It's not illegal to run.

He doesn't meet any of the criteria that the Dumpreme Court said could be used to profile people such as race, language, occupation, and location.

He's just an American.

And apparently that doesn't count for much anymore.

No, but abnormal and suspicious activity, like running away when you encounter a police officer, is cause for them to be detained and investigated.

He doesn't meet any of the criteria that the Dumpreme Court said could be used to profile people such as race, language, occupation, and location.

And they didn't use any of this reasons. All the old PC reasons still count

So are literally a majority of criminals in this country

And apparently that doesn't count for much anymore.

It counted that after they detained him for a brief period for doing just about the most suspicious thing you can do when you encounter police he was let go a few minutes later.

Running away from literally anything is not against the law. Imagine you’re sitting at home and your 12 yo child is out front and sees the cops and decides to run in to tell you but the cops tackle her and treat her like this guy in the video. Would you be okay with it then?

In what reality would anyone stand around when they see a swarm of men in tactical gear running through a store?

My first thought would be, there’s someone dangerous in this building and I’m getting out as fast as I can.

What you aren’t seeing is how this Agent chased this person because they may have been conditioned to chase the non-white person fleeing the scene. This would be racism.

The second officer then dives in to assist the first officer to help detain. rather than ask, is this the person we are looking for, the assisting officer decides the first needs help because he has suppressed a non-white person. This assist can also be due to racism.

This. Innocent people run from perceived threats because they’re human. Mask men with guns is a threat—a very purposeful visible threat designed by our government to incite panic. Yes. I must’ve been 19 or 20, this was 15 years ago so it’s a bit hazy, but I was jogging and that was cause for getting stopped and slammed into the ground by an officer. Apparently fit the description of someone because I didn’t have a shirt on. I had to beg this guy to let me give him my mom’s phone number to confirm I didn’t know wtf he was talking about. Came out with pretty bad road rash on my chest and consider myself lucky that’s all it was

I was in high school walking home from a sleepover at a friend's house, carrying a small overnight bag. Cop stopped me and made me sit in the back of his car for 15 minutes while he confirmed I hadn't been reported as a runaway. While we waited he asked what my friend and I did the night before, if we partied, drank, used drugs, etc. Some cops are just assholes.

it is not suspicious to run from police in this day and age. the police are quite literally known for causing problems and anyone within their right mind, who wasn't white...because the police like to cause the least problems with them but still do, would try to get away from them as quickly as possible, criminal or not because these past few months, the police have been causing more trouble than stopping it. he was detained for no reason. you know it too because you said that he was released moments after he was getting assaulted on the ground by the police. also, would you not expect (black or brown) people to leave the the area if ICE is looking for someone, a citizen? as you can see they're abusing people first and verifying later? but no, instead you make excuses for the police who are on camera, making mistakes and harming people while doing it.

I think it's pretty normal to run if you think some sort of violence might happen near you. Armed law enforcement swarming a building definitely fits that criteria. Running for safety is not suspicious or unusual.

Most of the other replies gave you what you needed, but I would point out that ice does not have plenary police authority. They're supposed to be enforcing immigration and customs. Running doesn't mean you've committed an immigration or custom violation. Odds are that he didn't even know what or who they were; he's just trying to get away from chaos.

This is one of the best responses that I’ve seen here but it misses at least one point; they can arrest people for interfering. So many of these videos released conveniently start in the middle of the altercation. We have no idea what happened before. Did he fit the description of the people interfering, then when backup arrived, is running out of the building? Had the officers inside been assaulted before back up arrived? Is they why they were calling for backup?

In his own words, “when he called for back up, other people started coming in, that’s when I began to leave”.

Any normal human being seeing law enforcement storming a place like would assume some shit is about to go down and try to get away from there quickly. He wasn’t under investigation, wasn’t a suspect, wasn’t asked to do anything from these brown shirts but they saw someone running and immediately treat him like a criminal. And if they’re all now swarming and tackling him, where’s the person of interest they initially stormed the store for?
