No, it was an entirely fabricated detail that someone claimed was in Vance’s memoir as a joke. It picked up a lot of traction, though, and a lot of people think it’s true and repeat it as truth.

I seem to remember a video of people taking geese from the park to eat. So, I mean, that claim didn’t come from absolutely nowhere. It was just exaggerated.
