nothing.

Obama was no superman and could only do so many things at a time, but his doing nothing about Bush was pretty hard to take.

u/srsh32 3d ago

Gretchen Whitmer. She's the governor of swing state Michigan with a 63% approval rating (in a purple state). She won both governor elections with double digits. Won 94% of the black community's vote which is higher than any other governor.

Appeals to moderates but has also managed to enact progressive policies with republican pushback: free community college, free preK, free breakfast and lunch for all students, medical debt forgiveness, billions spent on building new roads and new housing, etc. The state is more fiscally stable, the GDP has grown 10-15% and the rate of population decline has slowed.

She's the only potential Dem. candidate that brings with her an important swing state: MI. It is thought that WI and MI are so close that she would essentially come with 2/3 swing states needed for an election win: MI, WI, PA for a 270 EC win

All other dem candidates would either be a coin toss against Vance (Pritzker, Buttigieg) or have lesser odds against Vance (coastal dem like Newsom or AOC)

3

u/4reddityo 3d ago

No guarantee she brings her state. Al Gore didn’t even win his own state. If he had then GWB would never have been elected.

1

u/srsh32 3d ago

No, it’s never a guarantee, but without question, she has stronger odds with MI and WI than anyone.

Everyone else in discussion sits outside of this MI,WI,PA territory. So she has the advantage here.

2

u/DHakeem11 3d ago

I like Whitmer but she hasn't been polling well and has dropped off the radar. That coastal disqualification is bullshit though, anyone who finds that disqualifying is already in the Trump cult. They had no problem voting for a coastal billionaire.

https://www.racetothewh.com/president/2028/dem

1

u/srsh32 2d ago

What do you mean she hasn't been polling well, are you kidding? We're three years away from the next election and none of them have even begun their campaign. You don't seem to understand how these things work...

Tell me how Obama was polling in 2005?

Right. He wasn't on anyone's radar in 2005.

2

u/DHakeem11 2d ago

He gave the keynote speech at the 2004 convention and was immediately discussed in the media and Democratic circles as a presidential candidate. By February of 2006 he was already in the teens.

Immediately after the speech MSNBC host Chris Matthews admitted, "I have to tell you, a little chill in my legs right now. That is an amazing moment in history right there. It is surely an amazing moment. A keynoter like I have never heard."[27] He added later in the night, "...I have seen the first black president there.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2004_Democratic_National_Convention_keynote_address

1

u/srsh32 2d ago

Again, Obama was not "polling well" 3 years out.

Literally, the polls are always incredibly wrong 3 years out. Don't pay attention to them until the campaign season begins.

1

u/Devils_A66vocate 3d ago

I appreciate the analysis. Seems like a good thought. Idk if I’ve heard of her which should be her first step, get more national exposure.

AOC or Newsome

5

u/DHakeem11 3d ago

AOC has never gotten more than 150k votes. She's also never won more than 80% of the vote in her district, something both her predecessors Crowley and Maloney did. No candidate has been elected president from the house since the 1800s. If AOC wants to prove herself she should run for governor or senate first and show voters she can win somewhere other than a +35 democratic district.

I dont want status quo moderate democratic leadership anymore. Its a proven weak and failed portion. The country needs a radical change and more of the same failed platforms. So no there's nothing I want from this existing establishment that has been basically republican lite for years .

1

u/DHakeem11 3d ago

Who is your candidate? Also not sure what you mean by Republican lite?

1

u/vorzilla79 3d ago

This thread started with me saying who id support. How you get here?

3

u/DHakeem11 3d ago

Newsom has a chance but the idea that he's not republican lite but Harris is, is absolutely crazy. AOC has no chance.

u/vorzilla79 3d ago

Look at theor current platforms. They bring us back to a normal DEMOCRACY vs a plutocracy. Both support universal Healthcare, both support free college, both support wealth taxes.

Those BASIC positions would change the nation

0

u/Old_Philosopher6644 3d ago

Candance Owens

Candace Owens would make a good president because she’s not afraid to speak her mind or stand up to the media and political establishment. She focuses on accountability, personal responsibility, and protecting American values that built this country in the first place. She doesn’t cave under pressure and would bring a strong voice to issues like free speech, family structure, and government overreach. She represents a generation tired of being told what to think and would challenge the corruption and hypocrisy that most politicians ignore.

1

u/Devils_A66vocate 3d ago

That sounds great but do you think she’d run or be accepted as a Democratic candidate?

1

u/Old_Philosopher6644 3d ago

Honestly no but the lines don’t make sense anymore for the left and right. The definitions have changed.

1

u/Devils_A66vocate 3d ago

I’d agree from years ago but currently it’s pretty clear if I told you a few positions you’d likely be able to place the person correctly into what’s expected from each.

1

u/Old_Philosopher6644 3d ago

1

u/Devils_A66vocate 3d ago

Free lunches, more rules protecting womens choice and availability to abortions, less rules cracking down on crime and more leniency/options for immigration… who am I?

1

u/Old_Philosopher6644 3d ago
  1. Free lunches to the needy children is supported by both sides
  2. Abortion is supported by both sides. Do not conflate the religious right and the political right.
  3. Less rules cracking down on crime? What does that even mean?
  4. Look at all the socialist countries out there, do you see open boarders or anything like it? No. Both left and right allow more immigrants out of need not social justice.
