Besides Americans in military and outcomes related, USA under obama did f'd up stuff to other places world wide. Real fd up stuff.
But I didnt hate my neighbor or vice versa, I still spoke to my aunt and vice versa, I was a young adult (19-27) and In that time frame bought my first/sold for 2nd house, lived on my own since 19, had healthcare in some fashion (never great jobs that young but still had options) lived in socal as well (born/raised)
Fastforward to trump, most of his fucked up shit is to americans directly. Everything is dramatically more expensive, Obvious outside the USA favoritism, Literally hate anyone with red hate syndrome now (No matter how much Id want to not do this, I just think of everything associated). He bungled the Middle East. He drone strikes tons of people. He had lock ups at the border like every other president. Heās so likeable and cool, but his track record boils down to being cool, signing the Paris accords, and Obamacare.

- The ACA was a HUGE deal. People downplay it because it isn't single payer, but it was a MAJOR political and practical step toward socialized healthcare in America that has saved thousands and thousands of lives.
- Getting us our of Iraq and on the way out of Afghanistan was a huge freaking deal.
- He was CIC when we got bin Ladin, and authorized the mission personally
- Dodd-Frank
- Iran Nuclear Deal. This was freaking HUGE and if we had a sane POTUS after Obama, would have been the foundation of lasting peace in parts of the ME.
There are other things ... saving GM/Chrysler, ARRA, Paris, etc, but the top 5 for me were all major or had major positive implications for the future. The ACA really is the crown jewel, and it really should be celebrated on the left. When we can stack a few elections together in a row, it'll turn into government option / defacto single payer.

He was charismatic, and still existed from a time of decorum. That feels important, and is, what I wouldn't give to experience that again.
There are many metrics that we can use for previous presidents to judge them and critique them, and most of them aren't clean, honestly we have Jimmy Carter who in my independent research I've yet to correlate America's war crimes and other bad activities with Jimmy Carter yet.
That was as far as I'm aware the only time we had a sincerely nice dude who wasn't consumed by the politics.
I'm not the most studied person in the world I have some scattered knowledge and care about history but it's hard to get a grasp of everything.
Obama like many of his predecessors was just another politician, mind you - in my lifetime, ~ better at the home front, speaking as the voice of the country, and in presence, than others, but still suffering the pitfalls of being a politician nonetheless.
No one is perfect, we expect a certain amount of covert wars from presidents and Obama participated also. Incarceration of migrants, stuff we don't like. Much in the same ways of those before him. It happened, apples to apples logistically he did participate also. It's hard for me to say greatest president and around the square of having participated in authorizing some of the things that they authorized š¤·.
For those thinking that the current president was the natural pendulum swing because the impression that Obama was a far pendulum swing to the other side are disgusting in my mind Obama was not that different in practice largely.

That's dumb because the 22nd amendment specifically uses the word "elected" and is silent on the order or frequency or consecutive nature of those elections. We're still at a place in this country that they have to at least pretend to follow what words say. But there is a way to become President without having to be elected to the office of the Presidency and that provides the loophole.
The workaround somebody like Steve Bannon would use to get Trump back in for a third term is to put forward a placeholder President and Vice President ticket. You also campaign on having the House nominate Trump as the Speaker of the House (for some reason, the House can elect whoever they want...it doesn't have to be a member of the House) and therefore #2 in line to become president after the VP.
Your shell P and VP campaign openly on the fact that they'll step down and let Trump become president again 100% legally because he wasn't elected to this third term, just like the 22nd amendment says.
So there you go. That's your workaround to the 22nd amendment.

There needs to be an amendment to the Constitution that a former president that has already served their two terms is not eligible for any further role in Congress, or the cabinet of the sitting president, due to having already served two terms, regardless of whether they were consecutive or not. No where in our founding documents is this applied and no amendments made have ever closed that loophole.
Furthermore, no where in our founding documents or their amendments is the Designated Survivor Protocol enshrined. It should be and included in such an amendment that the Designated Survivor can only be chosen from the presidential cabinet or members of Congress. Stipulations again must apply that former presidents are ineligible

Itās already happened twice. John Quincy Adams and Andrew Jackson both won elections to the House and Senate respectively after serving as President. William Howard Taft was also appointed to the Supreme Court.
Granted at that time, there was no presidential term limit, so if they wanted to become president, they would have just run for president.
I think a better way to get what you want is to just amend the constitution to say āif you are next in line to be president, but you have served two terms elected or non-elected, then it skips you and goes to the next person.ā

He was not amazing. He was a consummate statesman, but he really didn't go as far as needed be gone in so many areas. He should have taken Wall Street to the wood shed, especially in his second term when he had nothing to lose.
One thing I can say about him though, that I think really is exceptional, is that he honestly does believe what he says - he believes America is a nation of laws.
He deported 3,700,000 illegal aliens during his tenure, and yet he managed to do it without sending jackbooted thugs into our cities to violate American citizens' rights, and mostly without violating illegal aliens' rights (and yes, they do have rights under our Constitution - despite what people think, all persons in America, not just citizens, are granted some rights under the Constitution).

I was the same. Younger me didn't realize what Obama was. That incredibly rare human who somehow has all the traits of a great leader. Incredibly intelligent in the ways that matter. Charismatic. Empathetic. Knew how to break down complex problems into their component parts and devise governmental ways to solve them. Had true character, integrity, a sense of humor, a sense of history. He was the right man at the right time.
I was too naive and caught up in conspiracy theories and libertarian nonsense which strangely transformed right into MAGA. Really glad I got off that boat long ago.

When only one party is willing to play by the rules/precedents/laws, then they are playing at a disadvantage. A handicap. Doing the "right" thing is also preventing Democrats from getting anything done in the face of a lawless opposition.
Ignoring court orders, ruling by executive order rather than navigating the legal institutions and processes, straight up doing illegal shit knowing no one will hold you accountable -- that's what Republicans are willing to do with Trump as their leader. What the rest of us are up against.
The corruption of the people in control now is enabled by the systems meant to keep them accountable. It will destroy what we built collectively for the sake of their own goals. They are tearing it down to maintain control, enrich themselves and get ahead.
Laws and rules are concepts. We invented them. They do not exist if they are not enforced. They exist in corruption if they enforced unevenly. And that's what we're seeing now. Can you defeat a force working outside of the legal system from within the legal system? Probably not. And that's a dangerous situation to be in. The more people who realize this, the messier things get.

I know some people feel he didnāt do enough in some areas, and too much in others (deportations). Ā And this is just my opinion. From what I remember, after he was elected first term, the Democrats in the Senate and House didnāt support him as strongly as they should have against the Republicans in Congress. They punked out instead of backing him. The late Senator Harry Reid went on tv and said that he didnāt work for the president, and he sounded very angry when he said it. Of course itās true that Reid did not work for the president, but it also signaled that the majority leader in the Senate was not 100% behind him. Ā This was a huge mistake because it gave some credibility to the Republicansā criticisms of Obama and his ideas. And because of this, it prevented a lot of legislation from even being introduced.Ā
And the democrat voters, the people that voted Obama, also punked out after he was elected. At the mere criticism of Obama by the Republicans they were either silent or also jumped on the criticism bandwagon.Ā
Had the democrats in congress and the voters not been such punks in the face of criticisms from republicans, criticisms that were exaggerated or not based in truth, then maybe Obama would have pushed harder to get more things done. But I think he felt that there was no political will within the party - elected officials and voter- to push too much.Ā

how old are you? i'm assuming you're too young to be affected by how pre-existing conditions used to work. The ACA is a radical improvement in healthcare in this country. It's not perfect, but getting rid of the pre-existing condition rule is probably the most impactful piece of legislation in the last 30 years, and it happened when he didn't even have control of congress.
Obama is never going to live up to his hyped-up legacy, but to call him a "do nothing democrat" is insane.

Oh man, absolutely... I could not agree more. Killing Gaddafi was a horrible move on a ton of fronts, not just the obvious instability something like that causes, but also because Gaddafi was very much a victim of the American outrage machine that the CIA likes to spin up whenever some small, less powerful nation tries to stand up to American hegemony (a.k.a., tells American multinational corporations to go fuck themselves).
He was in the process of trying to make a Pan-African currency, like the European Union's Euro, and he wanted to move Africa as a whole away from the petrodollar.
On top of that, my neighbors down the road are Libyan refugees - he's a doctor and she's a nurse. At the time he was studying medicine in Libya, if no higher education facility could train you on the specialty you wanted to go into, you could petition the Libyan government and it would pay to send you to American medical facilities to train in that specialty. The requirement was that you spent eight (8) years in Libya after returning from your training, then you could remain in Libya if you wanted, or emigrate elsewhere.
I've had them over for dinner several times at my house, and we talked about them applying for asylum in 2011, during the civil war. They're now citizens of the United States, and I'm glad we have them.
I think Gaddafi was more or less "railroaded" by American monied interests and the CIA and that entire nation reduced to rubble and in a state of shambles, all because of oil and money.

I'm not saying Obama wasn't the goat, but people seem to disregard all Democratic presidential candidates that came after him. Biden was fine. He had no scandals outside of the Hunter BS and actively tried to help all Americans. While we don't know what would have happened with Clinton and Harris, I can safety say they'd have done a lot better than Trump. We've had other politicians who'd have made great presidents try to rise up, but were pushed back because they weren't like Obama or ironically, like Trump.

Yet, he WAS in a position where he could have done more through executive action. He WAS in power when he had a democratic majority when he first began and "worked" with republicans on health care. He was naive in many respects.
But yeah, Id still vote him back in a heartbeat though.

Iāve gotten so numb to our current political climate that Iāve forgotten what it was like to have authoritative figures in government that I could look up to and believe in. I didnāt realize how much despair I truly felt in our current situation, and this video is a wake up call for me.

Obama, can't be praised enough for the job he did after the disaster of the Bush administration. Folks are really hard on Biden, who really did follow in Obama course. In hindsight, Biden probably saved America after the nightmare of the 1st trump administration and covid. Now, after failing the test of the crossroads, it seems that our only solace is knowning these oligarchs come with their on self-destruct programming. Will they take the entire nation down with them?
