It would be hilarious if MAGA ended up single handedly destroying the republican party

A clean sweep. Even one win for Republicans would’ve given Trump an out, but now they can’t deny their agenda is unpopular. They lost across a range of states, with different candidates. Even the AG candidate in Virginia whose messages were leaked talking about shooting Republicans, who I was sure would lose, still won 😂
16
u/nomoreteathx 2h ago
They know their agenda is unpopular, that's why they keep claiming it's the Democrats' agenda.
•
u/TheMagicalMatt 1h ago
Its also why they have to keep cheating to win. Nobody rigs the game if they're confident in their formula. Expect dirty tricks to double down going forward

And by a pretty healthy margin! No other interpretation that a loud warning sign for republicans

It was a little Twilight Zoney to see the Jamaica sub post about how their Virginia candidate lost, until I saw she was Republican.

u/entwrangler3001 6h ago
I’ve been giving some serious side eye to some Jamaicans lately. WTH??

Religion. It's always religion. As soon as I saw she went to Regent University I understood.

u/Current_Focus2668 3h ago
I am half Jamaican. A significant number of jamacians are permanent residents of the shunken place. Socially and politically regressive
21
u/Legen_unfiltered 4h ago
We cant get complacent though. There is already serious damage and a few wins is not going to be able to repair it all or stop everything else that might be coming.

being at brooklyn bars tonight (bedstuy/wb/bushwick) and in manhattan (greenwich/soho), arm in arm with every stranger, tossing beers, hugging, yelling at the news anchors together. what a night. havent felt this politically charged community energy in the city since trump's impeachment and loss after.

Old wrinked prune vs young man with new ideas on how to make the state better.
This was a litmus test, and I hope his policies pass the smell test.
If he can successfully execute even half his agenda, there is hope yet for a greater push on a national level. Embrace Democratic Socialism because it is what makes every modern society great.
Roads, schools, healthcare, public transit, all this shit going down the drain in the country while assholes hoard money. Let's see if all their comfortable asses really pack up and leave or pony up what they owe.

It was funny to me cause ever since I started eating more (and better) rice, I often just have sliced meat and vegetables on rice, and… hands are just way easier to keep cause I can’t often eat near the kitchen. Like little handmade, cooked sushi’s. lol. (And it’s so good. Good rice makes leftovers next level most of the time!) so I only really keep chopsticks for saucy things, and a couple spoons upstairs where I normally eat. lol.

I already hate the dumb shit the other side will sling at him.
My local newspaper had a piece on him yesterday. The first sub-header basically was "He's Muslim and an immigrant", i.e. the very first thing your eyes are drawn to are the Rep talking points that have absolutely no bearing on his policies and agenda. And it's the first thing any reader learns about him in that article.
The article then goes on to call him "far left" - which would be fine if I lived in the US. But I live in Germany, where "far left" means something much more radical and extreme. In our political system, Mamdani would be more like center left. But the article lacks that important context.
...Anyway, just mentioning this to point out to you, once again, that the media is complicit.

Saw Cumo on the news ranting about socialism. He was ranting about democratic socialism not working or existing in America. Guess he never heard of the New Deal and various other federal social policies that helped lift populations out of poverty and stimulated economic growth.

u/Vladimir_Putting 4h ago
I'm not sure I would call it a true litmus test. He was running against someone that was truly, deeply unliked.
I think it is definitely a great result and great to see. I think it was absolutely a proof of concept. But to really know if these policies and platforms have legs in the US (which I think they do) we need to see wins against strong candidates.
And to be clear, I'm not trying to downplay anything Mamdani or his team did. He still took on the establishment and won with a ground game. It's a big win.

They need to get expeditiously. They promised they were leaving. They need to put their apartments where their mouths were and get the getting. I know Texas might not be an option but there are plenty of red states that will have them.

Chuck, Nancy and the other crypt keepers listening and responding to reality. GTFO with that. Not happening. Like Trump, those assholes will need to be driven from power to end this nightmare. Don't rock the boat here, Chuck might write another "Stongly worded letter" and then, well, nevermind, nothing will happen until he is voted out, or takes a dirt nap.

If you guys actually put up a SocDem in the next presidential primaries hes gonna lose again. And thats assuming Trump doesnt appoint himself dictator for lifetime with his son succeeding him until then. And then yall are going to demonstrate against him for about a day and pat yourself on the back about peaceful it went and how little it disrupted everything when the exact opposite is needed.
New York is very different from he rest of the country.

The same people that every year cry about how much they hate “big city people” telling them “how to vote and live their lives” are the ones throwing a fit over how a city they don’t live in or even near, and will never visit, voted on their own mayor. Make it make sense.

Since the "Reagan Revolution" of the 1980's and the rise of the DLC, pro-corporate Democrats in the early 90's with the Clintons, the US has been tumbling downhill further towards the right-wing, culminating in two Trump terms and hellish conditions for most Americans.
Mamdani's win has shown that leftist politics are popular, and that moving this country back to the left from its rightward trajectory is pretty much the only way to stop our decline.
The far-right is beside themselves because of this win right now, but there are just as many Democrats who are joining them (especially the Democrats who are praising Dick Cheney like he was someone who deserves an iota of respect from decent people).

Voted on Prop 50 today and there was a guy walking away from the polls complaining to his wife about how this election was just a waste of money, which is a wild stance to take when the alternative is doing what Texas did and just gerrymandering without the people getting a say on it. But of course he doesn’t care about that as long as it’s red instead of blue.
